Title: [9.5.2011 Update]The BitCard Update Thread
Post by: logansryche on August 25, 2011, 06:47:48 AM
Hello all,
I'm pleased to announce the relaunch of BitCard!

http://www.thebitcardstore.com

We've had a rocky road ever since mybitcoins.com went offline, but we are now back online and ready to take your orders! We are a card selling site that operates under the currency of Bitcoins. Our inventory features Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh and Magic: The Gathering cards not to mention specialty cards such as gift cards for all the major brands, phone cards for Verizon and AT&T, and game cards for the XBox, Facebook and IMVU! In the future we plan on carrying playing cards, card games and other card items. This thread will also serve as an update thread.

Here's to the future of BitCard and Bitcoins!

We do. All cards bought on the site are physically shipped.

I'm rather offput by two things:
1.  Frames.  I know they're useful, but they really give the site a "mid-90s Dot-Com boom" feel to them.
2.  Manually having me enter the price, and the fact that I can put any dollar amount I want into it and it'll print me up the invoice all the same.

It just gives me this somewhat unprofessional vibe, and I'd be hesitant to send a significant number of coins as a result.

From what I can tell though, you're not really charging a transaction fee which is nice, though I don't know how Bit-Pay handles its conversion rate or how often it updates it.

Well I couldn't figure out a way to set bit pay to accept a variable payment so that was the only way I could do that. I'm also proud of my simplistic site design. It doesn't show my talent as a web designer, but it's a hell of a lot easier to maintain then open cart.

BitCard's currently under construction(again) as I convert everything back over to Open Cart so it will work with Bit Pay's module. Will post again when it's all done.

On a side note:  heh, I forgot I have tons of sports cards from 12+ years ago that I bought at a garage sale for pennies apiece.  Pretty sure none of them are worth anything, but it was something to collect for a few short months as an elementary-schooler.

Indeed.. I basically built my childhood up around baseball cards.
I was an only child until I was 15 and the collection was still small.
I would get occasional cards from the 70s or early 80s from my dads boss or from the store(the local stores were still selling cards up till about 2002).
One of the things I had said to my parents was how cool it would be to run a card shop, so here I am doing it lol.
Only side notes obviously are we sell other cards besides baseball cards like sport cards and gift cards and card games, that and the currency.
I see bitcoins the only way my wife and I(she collects pokemon cards) can own and run our own shop without breaking ourselves.
I think anyone that can remember seeing Back to the Future in the theater can remember coming in contact with/owning baseball cards at some point in their childhood.
I could go into what BitCard means to me but I think I'd bore everyone lol.

Sad news folks. As of Sept 1 2011, BitCard will be no more. Alot of things attributed to it's demise, the main one being the fall of mybitcoin.com. That literly destroyed my ability to accept bitcoins. I've tried many carts over the past weeks and many plugins that claimed to work with bitcoins. It won't be much, but I'm going to go back to mining.

No but i've been bugging the guys at bit pay and I think their getting annoyed with me.
They were supose to release an opencard module yesterday but ran into some trouble so they were going to release it today but i've yet to see anything about it. I have till the first to pull out of this rut.
It's literly costing me hundreds of bitcoins by not being able to accept bitcoins.

Oh No, I was just there this morning.

It's a great idea just needs more time to grow. I hope you find a solution to your cart and reconsider.

Best of luck.

Everything's riding on wither I can find an opencart plugin to accept bitcoins by or on the first.
I think i've annoyed the folks over at bit-pay enough.

Ok folks, BitCard will be offline after the 9th so I can attempt to get some btc together to move it over to bitcoinwebhost.com I know I have btc but it's for a vehicle and right now, the vehicle is more important then the site. So from now till the 9th, there will be an under construction sign on the site. If anyone did want a card from us, PM me manualy and we'll go from there.

This is a major update to anyone wondering the status of BitCards.

The owner of bitcoinwebhost contacted me about switching everything over to their servers so as to run Zen Cart properly(which it does now). I've also got the bitcoin gateway setup and that end's ready to go. As I just mentioned, we've switched from OpenCart, to NopCart, back to OpenCart and now Zen Cart lol. This change will allow BitCard to continue to function as the internet's first and only card shop that takes bitcoins. We've also done away with any sort of currency but bitcoin.. I feel its an important move as bitcoins are a neutral currency and not limited to any particular country.

To that end, some of the products are on the pages. I'm still trying to figure out how to add drop down menu's for most of the gift cards, but the ones for itunes and the xbox live cards are up. Also, we've had to re-evaluate our baseball,pokemon,yu-gi-oh and magic card quantity's. Most of the baseball cards have been sorted out into collections dropping the store quantity(which is a god thing since not everyone is into baseball). I did find out what happened to the boosters of football cards we had and they were off in another stack here on the desk, but they are up, as is the only basketball card we have lol. After this post, I'll be working on putting the pokemon, yu-gi-oh and magic cards up, not to mention working on the games section(although there is a small amount of topps attax cards on there already).

Come join us and see the new BitCard, we're here and we're not going anywhere.
