Title: Associate identity to Bitcoin Address
Post by: xenoky on December 16, 2013, 11:29:39 AM
Hi,

in blockchain.info, some known bitcoin address are tagged (like satoshi dice or lucky bit)
I thought was only public address but i see also private person could associate their name to the address (eg. https://blockchain.info/it/address/15qSxP1SQcUX3o4nhkfdbgyoWEFMomJ4rZ)

How to do that?

I think that could be usefull in some situation where senders want to be easily recognized by receiver

Not sure how knowledge of compromised private keys would protect the community

i am not sure to understand what you are saying.

I think identity could be "attached" to public key without comprimising anything

I think it's a feature of blockchain.info's wallet.

So to know that method will not help the Bitcoin community to resist to attacks.

I think it's a feature of blockchain.info's wallet.

Thanks,
i thought that was a "distributed feature" (like bitcoin itself) not linked to a particular site, that would have been interesting.

I noticed a while back that putting an address in your signature would tag the address on blockchain.info. I don't know if they still do that.

The next question is if this is a good idea at all. Once one of your addresses is connected to your persona you are easily tainting all you transactions, past, present and future.

Its on the cards for implementation some time in the future, search for "sacrificial passports" for more info (coins are "sacrificed" as a proof of ID). It could be a long time coming as the whole concept of using addresses is being worked on to make it simpler to associate a name, email, site, etc. with funds, addresses will still be usable but far more convenient methods should emerge.

Thanks for the info,

i read about "sacrificial passports" and i think i will wait "consumer version" of it because i am not following the technical concept

If you use this address only on blockchain.info, and you have different account or Bitcoin client for other transactions then it doesnt matter.

If you use on webpages or forum signature Bitcoin address for donations, you obviously are trackable anyway, so why not label this Bitcoin address on blockchain.info

https://blockchain.info/tags
You can label your own address, or tag any other addresses found on the web.
