There's no real way to generate coins now other than trading goods or other coins. ASIC based miners have made mining horribly uneconomical and faucets will give you hundreds of cents at most.

You can use your GPU to mine Scrypt coins and exchange to Bitcoin. Still profitable slightly

With 1 or 2 good gpus, you can mine alt coins and then trade for bitcoins. This is the first profitable way to earn bitcoins.

2. Development/Designing.
3. Gambling - Huge loss is also possible.

I like how most people are focused on mining / faucets / buying. Even though this is probably just a newbie trying to get post count, I'd still make note to mention that the best way to get BTC is the same way you get any other currency - work. Find something you can get paid for, in BTC, and do it.

I think that alt coin mining and then trading to Bitcoins is the way to go if you're willing to invest some money and want to make quick profit. Another way is to collect smaller amounts of Bitcoins from faucets and offers.

If you are in Vancouver just head down to the Waves Coffee shop on Smite and Howe with the cash amount that you want to purchase in Bitcoin.
There's usually a Bitcoiniacs employee there to assist you with getting started.

Faucets may not pay a lot, but you never know what a few thousand Satoshi willl be worth in a few months!
