Post by: El Cabron on December 20, 2013, 06:23:29 PM
Official Lamborghini for bitcoin thread!

Well people can stop saying "What can you buy with BTC?" and Greenspan I hope can start to realize there might be some "intrinsic value" in BTC.

Car was bought here www.lambonb.com using Bitpay. Thank you both for making this happen. Also tip of the hat to Satoshi.

I know there is some media interested in this story. You can contact me at lambo4btc@gmail.com

Here are some pics.

I read a story about some trucker who won one of these things in a raffle.  He made it about a mile on it's maiden voyage before totaling it.  Of course he had not gotten around to obtaining insurance by that time.  The worst of it was that he owed a shit-load of taxes on the value of his winnings.  So, at (litterally) the end of the day he had a tens of thousands of dollar debt and nothing on the positive side of the ledger.

There are several related morals to the story I suppose.  Be careful what you wish for, and there are many ways to snatch defeat from jaws of victory which can be, in hindsight, fairly obvious.

Relatedly, I had a mid engine car for a time (and old MR2 with a nice suspension) and due to the low polar moment of inertia it was amazing how fast one could end up looking in the rear view mirror to see what one is going to hit.  I'd suggest finding a road course to experiment around on if you are into that sort of thing.

Very nice!

How much will it cost if you want to take it over to Thailand though? Isn't it something ridiculous like 300% tax on cars?

Remember that guy who did the interview on BBC with Max Keiser? Saw him in another interview recently bringing this up. He was saying that the car dealership would now be sitting on a 50% loss. Erm, no, they changed it up into USD via bitpay dumbass, lol.

We all know Bitcoin is still volatile, and for now we have to hedge in USD because it's stable. Hopefully in another five years, Bitcoin will be stable enough that it will be unnecessary to convert straight to fiat. And hopefully by then I'll be able to buy one of these!

Got a great exchange rate (for now) too!

2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Coupe MSRP: USD 191,000 (http://vehicles.automobilemag.com/am/99/2014/lamborghini/gallardo/lp_550_2_coupe/6609/prices.html)
Paid: BTC216.8 (http://lamborghininewportbeach.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-bitcoin-saga-continues.html)
Effective exchange rate ~$881/BTC.

Congrats! I wouldn't imagine there are many Lambos cruising around Thailand.

The speed is not the only thing you have to worry about. It's the other drivers. You see, people only look back and to the side so far thinking that if they don't see a vehicle it's safe to change lanes. If Goat is moving faster than where they look he may have a car pull in front of him and it will be too late.

LOL, only on the Autobahn (only after you see the black-slash sign of course). And it's "reasonable and prudent": anything over 130 kph is considered "unreasonable" if you crash (and don't die).

But yes. :)

yes, you can go 300 km/h on a german autobahn. but most fun you will get from such a fine car not on the autobahn. instead one should go into the hills somewhere or a racetrack. thats where those cars really start to make sense.

going 270+ is nice but its not even close to what everybody thinks how much fun it is.

Yes was shipped to mo.

No not going to thailand when i go back next week.

Got a great exchange rate (for now) too!

2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Coupe MSRP: USD 191,000 (http://vehicles.automobilemag.com/am/99/2014/lamborghini/gallardo/lp_550_2_coupe/6609/prices.html)
Paid: BTC216.8 (http://lamborghininewportbeach.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-bitcoin-saga-continues.html)
Effective exchange rate ~$881/BTC.

Congrats! I wouldn't imagine there are many Lambos cruising around Thailand.

in bangkok actually there are plenty ,same with ferraris  ,porsches ,bentlys  and other extravagant motors from europe
for a third world country its amazing   how much money  the rich  have   :o

Exactly. There's a luxury car dealership inside of a mall called Siam Paragon.

Or at least, there was one when I was there a couple of years ago!

there are at least  5-6 luxury car dealerships and importers in bkk that i know off and i dont know every area of the city so theres probably more in total

there is one on Rama 9 rd  who sells every brand (even maseratti's and bugatti's :O )
a couple on Petchbury rd  heading towards Klong Tan there  2 or 3 showrooms  on the right side
ferrari dealer on  the botoom between Sukhumvit 22 and 24
and one behind the central world shopping complex
and thats not even counting the mercedes amg and bmw m3 / m5 dealers that are all over the place  and at every motor show

thais are very into expensive motorcycles  as  well ,some beautiful superbikes at my carpark that would be worth well over a million thb  each which is a lot considering how much average thai people get paid

So exciting!  Thanks for all the great press you are bringing to Bitcoin with this purchase.  Nothing like a beautiful yellow Lamborghini to get some people to think about what Bitcoin is. :)  I think all of us holders owe you a huge thanks!!!

