Title: Will this year's bitcoin price potentially surpass the highs of last year?
Post by: KrakenZ on May 24, 2018, 03:44:37 AM
Bitcoin continues to experience pressure after approaching the fifth month of a bearish moving average.
Bitcoin was trading at $ 7.881.40, falling 4.27% on Wednesday (04/23) on the Bitfinex exchange.

The five-month moving average of Bitcoin was at $ 8.916, and the 10-month moving average was at $ 8.379, well off the high of nearly $ 20,000 in December. A fall in prices usually indicates lower price movements in the long run, some analysts said.

Total market capitalization totaled $ 344 billion, down from $ 382 billion on Tuesday.

Other digital coins are also moving lower. Ethereum, the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, shed 10.36% to $ 620.25 on Bitfinex exchange. Ripple, the third largest virtual currency, tumbled 8.60% to $ 0.61299 while Litecoin was at $ 124.26 with a 6.57% jump.

The instability of the digital asset market could be more about how investors view than other factors that typically impact fiat currencies, a research paper from the University of Warwick suggests.
Trading volumes are driven by past returns and market uncertainty, while confidence in blockchain and digital currency technology also impacts prices.

If it goes through that line it looks bad..
If not, it looks good..

I think BTC can do about anything pricewise so I won't rule out new all time highs this year but I wouldn't count on it..
Holding in close to 10K would have me very happy for a while.. No need for another moon so soon IMO..

Yes it can surpass the highs of last year. I could say that because even it has a long period of downfall it is has a much better situations than last year because it's movements are still in the mid value and not lower than that. So for me, it will be mean that it can also gives much better and higher movements before the end of this year and also I believe that nothing will be impossible to Bitcoin.

the "highs" of last year lasted minutes
EG
there is no point saying that a retailer sold a 50" TV for $1. if there was only 1 TV and the store manager himself bought it.. such spectacular pricing events does not help anyone and no one benfits from the special price.

.
what people should concentrate on is that we do not go below the LOWS of previous years.

there are ways for a exchange whale/group of sharks, school of piranha to cause a mega spike to a new ATH but it can just correct back down to low levels again that exact same day. thus not being a useful price for many people to take an advenatage of, but becomes just a statistic.

so try not to concentrate on short term 10 minute events. and think about long term stable growth that everyone can take advantag of.

once people start accepting and helping to build good supports for the lows to nevr drop. then th cause/reaction would be it helps the speculative shirt term jumps to hannen and keps the low supports increasing. so that people dont need to hope for one time ATH events.. they can aim for long term increases

May is usually the month wherein shorters take a good 'ol laugh and the hopefuls usually hide behind a thick layer of disappointment and disbelief. Though with the current lows of today compared to last year's, I'd still take the beating we're experiencing right now and accept the price. As I've noticed, everytime after an ATH is blown, we settle into higher lows (if it makes sense) and becomes a new baseline for the price to work with. As long as we don't slid under the previous lows of previous ATH, I think we're pretty damn good, price wise.

There is a high probability that it could surpass the last year highest price of 20k. And here are the reasons why. 1.  Bitcoin has proven to be no. one in the cryptocurrency industry. No matter how black propagandas are staining its name still to proves to be of significance to the general populace and it stays stronger every time it is being attacted. 2. Bitcoin is Getting more popular each year to other countries making a bigger and brighter market for it. 3. It continues to dominate the crypto market from the beginning till now.

As per coinmarketcap website, the price of one bitcoin was $2443.64 on 24th May 2017, just an year back. So if I compare it with today's price, it is an increase of 209.29%. Name any other class of investment, which can fetch you a profit of 209% in a year. I doubt you will be able to name any single asset which can outperform bitcoin in returns.

The bitcoin market is highly dynamic which makes it a speculator's heaven. I would have worried if the blockchain technology, which is the core technology of bitcoin was considered as a junk technology. But blockchain is highly regarded worldwide for its capability and integrity. So I am not worried about this small decrease in price. Instead I am looking it as an opportunity to score more bitcoins for my cold storage.

Of course, bitcoin can surpass last year's high in 2018 as well. But since we don't know what future has in store for us, let us wait for that time and see for ourselves. It definitely has the potential but also depends on many other factors like legislative structures and adoption decisions. So wait and watch! But make sure to have enough bitcoins in your cold storage to get the benefits when it happens.

The price of bitcoin is unpredictable because it suffers too much from the actions of governments, influencers. It is predicted that bitcoin may drop back to 6k+
in my opinion it will be hard and impossible to bitcoin price surpass ATH last year.

Last December, the bitcoins price hike followed by the market sources prediction is that the year 2018 will be a very good period for the
bitcoin and also expects that its price can move up to any heights.  Based on that ,though the current market price still bearish and below 8 K USD this drop we can say that it is due to the market volatility. Bitcoins usefulness and its positive features attracts the people world wide for their daily business requirements. Still there is possibilities to surpass the bitcoin price to the projected heights.

We do experiencing bearish and below $8k but it can be considered as a normal movements in the market and we all known that Bitcoin has always a high volatility which it can be perform much lower and can be much higher value. But still, for sure everyone of us hoping that it can perform much better this year and can be surpass the highs of last year so we can be much more benefited.

I am not actually worried about the case of bitcoin. I am worried about is the coins that are in the bottom of the coin ranks. You really shouldn't worry about bitcoin's right now because bitcoin still has a bright future ahead of it. We can say for sure that it will still develop in the next few months. Let's just continue to hope that the bitcoin trend won't go down continuously until the end of the year.

