Title: I created MyAltCoins to track all your cryptocurrency assets
Post by: lucacri on December 14, 2013, 09:51:30 PM
Hi guys,

In the last few days i created MyAltCoins.com because I was fed up with clumsy excel spreadsheets to track all my different altcoin investments.
The idea is simple: after you signup, you can add all the transactions you executed (transfer from any currency to any other currency, mining profits or expenses/spent coins). The system then will calculate your current assets value, and give you nice info about the good investments etc
It's still in its infancy and I'd like to add features as we go along, mostly with input from you guys. It is, and it will always be, totally free
What do you think?

I posted it on reddit yesterday and i received great feedback. Do you want to give it a try and tell me what you'd like to see in it?

You can find Tickets and ColossusCoins at CRYPTSY.COM Exchange.
For the NXT you can find then at DGEX.COM exchange.
For emunie not sure actually, need to figure it out...

Thanks a lot mate !!!
Great job what you have done.

Great work, thank you!
Just an idea: Maybe for the source currency you could add the possiblity to chose between quantity and rate when entering new exchanges.
On the most exchange sites they provide you just with the rate, so that I currently have to calculate the quantity for the source manually first before being able to enter it.

Awesome was looking for something like this! Can you add graphs to each altcoin transaction? As well as percentage gains/losses etc.

Also, can you add Lottocoin (LOT) as well since I am shamelessly promoting it? :) It may be too new to get a exchange rate though.

I will be adding graphs soon, as soon as i figure out what data should be shown

Regarding Lottocoin, do you know of any exchange with an API that has it?

What does it mean to create a transaction? I just wanna submit my coins and see the btc value. Any way to do this without those 'transactions' ?

You enter your previously completed transactions there in order to have the data on the site so that it can show you graphs and changes in value.

As I mentioned before, it would be good to be optionally able to enter the exchange rate instead of the quantity for the source of a transaction as this is what you get from your transaction history on the various marketplaces usually.

Also it would be nice if you would have some copy/paste functions for the bigger marketplaces. E.g. if I go to my transaction history on Vircurex, it would be cool to just copy the table from there and paste it to your site and it picks out the transactions automatically from that data.
If you could offer this for a few of the bigger marketplaces, this would be very convenient.

ok i see. Put all my coins in there. Really nice BUT:

The exchange rates are outdates? Does it take the latest or 24hr average?

Anyway, looks nice, really useful, would donate if everything would be updated in realtime :)

The idea is that you either bought the coins at a specific price from another currency (ex: you bought 2 btc with 1200 USD), or you mined them (so they were "free")

If you mined them, add how many bitcoins you have in the Transactions -> create new -> mining section
If you bought them, create a transaction with the correct values in the Transactions -> create new -> exchange and the system will keep track of your current value AND how of much you are profiting/losing

I just pushed the first of a big list of auto-importers (Cryptsy). I will then try mtgox since i have some transactions there, and finally Vircurex

Stay tuned!

The prices are updated every 5 minutes. Doing realtime would be a mess (and pointless beside in a day like today... grrr china!)

This is great! I'd love the possibility to add my non-traded cryptocurrency balances, though. Maybe add an "Other" option on the list that triggers the appearance of a textfiled where you can write anything.

Currency    Amount           Current      BTC Value Current Exchange    Avg rate             Profit    Profit %
Bitcoin    0.0002603 BTC    0 BTC    1 BTC = 650 USD    1 BTC = -0.0117346 BTC    0.022 BTC    -100 %

shouldnt "current" be at the "amount" too?

Very nice but something is wrong with the balance - but not the website's error.

Will have to reconcile to make sure what is transferred is correct.

Sooo much better than updating the excel pivot table.  ;D

Great site but I did find an issue I was trying to setup my mined Freicoin and I get the following error:

Argh!
The qta to must be a number.

I did find that what the issue was (Between Chair and Keyboard I did what I tell my users not to do) that when I copied it from my wallet it had some extra white space and it caused the error. When I did it again with out the extra space it worked fine. Might want to add a trim() or preg to remove extra spaces on the Quantity field.

