Title: bitcoin on movies
Post by: iamlds08 on May 27, 2018, 03:02:03 PM
i've seen a 2016 movie titled "HACKER" and also in netflix's "the heist"  dragging bitcoin as hackers money /dirty money/ bad guys money and i find it wrong because they are creating a negative connotation on bitcoin. i think it is high time to restructure the image of bitcoin on movies.
is there other movies that portray bitcoin in a protagonist side?

In the series Billions they talk about getting paid in cryptocurrency in several episodes. A hedge-fund manager got banned from trading by the government so he'll name another guy as the head of trading, direct the trades and get paid in cryptocurrency so the government can't see that.

Maybe not yet.
Because not many movie producers make a movie about bitcoin since bitcoin is not really popular in this world, so the movie industry is nor interest to make a movie about it.
Maybe it will be several movies about it when it becomes popular in the future.

another bad image for crypto because it needs a dummy name to transact. it is high time to break that image of being illegal when it comes in cryptocurrencies.

this is why there are still many people who are afraid to use digital currency. I really want to make a movie to change the image of people to digital currency and bitcoin, but I'm a director  ;D

Good topic. Its not true that movie will always show the right. A movie is made on a idea base on a specific person's thought. Which can be right or not. But its true that it is very bad to show negative sign like this. I think gentlemen will study and learn instead of believing the spam idea.

Movies does not always portray reality. It can be manipulated so it is not a good basis. But it can stir curiosity and provide awareness to the world. I saw some series who also shown ICO's, tokens and altcoins, bitcoin mining. These all provide good awareness, they may not always portray bitcoin as good but will inspire some to dig into cryptocurrency.

The serie called StartUp, put crypto, in an even worse spotlight than those Netflix movies, but it's still a good serie.

.. what it did do though, is create the hype of ICO's

yes that negative image must end for the bitcoin to be fully adopted by the masses and clear the doubt that bitcoin is scam and illegal.

Well, you know how media goes, the more sensationalized the better.

Portraying btc as a dangerous, underground thing will appeal more on an entertainment level instead of focusing on it's benefits.

A pretty funny portrayal of btc and crypto can be found in the recent season of the HBO show, Silicon Valley.
One of the characters has an automatic alarm that goes off when btc hits a certain low threshold signaling that it is no longer profitable to mine.
So he can remotely turn off his mining rig.
The alarm goes off all the time and his response is a deadpan, "Well, it is volatile."
Their company then goes on to do an ico.

The hard truth of btc is that it really isn't anything movie worthy.
Even a biopic on Satoshi would fail because there just isn't that much known about him.

Eventually, btc will be seen and accepted for what it truly is.

Actually on a teen comedy show named "Family Guy" there was actually an episode there where Lois Griffin and Peter were running out of ways to earn money then suddenly Peter Griffin which is the father of the griffins for those who don't know the show suddenly shouted "How About we use Bitcoin?", it was a very short quote that has actually led teenagers or moreso adolescents having the curiosity to know what bitcoin is and I'm sure that bitcoin has influenced not only movies but through comedic shows just like Family Guy and more.

I think for publicity or marketing there should have some movies about bitcoin. Now days we see many movies are have like treasure hunting or like stealing someone's wealth. There should some movies like people invest on bitcoin and become rich or some group want to steal bitcoin they make so many ideas but they failed etc. It will be useful and enjoyable as well.

I've never really seen Bitcoin related movies because it's not a topic that they usually make movies about. But I think in the future when Bitcoin reaches its peaks of success, it will be a topic that is popular enough to make movies about. And hopefully they create movies that show Bitcoin in a positive manner. Let's see what the future holds for this coin.

I have also watched the film and deeply regretted that bitcoin is positioned in a negative currency in the film's perspective. This also makes people's perception of not trusting bitcoin to be used in real life so after watching the movie as if all the audience is directed to hate bitcoin.