Maybe in a year or two I can let BitChicksHusband go to Newport Beach and pick one up too.  He did just buy a new Mercedes though so maybe he won't need it. ;)

This guy was sending me PMs before begging me to send him BTC because supposedly he got sick from some girl while whoring in Thailand. I'm not sure if it was a scam or not but my rejecting his calls for free BTC seems to be why he is going into all my threads and insulting my family.

I had him on ignore and never would have seen what he posted had someone not quoted him.

So maybe he is just telling his own story: typical ferang got hooked and scammed by a super dark skinned Isaan lady. Probably he got a nasty illness too.

Ignore the haters, Goat!

Go Chaang!

Respect to you. Very much deserved.

The car is not so much my taste (I prefer old-timer cars that break down on you while driving),
but it's awesome what you've done.

This is why I love bitcoin you could sell it right now make a profit and just wait until the price hits $1000 again... insanity!

while it is really cool  if you make a huge profit of the volatility ,it is one of the reasons holding btc back from wider acceptance  and making merchants scared to go near it (b4 someone says it ,i already  know theres bitpay and other ways to protect against but not every merchant has a clue that youo can cash em on the spot for the fiat of your choice  leaving you with no risk of volatility)

Well buying back then was hard. The banks would actually refuse to send my money to exchanges. I managed to buy some at these low prices using a work around, but this only worked for a limited amount.

this was before they had banking problems and were forced to change banks a few times

since then i havent sold a coin  and they are worth about 100 x times what i paid for them at this time

intersango on the other hand still owe me about 200usd i had waiting to buy usd btc and they refuse to refund it

the 9-10usd dollar btc were my last purchase of btc  ,not my first, most of my coins cost me  maybe half  that  ;)
and there is a ridiculous tax of 200 or 300% tax  on so called luxury imported  goods like vehicles  (in thailand )

goats lambo registered here would be worth a multiple of what its worth  in europe or usa so  i  think i would not only break even but maybe even profit on  resale if the costs of bringing it in and geting it registered were included in the deal

the roads  in bangkok (small streeets etc ) do not suit a lambo though ,there is too many ramps on every small sttreet  to slow down speeding motorcycles that a lambo would not have enough ground clearnace for so it would end up losing the front bumper if i tried to drive it to my house

even on my bike the exhaust scrapes the ground if i dont slow down enough and my bike has more ground clearance than a lambo and less weight as well

BTW, if you guys did not know, this Lambo sucks on ice :(

if it had german style snow tyres it would probably stick to the ice like glue
but there aint no ice in thailand anyway if you decide to bring it over

just the import taxes are a crucifix on foreign vehicles

i bought a suzuki gsx1000rr  imported from japan and it was a serious pain in the balls
to get  a greenbook and number plated in thailand involving many obstables/bribes  along the way

it was still cheaper than buying it fom suzuki thailand in the end but the hassle was so much
i wouldnt bother doin it again

Congratulations on your car, but threads like this insinuate the pyramid scheme reputation that bitcoin has :(
"Look, I have a Lambo! Buy in and you can also someday own a Lambo!". Most of the pyramid scheme resembling businesses operate like this, with early adopters talking about their cars and villas during presentations. So, enjoying your bitcoin wealth with a little subtlety wouldn't hurt :)

Except in Goat's case we all know that he made his money with investments. BTW: He was one of the few passthroughs of the thief Pirate that actually made it right with the community. I think the point is that if you use your brain, a little skill, and some luck you can also buy in to Bitcoin and make a fortune with it. You must be willing to apply yourself (start a business, invest, etc.).

I doubt copying the advertisement tactics from pyramid schemes is hardly a bad idea. It clearly works. It will work for something that isn't a pyramid scheme too.

Pyramid schemes tactics work with simple-minded people and they scare away smart people who have any ethics at all. I personally don't want to be involved in anything that uses pyramid scheme tactics in marketing. Do you?