Other then that thanks for a great site makes it really easy to track your coins with a quick glance.

I don;t know if i can, honestly. I'm using Laravel 4 and if i set the validator as numeric, it won't accept spaces. I could get rid of the validator, but that's not that fun.. Lemme see what i can do

The problem is that you have to keep it updated, and you can only work/deal with Cryptsy's currencies and rates.

Columns are sortable. Color coded rows, self settable. This could be used to signify 'done' with that coin mining etc, or green for trade on etc.

This website is brilliant! I had half of the same exact idea written in a java app a week ago. Request all functional was populating the tables then got busy irl. Got tired being unable to keep up in cryptsy.

Your webapp basically does everything I wanted and more. Making it a webapp was also brilliant.

Scraps I guess.

Wow What a great improvements!
It was too much work for me to add all my transactions one by one, therefore i didn't use it anymore.
With the import functions it has become very user friendly  :D Thank you also for adding IFC :)

Only now I have imported all the trades from cryptsy, there seems to be a discrepancy between the dashboard on myaltcoins and the dashboard on cryptsy. Therefore I wanted to try to import again, only deleting them one by one is much work :P. Maybe create one key to start all over new :-)

Was able to identify why the balances were incorrect:

From  cryptsy, some of the sells were transferred as buys.

Easy to fix, however, and myaltcoins.com is still preferred over spreadsheets - thanks!

When I import from BTC-E via the API, fees won't be subtracted from the coins I bought. For example I bought 2 LTC, with fees it would become 1.996 LTC but when imported to MyAltCoins it shows 2LTC, I don't think this is correct or am I wrong?

Also I got a negative number of bitcoins showing. Trying to explain it; I bought some altcoins and EUR for a total of 0.5 BTC with my total BTC(for example 0.6 BTC), this puts me in -0.5.
So shouldn't it be showing 0.1BTC(this is what's over from my buyings) and the rest (0.5BTC) spread over the altcoins and EUR?.

Greetings Robin.

Added NXT coin! For the moment we don’t have any way to get the current exchange rate from Dgex, but i’m working on it

I think it should be fixed now, give it a try (specially using the API because it's less finicky)

Going to add the automated exchange rate as soon as they are back online

The import via API  didn't work (tried a few times) - so I opened a new account to start over.
Subsequent API imports are perfect and all balances are spot on!

Should I PM you the original account info to delete?

Should I PM you the original account info to delete?

Yes, that'd be nice! Thank you

Ya know what would be cool, if we could add ALL of our coins. Including all the dead, not traded, etc coins. That way when they do get on exchanges... chaching! Surprise! the next login is happy times  ;D..

Also it would be a great place to track everything, worth something or worthless.

The problem is that i kind of don't want to let everyone add coins because I'm sure there will be a lot of trolls/mispelling/swear words instead of curated data. I might add a page where people can suggest a new coin to add, and i'll manually review it. Sounds good?

Please could you add Coinex.pw as an exchange? It's a great exchange and mining pool community with support for many coins, which is quickly growing. It's sort of an all in house system, you can mine and exchange coins all from one account on one website - the only thing it lacks is some kind of history tool to keep tabs, and myaltcoins.com looks like it can ace that :) I know Coinex.pw have an API system in place but I don't know about compatibility, etc...
That would be brilliant and really handy if you could do that :)

I currently use cryptofolio.info but I am not happy because I cannot choose the exchange from which the value is pulled.
Can I specify an exchange on myaltcoins.com or is it fixed? I don't want the highest or best, I want to be able to choose for example BTC value from btc-e, LTC value from Cryptsy, etc.
Thanks

My compliments!

I had one week vacation; one week no coins in my head  ;D
Just deleted all the transactions with your new key and imported all transactions again. Now there is no discrepancy anymore between cryptsy and myaltcoins. My balances seems correct :) (except for a negative cryptsy points balance, but that is not important for me).

