Title: 8600 btc being offered up for sale at $5.25
Post by: smoothie on September 09, 2011, 05:43:09 PM
Can anyone say "sold too late"?

LOL

P.S. It may rebound to $5.75 after hitting like $2.75 or so.

It's just funny to see people try to panic sell their bitcoins at the last moment. :D

SR Dealer you think?

Perhaps. I still think mt. gox owner and employees should not be able to trad on their own exchange given they have inside info.

But then again...unregulated.

the best anyone can do is learn from history lol.

theres sets of stages any growth process goes through like a start up does, before getting a main attraction and then being something like apple.

Just make sure you dont end up like that 8,600 btc owner and be the guy who kept his old apple shares when they were worth nothing.

How much of an idiot this guy must look like by now? feels bad for him :(
What's a worse feeling than not being there? Being there and realizing your sold a fortune for peanuts year later.

8600@$5.25 is $45,150,00.
My guess is 95% of this forum would gladly step into that "idiot's" shoes, at least as far as money's concerned.

Indeed, 45 grand is a lot of money, but think about it, 8600@280 (current price) is 2.408.000, thats retirement money.
And that's current price, imagine if he sold at anything higher than that, if he waited he could have made almost 10 million dollars! crazy.
He should have sold 50% if he was panicking, never sold all of your BTC!

Who knows, he could have invested a few of those bucks in lottery tickets, and won 20 mil. And BTC could have zeroed out in the meantime, like dozens of alts.
Anyhow, I'm sure the guy isn't losing sleep over it, probably mined it/bought it with his lunch money, and had fun doing it.

I highly doubt that even if he did what you said his odds still lose a chance of 20 mil.

And as for anyone who has that sum of bitcoin, its only because he had so many he didnt see it a big deal if it was easily acquired which I assume back then you can pump out like 1 btc if you had a decent graphics card before the asic war.

this once again shows that patience will pay off considerably. something that may look a bad investment now will make you regret not having invested years ago.

Look at the absolute state of the story in the OP ;D
I sometimes get pissed off that I only began investing in bitcoin in late 2013 but then I look at this & it makes me smile. 8600 getting sold for 5.25 USD each. Jesus Christ, this is why I'm glad I'm a HODLER. Whoever the story in the OP is based on should be in tears constantly or dead from a broken heart ;D

I can't wait to bump farting shot threads 3 years from now. I wish there was a time machine available so I could fastforward to 3 years from now, waiting is part of the thrill but in stable periods it gets so boring. More cheap BTC for me tho.

You're not late. You're just not one of the lunatic super early adopters. You're an early adopter.
And in 5-10 years when this thread gets bumped again out of the deep you will read it again and might think that 280 was kind of cheap.
If you have some BTC then hodl it and be patient. The times of making a quick buck with Bitcoin are over. Now you have to be convinced about that technology and need a long long breath.

xD well said mate if OP sold thousands of BTC then I don't know how he could ever cope its like one of the initial investors from apple who sold his stake for 850$ which could have been worth a ciouple billion now lol

yeah but i know most arent willing to wait 4 or more years. i would of been in the same boat as the op.

I mean how does the average joe see past 4 years unless they are commited since they personally agree its a new financial innovation.

Of course see that price was few bucks in the past is great, but it can't keep skyrocketing forever, one time it will stop, and we don't know when(maybe even now)

I would not like to the a hodler when saturation is reached

I'm pretty sure that it already stopped skyrocketing.

I believe it can go back up, but not like back when mt.gox was manipulating the price points.

Like natural growth will have to come somewhere at some point when we have a bunch of VC stuff going on everywhere.

My strategy is to sell no more than 10% of a coin in a year.

So is everyone pretty much ignoring the fact that even smoothie believed Gox staff (ie, Karpeles) were selling using insider knowledge back in 2011? I think we all kind of knew, but never really commented much on it. This is a rare post where someone did.
