Title: [1% Fee][P2Pool] p2pool.io - Load balanced, P2Pool cluster
Post by: Acejam on January 19, 2014, 05:31:50 AM
p2pool.io - http://p2pool.io/

To connect, simply point your miner to: p2pool.io, port 9332, and set the username as your Bitcoin address to receive payouts. You can use any password.
Code:
stratum+tcp://p2pool.io:9332 -u btc_address -p 123

Cluster Features
  • 1% Fee
  • Newark, NJ, USA Based
  • Load-balanced, high availability, P2Pool cluster
  • Variable Difficulty
  • User Defined Custom Difficulty
  • Automatic Payouts
  • Stratum Protocol Support
  • No signup required

Payment Methods
  • PPLNS
  • Payments are generation transactions. This means fresh, never before used, coins. :)

User Defined Custom Difficulty
  • To set a difficulty rate of your own choosing, simply append the desired value onto the end of your Bitcoin username. For example, to use a custom difficulty of 128, one would use the following:
Code:
stratum+tcp://p2pool.io:9332 -u btc_address+128 -p 123

    Most Common Difficulty Values
    1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048

    Background
I have setup a cluster of P2Pool instances which are all load balanced. You can now simply setup your miner to point to one domain name, one port, and you use your Bitcoin address as your username. No registration is needed, and any password will work. Just like running your own instance of P2Pool, payouts are using PPLNS so it will take a little bit of time for things to ramp up, but mining will start instantly!

The website for p2pool.io uses a fully custom API based off the native P2Pool API. This means the stats that you see on the homepage are for the entire p2pool.io cluster.

Visit and mine with us today @ http://p2pool.io

    Thanks,
    Acejam

Hi Acejam, I was testing your pool last night and my btc wallet address is 1Pcbp3KBsJuSqNCJBgqtUMXe6UjRhHB8f. I was hashing at well over 1THS for several hours but kept seeing the expected share and block times fluctuating back and forth, up and down. And I had no indication whether my work was going to be credited to me at any point, so I stopped mining there. Can you tell me whether or not my work will still be credited? I believe I was mining there for about 6-8 hours or so. Thanks for your time and considerate reply. Cheers, Gil...

Only if you got a share.  It works exactly like www.nogleg.com/doge.log (http://www.nogleg.com/doge.log), look at the share difficulties, scan for 'GOT SHARE', etc.

I really have no idea if 1TH on the p2pool network is a lot nowadays or not.  You could possibly not have gotten any shares, though...

no-submit-stale isn't a great idea, since there's still some chance that that stale could solve a block (or be a valid p2pool share)

I've been mining in this pool to test how it works. I was getting some shares, until sometime today. Even though I've mining with an avg of 47-48 Gh/s for more than a week, I am now showing "no shares yet" as predicted payout. I don't remember seen that except for the first couple of hours after I started mining. Is that normal?

P2Pool.io was recommended on Reddit earlier today. Hashrate is increasing :)

    @m3ta

See my previous post, #8 on this thread. That's why I switched to other p2pool. I would suggest you to look @ http://p2pool-nodes.info/ for a pool with 0% fee and low latency and confirm that you also have low latency against it (e.g. ping response lower than 200ms) and use that one.

Without knowing your address, I can't lookup any of your stats. What I can say that is that it's not uncommon for miners under 50-75 GH/s or so to have share trouble on P2Pool. Latency can also be an issues depending on your location.

The hash rate of P2Pool has also gone up significantly within the past 2 weeks. This can also affect your earnings.

Can you PM me your address? Did you try refreshing the page?

I have a custom backend running to combine stats of all my nodes since this is a cluster. I'm wondering if you have perhaps found a simple front-end reporting bug. It should be noted that I'm using "out of the box" P2Pool code for mining operations. I simply take the stats provided at each API and combine them. (which is what you see on the homepage)

    Hi all,

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support. p2pool.io has been making great progress in the last few weeks. We recently gained some Reddit exposure which has led to a big leap in hashrate. As a result, I have been receiving tons of PM's and messages from users. (Mostly happy!) I would encourage everyone to continue to send me their feedback - positive or negative! I want to hear it!

We are currently hovering around 15-20 TH/s, but we had a peak of 60 TH/s earlier last week. Right now we're also the top node on http://p2pool-nodes.info/.

One of my goals is to help try and get P2Pool back on to blockchain.info's pool graph. Even if we can get P2Pool back to a 1-2% share, that would be a great start!

    Thanks,
    Acejam

Thank you so much for providing this service; great work.

Quick question: Currently, the "node uptime" is 2 hours and 20 minutes. Did the service go down 2 hours and 20 minutes ago, and if so, why didn't the load balancing keep the service up and running?

Thanks again for providing such an easy way for miners to join p2pool.

    Great catch!

