I am so glad he invited me on his show. We made some important discoveries like Sacrifice is not the same as Surrender; legitimacy has to be earned; and it should be easier to get to the top than it is to stay there. We also talked about the need to scale but I believe it's not about being big, it's about being relevant. What's decentralised is not the code or the server nodes but the idea itself.

I really look forward to doing more stuff with these guys and if you do too please give us a shout and get involved.

Meanwhile in China @Lizhi (http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?action=profile;u=18164) has been busy. One of the biggest threats to Crypto Currencies is not centralisation but specialisation. That's when a small group of people have privileged access to information and resources. Even back in the 18th Century Adam Smith (http://www2.hn.psu.edu/faculty/jmanis/adam-smith/wealth-nations.pdf) noted:

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices….


We are tool makers and mining hardware needs to be affordable and available to everyone. If I understand correctly @lizhi has created 240Khash output at 2 Watts per unit! This could be pretty significant.

And this is what it's all about: the people at the top giving those at the bottom, who have the best perspective, everything they need to remove their barriers to success. Hardware like this can easily be open sourced and made available to people all over the world to join the network.

Spreading the network across geographic as well as cultural lines places a higher burden on a would be attacker as no attack can take place without collusion. That collusion in turn requires a co-understanding with other peers. Which means that by the time the attacker has achieved their aim they have unwittingly taken part in producing the very outcome we are all here to work towards.

This year must start with a much needed revamp of the website. Right now it simply does not do us justice. We jumped in so fast that we just didn't get the time to sort out some of the basics. We even ran out of Feathercoins on Bittylicious (https://bittylicious.com/) this morning (there were 10s of the thousands before Xmas) because sometimes it's too easy to take on too much at once and lose yourself.

I am delighted to tell you (again!) that Kevlar's Blockchain Link (http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,6518.msg48750.html#msg48750) project went live on the 31st December. Here's the elevator pitch:

It looks like it will feature some pretty big names.


So what do you think? If there is someone from the US who wants to go and represent then I will gladly hand over to them as I would like to see more people get involved offline. These conferences aren't like other industry gatherings as they are not merely an excuse for employees to take time off work on the company account. They are very productive and inspiring and usually full of great people.

Newsletter is too long. The wall of text makes it difficult to read so formatting might need to be changed (not sure if this is possible but make it slimmer, each line of text is too wide). The information and writing is good, you just need to shorten it down to the essential bits. It shouldn't require more than a couple scrolls to read.

If you have side stories, mention them with a link to a blog post or something so that interested readers can be redirected. You don't need to post details about every single project that the majority of readers don't really care about. Only top 2 or 3 stories should be mentioned succinctly, 6 or 7 headlines is too much.

The Key Stats section is good, and maybe needs a little expanding. Including the current price as well as difficulty would be useful.


Anyways, I do like the newsletter, but I think the length turns most people off.

An idea for the newsletter --> Include a graph showing the exchange rate of FTC to BTC and to USD over the period since the last newsletter. That way newcomers will have something to hold onto when thinking about FTC.

Feathercoin gives me more confidence than the majority of altcoins out there. The community aspect and developer involvement is what I most like about it. I hadn't looked at it too much before and now wish I had. The newsletter is great and I happened upon the Peace News Now episode yesterday. I love it!
