Title: Bitcoin network should be sustained by distributed renewable energy Post by: xenoky on January 08, 2014, 07:32:56 PM Bitcoin network should be sustained by distributed renewable energy, both sides have advantages.
Miners save money from the electricity bill and the plant doesn't need to be connected to the grid. Desired side effect? Reducing carbon footprint of the planet. It's the perfect marriage. I already have a 6kw photovoltaic power plant grid connected, obviously it's useless for my miners when sun is not shining. I have 3 project in mind for the new year, money and time permitting:
Available for any question or criticism. Bitcoin itself does not need to get into the politics of what kind of energy people should use, that's beyond its scope. Title: Re: Bitcoin network should be sustained by distributed renewable energy Post by: xenoky on January 09, 2014, 08:38:23 AM I agree, there is no best energy source at all and miners could use what they want to power their miners.
Anyway there are good spot for one kind of energy, just hoping to inspire someone thought like: "I have a south oriented roof" or "there is a small river near my nanny house" or "my balcony is a windy place". I am absolutely not saying: "hey guys let's choose best energy for bitcoin" Title: Re: Bitcoin network should be sustained by distributed renewable energy Post by: Elwar on January 09, 2014, 08:42:06 AM Bitcoin needs a small self contained solar unit that acts as a miner and a wireless relay that can be placed atop telephone poles and high up in trees.
Make it so. Make it so. Yeah it's nice. But unfortunately, small and photovoltaic are not really friends. For example a single 250W panel is about 1.5 square meter and in 1 year in my condition generate about 280kWh, that is an average of just 33W over the year. Wind and specially Hydro produce more energy with the same nominal power in good condition |