At the moment I do not really understand the graphs yet but that can be me I think :P. Because I have a lot of different alt coins I can not see which line belongs to which coin. Is there a way that I can select one alt coin and see only the graph of that alt coin? All the graphs through each other looks complicated. Or is that feature already possible?

Thank you again and a happy new year!

Lucacri,
I don't know if you already read my tweet so I repeat it here.
I asked you for GLB, you added it, thank you so much, but ...
I think there is a small bug: if I create a new transaction (mining) with GLB, then I can't see anymore the charts (chart area is there, the curves of all coins aren't there !). If I delete the GLB mining transaction everything is fine again.
Congratulation for giving us this useful service.

Your work is much appreciated, but had an idea if you have a Cryptsy account?

Might be easier for some to transfer "donations" via cryptsy trade keys - fast, and no fees, too.

Quote
Your trade key allows other Cryptsy users to send you funds for any available currency type. User to User transfers are free and require no waiting for confirmations. Trade keys are receive only addresses and thus you may give this key to anyone you wish.

The problem with cryptsy is that i wouldn't know who sent me the donation.
as of now i installed bitcoind and litecoind on a dedicated server and created one receiving address for each user..

ABSOLUTELY incredible tool you got there. Thanks so much.
.01 BTC Donation Just Sent.

Questions:
- In MyAltCoins I entered the dollars that I used to buy the BTC with. Now those dollars have their own history and are red. Why? (Perhaps I did something wrong as the dollars (in red) show -1000% and perhaps that is throwing things off.)
-The BTC's I bought with those dollars were bought on average (I used average price) of $150 or so, but under BTC it shows a profit of 135% (should be over 500%, perhaps the USD above is causing it?).

Requests:
-Can you separate our Bitcoin profits/loss from other alt coin profits/loss? (Still have the two connected as now, as we usually by alts with those same BTC.)
-On the Dashboard page, can the colors of the coins listed below (they are all black) match the colors on the exchange rate graph?
-Export/Save - That way we can play with importing date from exchanges and not losing all our data for not.
-Print function or format - Paper Copy, just in case.

Again, thanks for this, will tell others, beautiful site. BEST in this regards.

Its about sharing

That's normal behavior. The idea is that you spent X amount of dollars, therefore you are at the moment "in the red" of dollars. Whenever you sell your coins, you'll see that your USD will raise, hopefully to a positive value. It happens with every currency. If you think it's less confusing, i could remove the currencies that are in the red from the list. What do you think?

-The BTC's I bought with those dollars were bought on average (I used average price) of $150 or so, but under BTC it shows a profit of 135% (should be over 500%, perhaps the USD above is causing it?).
That's not right, but check the calculated "avg purchase price" from the BTC page. Remember that it considers also other purchases (ex: sold LTCs to buy BTCs). if that doens't make sense, PM me your username and i'll look at it

Requests:
-Can you separate our Bitcoin profits/loss from other alt coin profits/loss? (Still have the two connected as now, as we usually by alts with those same BTC.)
I don't think i understand your request, can you explain it in other words?

The slowdown is because of the graph chart in the dashboard. I do not like it and i will change it soon to something better/nicer

Any exchange for I0C and Ripple with api?

I am not sure which is better. Perhaps see what the community says. If it isn't a problem, perhaps just have a button that gives us a choice?

Requests:
-Can you separate our Bitcoin profits/loss from other alt coin profits/loss? (Still have the two connected as now, as we usually by alts with those same BTC.)
I don't think i understand your request, can you explain it in other words?

When I first signed up to your site, I just tracked my alt coins. The percentage given (overall) was nice as it was easy to compare the alt coin profit/loss to my already known Bitcoin profit/loss. Then I thought to add my bitcoins to your tracking page. Now it averages both together and that distorts what my alt coins have done in relation to my bitcoins. Does that make sense?
Perhaps I have it wrong, but doesn't the page average all the crypto's together, or just the alts and BTC is not included?