I'm not attacking Goat's persona nor his past actions regarding bitcoin. So no need to defend him against that. I was just pointing out that maybe more subtlety should be considered if one doesn't like the pyramid scheme reputation that bitcoin has.

You don't get it. Ostentatious displays of wealth are common marketing techniques. That has nothing to do with the design of the business. So is Chanel a pyramid?

Except in Goat's case we all know that he made his money with investments. BTW: He was one of the few passthroughs of the thief Pirate that actually made it right with the community. I think the point is that if you use your brain, a little skill, and some luck you can also buy in to Bitcoin and make a fortune with it. You must be willing to apply yourself (start a business, invest, etc.).

Technically everything in society is a pyramid. It's not really a problem if you're relatively close to the top though :)

You know what he's talking about. A pyramid scheme.

Bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme at all. PERIOD

The advertisement tactics of pyramid schemes work. So IF you want to advertise Bitcoin (not necessary for eventual growth, just a catalyst for faster adoption) it's a pretty good tactic. I mean, people that try to get stores to accept Bitcoin are applauded. Why isn't this? It's the same thing.

Ok, I see that I opened a really nasty can of worms with my observation. I wish you merry christmas and hope that you will also see the point that I tried to make.

I actually haven't seen any Chanel stockholders showing their cars to attract new stockholders. And also it is a little hard to understand how can you put a cryptocurrency in the comparable group with a fashion company :/
But please, let's end it here. I didn't know what I was getting myself into with making this observation. Carry on with all your fun talks about luxury machinery :)

The point of buying the car was to show that it can be done. Also to counter people like greenspan saying btc lacked intrensic value.

Yes i could have bought something else but now the whole world knows you can buy real goods with btc.

I'm sorry that I came back, but I was just too tempted to point out that buying a car doesn't prove BTC intrinsic value.  The working time spent on creating the BTC core software, creating the mining hardware, creating the support services, electricity used, demand of product etc. prove that BTC  has calculable intrinsic value. Buying a car only shows that BTC has value, without pointing out if the value is intrinsic or speculative. And that was already proven when first bitcoins were sold with couple of cents per coin. And it is still proven by exchanges that trade bitcoins for a certain price.
My problem was not with your car and I also like exotic pieces of machinery. I was just pointing out that maybe it isn't useful to create certain type of first-impressions. When the bitcoin market will be flooded with people who are vulnerable to these types of marketing techniques, then the outcome isn't pretty. These people are unstable and vulnerable to all kinds of simple types manipulations and bitcoin is not ready for that. Bitcoin needs more serious people who are able to be supportive to the entire evolutionary process. And these types of marketing techniques will make BTC unattractive to serious and ethical people without who BTC will not survive.
I see bitcoin as a step in monetary evolution, so it hurts me to see it treated like a standard pyramid scheme.

I'll try not to respond again, because I see that my observation aggravates people here. But I hope that you'll think about my line of thought.

Take care and drive safe :)

so we need around 400 bitcoin to buy one

say if bitcoin increase 10x every year, so we need

2013 - 400 btc
2014 - 40 btc
2015 - 4 btc
2016 - 0.4 btc

Well people can stop saying "What can you buy with BTC?" and Greenspan I hope can start to realize there might be some "intrinsic value" in BTC.

Car was bought here www.lambonb.com using Bitpay. Thank you both for making this happen. Also tip of the hat to Satoshi.

I know there is some media interested in this story. You can contact me at lambo4btc@gmail.com

What is having a good brain if not the luck of being born with good genetics, the right wirings to come up with thinks that have never been though before and so on? It's ALL mostly luck to hit wealthy status, let's be serious here for a sec.

Don't be jealous.  This can very easily be all of us in a few years.  ;)  I am fairly certain it is not about what price bitcoin is purchased yet because we are all very early in this and the rate of increase could be as great, or even greater, than it has already been.  It could very well be that we will have our own "Lambos" in a few years as well.  A little patience is an important thing when it comes to BTC.

This thread is a real dream/ambition/motivation for mere mid 2014 adopters like myself, obvious it's miles away at the moment but maybe if we go to $10,000 in 10+ years time then this kind of dream is a reality for people like myself.
Hey it's good to dream big isn't it, no matter how unrealistic it may seem right now we have to hold out hope.

Bought for 216 btc, selling for 720 btc. Nice profit!

