Post by: instacalm on December 27, 2013, 09:55:42 PM
In continuation of the announcement that we are looking for more NXT core devs, there are features we are planning to implement till block 525960
(in alphabetical order):

1 Alias System (done)
2 Arbitrary Messages (partially)
3 Asset Exchange (done)
4 Distributed Computing (concept not ready)
5 Distributed Storage
6 Instant Transactions (requires peer review)
7 Mixing Service (concept not ready)
8 Multisignatures
9 Service Providers
10 Shrinking
11 Smart Contracts (concept not ready)
12 Transparent Mining (partially)
13 Two-phase Payments

I'd like to get your opinions what features should be implemented in the 1st place.

5 Distributed Storage : If this were implemented with an emphasis on storing small secure encrypted containers for passwords (password management databases using KeePass, for example) and cold storage wallets for various cryptocurrencies this would send out a strong message that NXT is serious about security and longevity.

I would like to offer up another potentially simple to implement but extremely powerful feature:

16 Beneficiary Address : This feature allows you to define an account number/address to which your earned fees are sent. This would allow for a number of potential applications...

(i) Decentralized Forge Bank (every member of the bank performs their own forging, the transaction fees get sent to a central authority that divides the spoils which then redistributes them accordingly/proportionally)
(ii) Running your own Savings account 24/7 which sends the transaction fees to your checking account.
(iii) Donating all your transaction fees to a charity, bounty etc.

Please consider adding feature 16. Thank you.

Al

6, 7, 14

But if work is almost done on some of the features in progress I think they should be prioritized first before starting new projects.

I got a message of BCNext regarding this. He is thinking about changing the mining algo, a new approach will used Cunicula's proposal to assign a unique id to each coin. If this way is not flawed then we'll get trustless pooled mining. There are no details yet, the concept may be changed.

We didn't heard anything about this since then. Any update?
I think from a purely PR standpoint this would be one of the most urgent feature.

The fact that smaller Nxt holders can take a while (a long time actually) to forge a block, is one of the most frequent complain about Nxt. New adopters who only want to invest a small amount into nxt, and use to mining, don't like the long forging period, they became angry and dismissive about nxt.
I feel that this sets back the acceptance of Nxt by the crypto community.