I recently updated the P2Pool software of each server in the cluster. Previously our uptime was 50+ days on most servers. However, that also means those servers were running code that was more than 50 days old. One-by-one, each server was taken out of the load balancer pool, updated, tested, and then put back in. I can assure you there was no downtime during this process.

The stats on the pool homepage are combined stats. However the "Node Uptime" value is not combined. Otherwise, if the entire cluster was up for 7 days, that value would read 7 days x the number of servers. Perhaps I can add support in for this to take an average value?

Thanks so much for the explanation. One quick follow up: The displayed graph shows that the hashrate fell to zero. How does that comport with there being no downtime during the upgrade?

The node operator didn't answer this so I will, p2pool issues pseudo shares.  Those shares are purely for keeping track of your hash rate and making graphs look pretty.  To get a payout from p2pool, you need to enter the p2pool sharechain which works like the btc blockchain.  The minimum difficulty share to get into the sharechain for the past month at least has been over 1m.  Actually as I'm writing this post, the current difficulty to get into the sharechain 1,197,521.57.  if you go to p2pool.io and look @ share difficulty it'll tell you what you miner needs to submit at any moment to get into the sharechain as it updates with each share that's added to keep the sharetime at 30 seconds.  So based on what I saw here, if you log showed 1.2M/1000 BAJ 0 then I'd be a little concerned, but like the bitcoin share chain, latency can play a role too. If you submit a share a second too late or the pool decides to orphan your share for another submitted at the same time, that could cause you to also be showing now shares yet.  If you look at the stats page at p2pool.io and find your address, you want your DOA% to be at or below the global pools DOA%, because that'll decrease your chances of submitting a dead share.  I hope this helped explain this.

    I completely missed this!

"The real P2Pool difficulty is hundreds of times higher than on normal pools, but p2pool essentially lies to your miner and tells it to work on relatively easy shares so that it submits shares every few seconds instead of every few hours. P2Pool then ignores any submitted shares that don't match the real share difficulty. By doing this, P2Pool can more accurately report your local hash rate and you can see if you are having problems with too many stale shares quickly".
    https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/P2Pool

Short answer: Just because your client shows "Accepted", doesn't mean the share was actually accepted as a valid P2Pool share.

Hey Acejam, thanks for all your hard work! I've been in the pool for a day or so, and I understand (somewhat) how the payouts work, at least well enough to know to be patient. I did, however, notice that the predicted payout for me seems to fluctuate up & down. Is there a reason for that, or am I just misinterpreting? Thanks again.

Edit: I suppose the better question would be, is it worth it for me to mine via P2Pool with 1.6 TH, or even 2.6 TH? Open to any help/suggestions.

Paymnent fluctuation with P2Pool is normal. If you have over 1 TH/s, I think it would be well worth your time to mine with P2Pool. Many users have tracked their progress over time and P2Pool consistently comes out on top with the highest payouts over time. However, payouts occur less often due to variance, so it's a trade off.

Sounds good! I always suggest mining on the node closest to you with the lowest latency.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Some of the daemon nodes recently got hit with a nasty DDoS attack. My firewall rules have been tweaked and I have corrected this issue. You must've hit one of the 2 nodes affected by this attack.

Thanks for the feedback, always good to understand what happens behind the scene :)

I confirm that not long after I reported the issue, everything was running smoothly again.

It would be real nice if I can see some stats especially my miners !

AND YES I AM MINING ON P2POOL.IO !

Your username (your BTC address) is improperly typed and contains a trailing period. Please remove this trailing period and the stats will work once again.

Been mining for 1 hour. I was wondering when I will get my first share? I haven't got any yet and I've been mining at over 400 Gh/s.

My bitcoin address is 1HadesyB4PPFWPzVtrkMPsEGes4pWK36sk (Yes, I used VanityGen :P)

Please could you tell me when my first share will be?

2 TH takes about 3 hours per share on average. So if you are at 1/5 that, I'm guessing you'll get about 1 share every 15 hours or so. Keep in mind shares last a while, so the startup time where you have no shares is offset by the time after you get shares but eventually stop mining, you'll still be getting paid on any blocks found before those shares expire.

Been waiting an hour for p2pool stats to update on the site but they haven't. Is there something wrong? I've increased my GH/s to 1 Th/s around that.

We are currently running bitcoind. How many users would like us to switch to BitcoinXT?

    Hello everyone,

Starting soon, we will be adding p2pool nodes for supported altcoins. Powering these nodes will be the same backend clustering technology that is behind the main p2pool.io bitcoin cluster.

Please feel free to lets us know which altcoins you'd like to see support for.

    Thanks!

p2pool.io has been updated to use jtoomim's 1mb_segwit fork. This will continue to mine against Bitcoin Core.

Litecoin P2Pool mining has also been added! You can now point your miners to ltc.p2pool.io:9327

We also have plans to add several more coins very soon. Stay tuned!