I don't think there is any movie about or is mainly focusez to bitcoon or its usage. Although, there are some shows that used or introduced the concept of cryptocurrency such as bitcoin. In fact, due to these shows, more and more people are becoming curious as to what cryptos are. PPI or Pied Piper was even created as a memw coin foe the show Silicon Valley.

but nevertheless in most cases the entire image of the crypto currency in the films is provided as High Technology, with which you can make money. One of these series is a "start-up". I think that despite the positive and negative image of the crypto currency in different information circles, all this has a positive effect on the popularity of crypto currency in the world.

I don't think there are any movies who really show Bitcoin or crypto in a positive light.
Why not? Because this is the mainstream. And their job right now is to make the average joe as much skeptical about Bitcoin & crypto as possible, to delay adoption and understanding of this technology as long as they can.

Yeah, i definitely agree, all the media does is show a bad picture of bitcoin, like the other day i was watching MR ROBOT and they brought up an episode where the bad guy is using bitcoin to do illegal activities on the dark net, i know it is kind of the truth but the influence that media had on people not trusting bitcoin is what is holding it back.

Honestly, I just don't know there is a movie about bitcoin on Netflix. Thanks to you it interest me that I tap a research on that. And you were right, it was quite disappointment that they've used the name of bitcoin to use in an illegalities, crime, etc. And that dragged the reputation down. I do hope they will make a movie where they can explain the possibilities that may give this advanced technology in our life.

that's the function of the movie, they promote what people have ordered behind it. or they just know the bitcoin industry from the dark side only. while it is interesting and can entertain the audience, why do not they use it? they are not part of this community, so filmmakers doesnt give a shit about us. but I've seen several US series that talk about bitcoin and blockchain technology objectively, the show is called siilicon valley.

I think there should be some movies or short plays for Bitcoin promotion. Because people can always remember what they see easily. More profitable to have pictures, short films, etc. for Tarera advertisement. These photos are useful in Bitcoin, Bitcoin profitable aspects, a group of people are trying to steal Bitcoin or Bitcoin wallet is hacking, but once they fail they will have to keep the pictures in such a way that the people have to keep the bitcane on them. As a result people will be interested in purchasing Bitcoin.

i've seen a 2016 movie titled "HACKER" and also in netflix's "the heist"  dragging bitcoin as hackers money /dirty money/ bad guys money and i find it wrong because they are creating a negative connotation on bitcoin. i think it is high time to restructure the image of bitcoin on movies.
is there other movies that portray bitcoin in a protagonist side?

I guess its more positive to watch. "John Wicked" staring Keanu Reeves in which bitcoin has being used as payments for the assassins this is more positive because in this movie bitcoin act as a money physically in a form of golden token,i think many of people here knows this movie since the part 3 is just soon to release this year.

Actually, there are plenty of movies about bitcoin.
I love the movie "I am Satoshi" and its a documentary movie that could help users get an idea about bitcoin and how they demonstrate the traditional banking system from the cryptocurrency that could suggest bitcoins a lot more convenient.

i do believe in publicity either good or bad, it is always a publicity. the more they treat bitcoin in an illegal role, the more people will be more curious on it because the more mysterious the thing is, the more attention it gets. i think the branding of bitcoin now is on the right track.
i also watched the BBT episode on bitcoin and i think in that episode, they have portrayed bitcoin in a good light.

I think i saw a Simpson episode where the the local bully of the town who normally take the money and the food from the kids made a poster which says that he is going to start taking their lunch money through bitcoins and he has a QR code for the Bitcoin address.

do not think in a negative way everyone knows that stuffs from movies are not real and we should feel better that someone has introduced the bitcoin in film industries and has used in some movies and i have seen them on some top youtubers channel too. I feel good that people are observing it from the stuff they like and visit most. It will take some time but for new we need their awareness no matter its good or bad. we can work with their thoughts and point of views later.

I have seen a movie in which a guy gave bitcoin as one of the options he could receive his pay for a service he was going to provide. It’s unfortunate that I can’t remember the title of the movie but it was the first time I heard about bitcoin in a movie and I was so pleased.

