I'll keep it quick, but here's the rant/vent: have a job with crappy pay with no stress-->recently graduated from college-->economy is bad-->don't want to work a crappy job but I'm desperate-->love blogging and web appy stuff but it's made no money so far-->so in three minutes I will start calling and "making connections"-->will be lying about my enthusiasm all day about joining a "professional work environment"-->you guys here are my moral support through these terrible times.

I think there's a difference between a whore working for herself and a whore looking for a pimp to let her work. You seem to be doing the latter, like most workers.

I hope things get better for you during these times.

Considering, if done correctly, being an "escort" can be a safe, fulfilling (and monetarily rewarding) job, it's worth looking into. Seriously if you are a pretty women (or, less demand for, a pretty man), know basic self-defense, and are willing to accept that you aren't really selling* your body, try and find out more.

Good luck with the job hunting if you do desire a white-colour office job in preference to that option.

Importantly, you'd have to avoid a pimp. Perhaps join a worker owned brothel.

Why? Who says you'd have to avoid a pimp? In essence, they merely provide protection to prostitutes in exchange for some amount of money. In fact, you could say that the prostitute is the employer and the pimp is the employee, in which case, prostitutes should be extra careful not to exploit their pimps. In fact, they should probably become partners with the pimp and split everything 50/50.

I don't see how an employer is always an exploiter. Essentially, you are just indirectly paying him extra to facilitate your job. If you wish to avoid such a fee, facilitate yourself. It's that simple.

I think I may have a question that proponents of the Labor Theory of Value can't answer.

I am a carpenter and I construct a chair. I sell the chair for 25 BTC to someone. If they turn around and sell that chair to someone else for 50 BTC, have they exploited me?

It as saying I voluntarily work for him for 25 BTC per chair, and allow him to take a 25 BTC fee, or profit.

Could you manage to sell the chair for 50 BTC yourself without the facilitator? If so, why work for him? If you can't, your employer is only benefiting you with a higher pay you couldn't otherwise gain.

Things went well.  Two interviews coming this week at places that I wouldn't mind working.

As I look back at my rant, I think it was making calls and going to meet people that got me anxious.  I was just looking for an excuse for the way i felt.  In reality, working for more money is always a good thing.  And I can still do my own thing on the side.

Not sure if I'm such a proponent, but here goes.

If you are excluded from the market on which the person sells it, even by your own foolishness, he is exploiting you. Now, if he works to make the sale possible, by advertising the chair you've built, for example, he deserves a share of the sale price. Of you and him ought to determine the size of this share in the course of a discussion between equals rather than him simply assigning to a wage. Also, he should have no power to direct you as you build the chair. Such an arrangement is cooperation, not employment.

You can also consider an employer as a king. You must submit to his will in order to use his property and he enforces the relationship with violence. Why overthrow the present government just to submit to a king?

Individual employers aren't so bad when you have bigger badder exploiters to deal with, like government, corporations, loan sharks....