Yeah, but bitcoin was worth a lot more back then. Does anyone know the fiat value of what he paid for it originally?

At a guess 150,000 - 200,000 GBP roughly translating to 240,000 - 300,000 USD.
Just off the top of my head a top spec Lambo will cost in the range of those prices.

I've owned a couple of quasi supercars. I don't think I'd ever go there again. In the UK it doesn't inspire appreciation. People just tend to think you're a flashy twat.

Staying under the radar is far more peaceful and more fun. I'd go for a stinky old banger with a few hundred grand's worth of WRC technology bristling underneath.

I imagine it's fun for awhile but the attention would get old unless you crave it. I've heard many people say that's the reason they ditch their dream cars even though they love driving them.   Saying that..it would be great to have one for the occasional ride. In my location it's super unnecessary and you must be super rich as upfront cost and maintenance are stupid compared to the U.S..and the roads are not super car worthy.

I'd like to have one on some kind of timeshare if I ever end up spending time in the U.S again..and, well, btc makes me wealthy again lol.

Wasn't aware that was the current of thought in the UK, it seemed quite the opposite when I went there once: super cars pretty much everywhere on the streets. Of all kinds and brands...

So I guess there are many twats around there? :D

As for staying under the radar... Agreed ;)

Compared to almost any other country I've been to, the UK is heaving with top end cars. In comparison in Europe or the US you might spot a fancy car every couple of days if you're lucky.

It's not down to wealth as much as a love of outrageous amounts of credit. I think the UK is the world's most personally indebted economy by a long way.

A supercar in London is just part of the landscape. Elsewhere it's open season from jealous dick heads. Brits do not like or encourage overt displays of success.

There are lots of high end cars and super cars here in the UK. It's not rare at all.

Just at my gym in the car park are Astons, Porsches, ferraris (sometimes). One guy I know has a Bugatti veyron too! But he keeps it at his holiday home in Monaco.

Unbelievable.

Nope it's all on the never never. Look at all the finance options on the table for the average car buyer here. In France you can barely get the bank to hand over a credit card with a couple of hundred Euro limit.

Any investment is going to pay more to the initial investors than it pays when the investment is more seasoned. I'm jealous of the early Apple Inc investors. Every one of them is famously wealthy, later investors - not so much.

This is assuming that they did not cash out prior to Apple having the incredible run that started ~10ish years ago. I am sure that there are plenty of people that purchased bitcoin when it was trading for only pennies, to later sell for ~$5 each, missing the runup to over $1,000. I don't see why there would be any reason why Apple shareholders would not engage in a similar practice in some instances.

I think there's a bit of pride mixed up in the burning too. Apple just makes stuff, albeit cool stuff in the eyes of others.

If you'd said you were going all in back in the day people might have said 'woah, that's a risk' but it was just another company and one with a healthy past.

Going all in and winning with BTC is a far more way out move in the eyes of many. It proves to your pussy investor friends that you had vision and balls of steel.

Yes I completely agree with you. The price of bitcoin has completely skyrocketed and there was a time when it was trading for pennies and the people who have bought bitcoins that time and still having it will have the luxury to spend them on such items, this is one of the things that has made many early adopters multi millionaires.

I ain't wealthy. I used to broker and buy and sell classic and competition cars. It was a filthy business filled with scum and it got worse the higher up you went. I despise thieving and lying so I was never really going to end up making bank and there is a LOT of money sloshing around in that market wanting to be spent.

There were high end American dealers paying little old men in Modenese sheds to take a $50,000 basket case Ferrari, hammer out a new body, glue on fake numbers and sell it for several mil.

After one ludicriously fast car too many I got it out of my system and these days I'd prefer to take the bus.

My silliest was probably a 640 bhp Ford RS200. Luckily the public approved of that one or didn't know what it was. Had I hung on to some of the cars I played with back in the day then I would be wealthy.

I have a better idea:
Apply for financing to finish it, make it a profitable business and then sell it in shares.

You might want to organize a share issuence for instance via invesdor.com for finishing the building.
After that sell your share to someone else, but before that it obviously need to make profit. Nobody wants to buy a business that loses money.