You are developing a tool that I can see growing huge. It is nice that you are listening to the users as it will just grow faster for all of us then.

Thanks for the quick reply and help,
IAS

With due respect lucari, i am no expert but this sounds like it can be a very dangerous feature.
Easy man in the middle, hack, etc. - Can change addreses and then divert funds if they are used like that.
The accounts have trade dates and a hacker would just need to monitor activity and plan accordingly.

That is true, but all the site is running on SSL certificates, which will preclude man in the middle attacks. Hacks are always an option, even if i did my very best to use my 15+ years of web developing and sysadmin experience to secure the servers as much as possible. What would make you feel more secure? I can always add it.

Hey Lucacri,

Would it be tough on the dashboard to have the "Current Exchange" column have the same currency fields listed as "Avg purchase rate" column?
Basically it would allow us to see the current rate of the coin in USD and be able to compare that to the "Avg purchase rate" field.

What do you think?

Thanks,
IAS

ps - It is nice how you can click on one of your holdings and get further info, like the profit/loss in USD.

When attempting to import CSV from Coinbase I get:
Error in exception handler.

Also, after adding all of my APIs and receive addresses my overal portfolio balance is nearly twice as much as I actually have.  Before I remove it all and start going through each transaction to find the problems do you have any ideas?  Are there best practices that should be adhered to such as if I have a Cryptsy API should I not also enter the receive address I use for Cryptsy?  Could that be doubling up some transactions?

I did notice that when I add the Cryptsy API that it shows a BTC balance that doesn't exist on Cryptsy.  My current Cryptsy BTC balance is 0 however MyAltCoins shows 2.4872278.

It would also be helpful to me if I could see a summary of coin balances per address which uses the friendly name that I give to the address.

Great work so far.

Thanks!

DISCLAIMER: I just started using the service so the issues above could very well be a PEBKAC issue.

The idea is that you should use the BlockChain API only for a mining address that is not covered by the other APIs (example: don't use it if you are sending your mined coins automatically to Cryptsy, but use Cryptsy instead)

First thing i'd do is delete all the transactions and import one API at a time to see which one is being a dick, and then tell me :)

I did notice that when I add the Cryptsy API that it shows a BTC balance that doesn't exist on Cryptsy.  My current Cryptsy BTC balance is 0 however MyAltCoins shows 2.4872278.
That could be because you are missing some other transactions, like where you spent the 2.48 BTCs (by spent I mean bought other cryptos OR spent/donated)

It would also be helpful to me if I could see a summary of coin balances per address which uses the friendly name that I give to the address.
The system is more intended to be a good view on what you totally hold, and how much you are profiting. I don't store any info about addresses (in most cases i don't even have them from the APIs anyway)

How is this safe regarding cryptsy api or with any api that has access to make transactions? We post public & private keypair. Api allows buys & sells.

The issues seems to be that the Cryptsy API isn't accounting for withdrawals or deposits.  I guess we have to enter those manually?

Any idea why I get the error I mentioned above when attempting to import the Coinbase CSV?

How is this safe regarding cryptsy api or with any api that has access to make transactions? We post public & private keypair. Api allows buys & sells.
If you want to feel more secure, disable the ability to make transactions in the apis that allow it. Anyway, you can easily find who I am... And i'm not here to run away with anyone's cryptos :D

Well the problem is not that simple as trusting you or not. I'm not questioning the trustworthiness of you. Sadly, cryptsy doesn't have a setting to customize the api access.

Yes you should. What's the error with coinbase? Maybe send me via PM a pastebin with the coinbase selection you are using

Regarding the cryptsy api, yes, i understand you. Cryptsy doesn't let you choose permissions unfortunately. I can tell you tho that the server is secure, the site runs on https, and that more than 200 users (i think) use the cryptsy api import daily..

Whatever makes you feel good at night, my friend :)

on an unrelated note, I just finished making a massive change in the calculation of profits/ROIs etc. Check if you see huge discrepancies or stupid numbers..