Someone needs to come forward and convince the film industry to put a good image of Bitcoins and crypto currency in the big screen. I've seen a movie named "Thank you for smoking (2005)". The movie shows a hint how cigarettes were highlighted by putting it in the celebrity's hand. A film or a bunch of films can make a good impression on Blockchain technology.

I am a strong believer of ANY news is good news, it generates interest. Bitcoin will be successful no matter what. Was,is and will be.

In a sense it could be a good news. People do a lot of bad publicity to gain traffic and raise interest. But I don't think this would do much good for Bitcoins. You see, it already has a lots of negative vibe floating over people's brain. Which doesn't seem like a good thing to me. Even the bitcoin users doesn't believe in blockchain. Lot of them still think it's a bubble.

Yes, I think it would be nice to make a good movie about bitcoin. But most people do not want to hear the story of how many developers are struggling to bring bitcoin as king in the market. Most people just want to see a bitcoin win, see how valuable bitcoin is when bitcoin can pay for all their needs.

yes in the movie and the real life bitcoin always be the currencies of bad people make a transaction, receive money and bad things. as we know that in deep web bitcoin is the main payemnt of the service because its untrackable, and dont know who is the receiver and the sender, after that we can see that in ransomware we need to pay with bitcoin too. i agree with you that we need to change view of bitcoin to other people

Because most people doesn't have any knowledge of it and they quickly judge it without even knowing it. Let's just advertise bitcoin as a new alternative investment that is not a ponzi scheme and most importantly not a scam. People should make blogs, vlogs and YouTube videos promoting btc as a safe haven for investment.

In the series Billions they talk about getting paid in cryptocurrency in several episodes. A hedge-fund manager got banned from trading by the government so he'll name another guy as the head of trading, direct the trades and get paid in cryptocurrency so the government can't see that.

If ever bitcoin will be on the movies. I expect that a lot of people will stir their curiousity in bitcoin world. There's a pros and cons. They'll love it or they'll hate it.

I also regret with the storyline on some of the film but if the watch is a wise person then they would think bitcoin is like a knife if used for a positive then it will be very useful, and vice versa, conventional money I think so too if we use it for a positive thing then it will be fruitful and vice versa

I prefer to watch Bitcoin Documentaries than movies because they try hype the movies so they can make ticket sells.(Banking on Bitcoin)
Here are some Bitcoin Documentaries I have watched

1.The rise and Rise of Bitcoin.
“The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” is a film that documents the journey of the bitcoin. It covers all the events of bitcoin that have made headlines.
2.The Bitcoin Story
This was the very first documentary I watched. It is a depiction of all the conversations around the founding of bitcoin. The conversations delve into the core technologies around it, the politics surrounding it, and the ability of bitcoin to transform the financial sector. It also features the opinions of venture capitalists.
3.The History of Bitcoin
This is a time-based description of the history of the revolutionary software. It shows the use and revolution of the currency from its inception to the present day.
4. The Bitcoin Gospel
This is documentary I would recomemend for someone who is a beginner in the Crypto world. This Dutch film starts with a bitcoin angel investor known as Rodger Ver. He explains how the currency works. The movie basically follows the life of Rodger Ver, who has dedicated his life to advocating for the use of bitcoin. It also gives insight into the world of mining for bitcoins in China.

Oh my favorite! Big Bang theory last year, the series number 9 of the eleventh season of the popular Comedy TV series was called the Bitcoin Entanglement.

The first appearance of cryptocurrency on blue screens was recorded in 2012 in the CBS series "Good wife". And away we go…

Bitcoin, as well as its mention, can be found in the series "Almost a man". There, however, the first cryptocurrency is presented in the form of a large flash drive. And also in the series "Simpsons", "Mr. Robot", "black list", "Blind spot" and others.

Yes does not always describe reality. This can be manipulated so it does not become a good foundation. But it can arouse curiosity and give awareness to the world. I see some series that also show Ico, tokens and Altcoin, Bitcoin mining. All this gives a good awareness. I do not know the film depicting Bitcoin on the side of the protagonist. most films explain Bitcoin used for crime. according to these phylumes make people think negative about Bitcoin.