Possible but from how I see it we won't be reaching a new high this year with a lot of bad news spreading around I doubt people would jump in again with no hesitation like last year. I like what franky said instead of expecting for another high we should focus on maintaining the price. Then again I could be wrong since no one here really knows because someone could pull off a good speculation with a strong reasoning and could still end up wrong. We'll have to wait on what would the price look like between October to December because that's where the price really started taking off.

I am highly optimistic about Bitcoin in the short as well as in the super long term. The correction process has taught a good lesson to the investors involved in the price rally and now I am sure that we will see matured decision from those investors. I am also expecting the involvement of the big whales and institutional investors to take the advantage of the low levels and bull run in the second half of this year.

There will always be that certain possibility. Things might turn great and unfortunately
sometimes drastic and dissatisfied. I think btc might have something to prove similarly
or somehing better than last years. Prices will spike and grow a bit more, but that still
remains as a debatable case.

Bitcoin price will be bumped more in the market. I see today bitcoin price is little dumped in the value if you are looking to invest on it.
This is right time mate for investing on BTC and few alts mate.
I expect the bitcoin to reach the 10k USD in the market before this month end itself. Before this year means we can expect more value mate.

Whatever it would take, I just wish of it surpass the all time high of $20k. Currently there are six remaining months to prove that the bitcoin price could surpass its peek price. I you could recall, the price of bitcoin increase starts from around september and dropping down on the second week of december. If the luck is within us and the US rules and regulations have laid it out good. Then, I can bet that the price will soar again.

Bitcoin prices will surpass the peak of last year and the price adjustment from $ 20,000 is normal.
Most recently, CCN reported that Goldman Sachs, one of the largest investment banks in the financial sector, has officially decided to launch a pre-codec trading platform after "joking" the Bitcoin market. for more than 6 months.
Rana Yared, an executive at Goldman Sachs, said that they are still skeptical about coding but due to the huge demand from customers and the willingness of investors to own Bitcoin as an alternative asset. Valuable, Yared says the bank must begin to create conditions to meet those needs of its customers.
Greenspan, billionaire investor Mike Novogratz and Pantera Capital, Dan Morehead, together with many other investors, have noted that Bitcoin prices are likely to surpass all-time highs by 2018. With its growth momentum and its rapid recovery, Bitcoin will reach the $ 20,000 mark if it can maintain its trading volume.

Since many people had been inspired and believed it's capability, many people were now encourage to invest in btc because they believed it's performance growth could make their investment earn good profit.

Actually, no one can gives exact things to be happen in the future. It is can be possible to happen where in it can surpass or beat the highest price in year 2017 but there will also a possibility that it can stay in the mid price or stick to it's highest price record. We can only base to some graph or speculations of others but doesn't have any confirmation of what will going to be happen. All that we can do for now is keep patient and believe to this system therefore we can do still supporting it until we reach our beautiful and sweet success in the future.

I agree, for me it's impossible for bitcoin to reach the price that happened in 2017, maybe we can assume that it might hit $10,000 by the end of the year 2018. And I hope that the price that occur in 2017 happen again. A lot of people lose hope and withdraws from the crypto market, but some investors and holders are still waiting for the right opportunity, and they stay positive even though there's a lot of loss.

I think, by the end of 2018 or early 2019 bitcoin has the potential to rise above 2017, besides the technical reasons of analysis I think many investors are in cryptocurrency more than last year. especially with the many ICO projects and many investors who hold their tokens. logically, if the investor is profit then will exchange the token in the form of bitcoin. if that happens the market will experience massive demand and make bitcoin value higher.

The shenannigans with the high fees at the end of last year (where in some cases people were paying $1000 in fees to move coins) really damaged bitcoin, and we haven't recovered from that.

It will take a couple of years for the bad memories to fade.

Bitcoin was introduced in 2008and since then its valuation has increased and to the very surprise , in the last few months of last year and specifically in the last December, its valuation has been inflated to a very great extent and that time I was also repenting that why I am not owning a bitcoin but then this year doesn’t bring any good news for bitcoin because I think valuation has been deflated to very low extent but now the good news that it has again started inflating and according to some wise economists it will further inflate in the coming months of this year.

this is perfectly inside the realms of possibility and we may very well see that happen but such rises like that are not natural. you can not expect for price to reverse up and just turn into a gigantic rally and set a new record.
of course if price currently was above $10k it could have been a different story but now that we are not, even if you agree that bitcoin is extremely underpriced, it still would take a longer time to start the engines up and gain that momentum that leads to a new ATH

That was a nightmare. Almost no one wanted to make any transactions during that time because of the high transaction fees. They were really crazy, the fees didn’t make it worth it to make a transfer. It has made others think that bitcoin would no longer progress due to those kind of fees unless a solution is made. Along with long confirmation time, bitcoin is rendered nearly useless by then. It’s a good thing it has changed for now even with a lower price.

Last year. Bitcoin price reached 19800$ is the highest price. And this year I think the bitcoin price will exceed 20,000$ when the market starts recovering. In the past 2 days, bitcoin prices have gone up positively. Believe that the market will soon recover and may break this price

Bitcoin is a long term investment and we can't expect such a surge this year! If Bitcoin grows sustainably, it will gradually go up, not peak all of the sudden and then dip more than half the value. Stay tuned with Bitcoin!

If Bitcoin can created such a spectacular reversal, then it can generate a more surprising downtrend. We shouldn't hope such a surge. Instead, a sustainable growth is better.
To answer your question, I think the scenario of sudden peak like that is impossible 'cause the signals are unclear and not very optimistic.

The current price of Bitcoin hasn't been lower that the last year low yet, but it doesn't mean this year Bitcoin will set a new peak again, because the two situation is totally different. Last year Bitcoin peaked 20k$ in no time but all of the sudden it has been slopping up to now. Investors therefore will keep more vigilant for fear of the repetition of last year scenario.