Hi Lucacri,

I can't find a valid average purchase price anymore.
Under "average purchase rate" on the Dashboard I see very high figures. e.g. 1NMC=3.3BTC. They are all in whole numbers and should be in fractions.
I see that across the board. Even if I click on the coin name, it is not on the detailed screen.

Still loving the site, but can you have a look please?

so just to be clear , users are just stating what they have and have traded - with options of import from various exchanges or manually ?

if so - I like it, the crypto space needs this.

happy to promote this with Quark, our user base would use something like this .

Hey digitalindustry, yeah, pretty much as you stated. And I use it to track my Quarks!
It is pretty incredible and the bugs seem worked out from my experience.
If you import data (I don't) just make sure to use an API that doesn't allow modifying data, except for reads, into your account. For security reasons of course.
I like adding things manually but am not a big trader.

Congratulations on meeting my needs of a portfolio with automatic data entry. The Cryptsy copy/paste and API import methods worked flawlessly! This is the most user-friendly portfolio that I've found so far! Keep it coming, I'll definitely be donating. Although, I would be willing to pay a small subscription in cryptocoins to keep the site functioning smoothly, just so you know.

Also, I would love to see these features implemented, and would be willing to contribute!

Import Deposits and Withdrawals;
Export all data;
Profit/Loss for each transaction;
LIFO and FIFO purchase rates;
A single graph of each coin value in BTC or USD over time;
MyAltCoin.com API.

Keep up the good work!

Is it safe to provide these API keys? What can the developer of this do with it?

The Cryptsy API is generally used to grab data from the markets, or from your personal account. This data is in the JSON format, and should be parsed using a script, so it's not really meant to be human readable just by pasting the URL in a browser.

It is not safe to leave your API keys in anyone else's hands for very long. A developer can use these keys to make orders, cancel orders, and even withdrawal coins to pre-approved addresses. So in theory, your coins could be maliciously stolen/traded if you have any pre-approved coin addresses, or by trading all the coins for cheap prices in small markets where the thief has placed coordinating orders on another account.

Personally, I do not think this developer would do such a thing. But, you should assume that this site will hacked eventually, and when it does, expect everything I explained above to happen.

Here's an easy solution to prevent this from happening while still using this useful site: Do not leave your Cryptsy API enabled when you aren't using it. I enable mine from the Cryptsy>Settings whenever I am using the Import function on MyAltCoins, and then I disable it once I'm done. If you feel like taking an extra precaution, generate a new API key after every time you use your keys on any site.

Can anyone confirm this? I've changed my API keys now. Only the iOS app 'Coin Ticker' has it now.

But, if a developer really can make trades with it, I might disable using API's.

Don007, nommot is right about the security of the Api Keys. I leave mine on MyAltCoins since i trust the security of the servers. Many people trust me with their keys, and as i said multiple times, I will never use their api keys for personal gain. My name is easy to find from my username, and I stand behind MyAltCoins.

Of course I totally agree (and encourage) being a bit paranoid about your crypto assets.

Unfortunately, Mintpal has no private api yet (it's in beta for now), and poloniex doesn't offer an api call to get all your orders, but instead they require you to make a request per each pair of currencies (so, for now, something like 50+ requests to see all your orders).
I'll find out about the other exchanges ;-)

That's quite a bump you've got over there.

I've stopped using MyAltCoins quite short after I started using it, as it was not working that correctly at that time. It did work well for a time, but especially the synch / imports with exchanges like Cryptsy caused trouble for me. I searched for alternatives and found the 'Coin Ticker' app for IOS. I still use that one weekly and it's still working great. For the people who are experiencing problems with MyAltCoins, try to find that (or a similar) app.  And before people start complaining, no, I don't have a stake in this app. I just use it, and that's it.

Shame the site is gone - it was a keeper and I sure could use it right now.

Not as nice, but simpler and quite helpful keeping track.

Semms like it misses some quite popular and high market cap coins like TIME.
Really looking for a good site that does what Blockfolio does on mobile.