You are right, I have not owned a castle. I wonder how did you guess.  ::)

While it is true a castle in own use costs money indeed, it can be used also for business but then it has to be in good shape.
Weddings, concerts, accomondation etc. can be organized there and they all bring money in + you probably can apply some kind of financial aid from EU or some other instance - after all, it has some historical value.
If I am not mistaken, Haikon Kartano in Finland has that type of business model despite it is not very convenient to reach there - one need to own a car to get there (which a large position of people living in Helsinki do not own).

Come on. Isn't everyone here typing from their castle? Show us some deeds or forever leave this thread.

I occasionally borrow a compact and bijoux Scottish castle. It's 11th century but sadly it's been turned into a 70s nightmare of his n'hers vanity tables and acres of stripped pine. I don't think I'd be buying it any time soon even if I had the cash, let alone a properly sized one.

Googled some photos of that castle.
I am not sure if I found the right one but to me the one I found looked, well, ugly (outside, not so much inside).
Like a stereotype of a haunted castle from some kind of horror story.

If you paid me nicely I might consider taking it for a while but if I had to pay - no way. Not even for free.

It is prosperous in parts, especially London of course. The South East sucks a vast amount of life from the rest of the country. Loads of Europeans come there because there's more money to be made and it's far easier and more lucrative to set up a business there than elsewhere in Europe.

There's something like 300,000 French folks in London alone, so many that they might get their own MP in the French parliament.

One thing that does unify Brits is their love of suicidal quantities of credit.

In France you have to fellate your bank manager to get the tiniest of mortgages. In the UK they were doling out 125% mortgages to any old psycho with 'self certification' ie you just told them you were earning enough and they'd gaily hand over the cash.

There's loads of money sloshing around. Not a great deal of it was actually earned.

There are locations where a castle is accompanied by a large, new resort or something where business is profitable, though.

I once toured multiple stately homes and country estates looking for some land to use. Without exception the owners were desperate and horrifically broke. One guy lived in a green house in his main hall as that was the only thing he could afford to heat.

Maybe I was hanging out with the wrong people.

If you mean by ancient the ruins, it definetely will not make money.
However, if the castle is renovated with style (you can hire cheap labour from eastern Europe - probably you will get professionals from countries like Poland, Romania, Bulgaria etc. for less than 3-5 euros/hour) it should bring some income. Of course the maintenance is a headache, but also the owner can do it while spending some good time there. After all, the maintenance of own castle should be fun also and one needs to love it and serving the customers with high standards.
Also managing the castle probably gives a lot of time when the manager can also enjoy (not every minute there is a customer).
The prices should also be competive especially in country like Estonia.
It will not be a gold mine but I think it is possible to make some money while having good times...

The lambo thing is very possible and might happen very soon. This is not only applicable to BTC but also to ETH the rival of BTC in the coinmarketcap. Cant wait to have my lambo in 2020 ;)  This is the beauty of crypto.

After reading this thread, I became very excited to continue collecting bitcoin as much as possible and realize the dream to be able to get lamborghini. Hopefully in 2020 bitcoin that I have can suffice to buy lamborghini.

In the automotive sphere, bitcoins are often taken as payment for premium cars. So, the sensational Tesla Model S cost about 140 thousand euros not once sold for bitcoins at the current rate.

Base on this info it means the owner of The Bitcoin Pub website is a possible con artist

In this video Peter Saddington claims he bought BTC in 2011 and is the first person in the world to buy a lambo with the coin.

Clearly this thread is evidence of the lie.

Has anyone heard of this guy on BTC talk because I have not! I have had accounts here since 2013 but multiple bans...anyone whos been around knows about the lambo El Cabron purchased

goat was first, it was yellow, he didn't keep it long

end of story

he deleted most of his posts before he left, I don't know when he changed his user name to El Cabron.  He was a fixture here back in the day.  Started a private board called crypto crypt...all those guys are probably rich as fuck by now.

According to me this is really very very good news that a luxury car company has accepted bitcoin as a payment and sold his car in exchange of bitcoin . Lamborghini suppose to be the very expensive car and many people can just dream of having it but bitcoin has enabled to complete this dream. Bitcoin always helps people in achieving my dreams in life and moreover this is very big achievement for bitcoin also that its use has been started as a payment method

Yeah, he is rich as fuck. He probably has tens of thousands of btc. Remember Goat ran a pass-through for Pirate@40. The pass-through operators were never prosecuted and kept all their btc.
