I'm a lurker here for quite a while now, but never bothered to create account,
as I didn't need to post here. Now when I'd like to, I'm forced to post some crap,
just to overcome this. ugh.

I feel it is fair enough, seeing on different websites and forums there are fear mongering people who float around and people sending disinformation for their own benefits so this insures people are legit I guess.

I agree. Joined over a hundred forums in my life on various topics, and have never, ever had a limitation such as this one. This is to prevent trolling? Please.

I don't even know how you get to post in other areas. The newbie readme did not make that clear.

I think there was something about acquiring the feather of a golden eagle found in a submarine in the Marianas trench.. maybe? :)

It's a good way to prevent spamming for giveaways, that's for sure!

Yeah, it does suck. There are a few reasons I could see for having it...
Prevent people from making fake accounts to
  • Take multiple giveaways (this could still happen but would be more time consuming to create each account but I guess once you create a few you could keep them?)
  • Prevent people from using fake accounts to build their own rep for trading. e.g. Person leaves good feedback about exchanging money for crypto coin but is really a scammer

I guess they also like to keep out the ill-informed or the lazy. Those that look around and search the forums will understand how to get past the newbie stage. That is precisely how I knew to come here. I guess there is a probably a plethora of good reasons why to have it, that being said however, I agree that this limitation is quite the pain in the ass

I suppose you can consider it as a Proof-of-Work, but instead of mining coins, you gain board privileges  8)
