Title: Bitcoinsports.eu Bit365 SCAM Discussion Thread
Post by: jumex19 on January 30, 2014, 02:19:30 AM
Since Bit365 closed the discussion thread I wanted to open a thread to discuss his promised payouts.  https://etherpad.mozilla.org/MZ3eG4apz2 (https://etherpad.mozilla.org/MZ3eG4apz2) is the list of payouts from the past few months.  I am owed 53btc and have waved the profit.  I have not heard from bit365 since January 2nd where he estimated he would "recover" enough funds to pay me my full investment by January 16th.

Please update this thread with any payouts or contact.

I bet you that the link to the previous thread would be most helpful here, given that this thread is a continuation of an older thread that Bit365 has closed.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=142101.0

Brief History

1. November, bitcoin hit 1200
2. Bitcoinsports.eu became illiquid
3. FUD
4. The coins were lost (the private keys)
5. No one has/had docs on Bit365
6. He changed his email address, and removed the link to the thread from his website
7. He closed the thread itself.
8. People are still owed plenty of money!

He was paying smaller payouts to keep the image of a legit site. I've been waiting for 3 months for a small payout.

Scammer for sure!

A lot of people are owed for their signatures too, but I guess that's not as important over the outstanding bet money.

The weird thing is that he is online pretty much every day. Most scammers just take the money and dissapear. I wonder why he is still around.

Isn't that weird?  It seems like that would increase the chances that someone who's owed 50 BTC will track him down...and make him pay.

I think bit365 will pay everyone who is owed.
the question is. WHEN
in 4 years?

I still don't think that he started the site with intention to scam. (Yes, I realize the people who get scammed usually rationalize just like this.. "I trusted the site and I'm too smart to get scammed, so it cannot possibly have been a scam." ;) ) The site was quite weak from technical point of view with slow payouts, timeouts with bets... Seemed like it required lot of manual work, but it seemed like he was trying to make it work. The investment feature was great and I think there was potential for "just-dice"-like growth with that feature. I did two investments on the site: 1 btc that was paid back in October and 10 btc that has been unpaid since early November.

It's possible he just lost the btc in October/November somehow; there certainly were a lot of opportunities to lose btc during that time. Assuming he really lost the coins somewhere he should have just been honest and open about it, instead of coming up with nonsensical explanation of technical problems and continuing to pay random small investments and bets. Maybe he hoped someone would lose a big bet on the site. If he wants to continue the site without being accused of scamming and grow the site, he just needs to do normal "Chapter 11"-like deals about payment schedules and try negotiate to his debts down.

After removing the link to the thread from the site and finally closing the thread here (just before major sport betting events) while not answering pm:s or emails, it does look like he has finally changed the sites business model to full scamming.

This might be a good example of the difference between a sportsbook and a casino.

A casino is pretty much a license to print money, unless there are some technical problems with the software or you are giving away too much in bonuses you will theoretically always make money whenever a customer makes a bet.

In a sportsbook you might have a great liquidity and a full department that actively manages the risk, but still lose money. If you are just copying the odds of someone else and don't do any risk management yourself you are just gambling, only with slightly better margins than the customers.

If you are investing in a sportsbook that you are not 100% sure is professionally run you are basically giving your money to somebody else and asking them to gamble with the money.

I agree with you...I'm sure he didn't want to take our BTC and run but why not be honest and say you lost the coins? Why come on and say everyone will be paid in 2 weeks and nothing happens? Why log in almost daily without saying something?!?

Now a major sporting event is coming up and thread closed to hide the fact he just doesn't pay....if it smells like a scam and taste like a scam it's gotta be a scam!

Looks like a pretty scammy situation.

Needs to be blown up and the person identified because thats a lot of btc unaccounted for.

They might not start off with the intention to scam, but risky investments or business practices might leave them out of pocket somewhere down the line and thus to default on payments might be their only option.

I pm'd him again asking for another update on my 26btc balance owed. http://www.bitcoinsports.eu/inv/67440

The last I heard via pm was the same kind of 2 week estimate in late dec.

For anyone who is owed 1 BTC or more in payment, please speak up and post when you receive payment.

I'm still owed 4.2 btc from http://www.bitcoinsports.eu/inv/98926. I've PMed multiple times but no answer

If he's really running a true scam the investment option would probably still be left on the off chance that someone will still deposit. Somehow he lost the money and now I think he's trying to win them back.

Do you think he has opened up another sportsbook under a different name for seconds? Clearly most should not be dumb enough to get burned a second time.

Have PM'd bit365 with the investment details again. Owed BTC8

i still maintain a sliver of hope that he is going to make good on his debts... I probably shouldn't but i can't help it - the eternal optimist

A small partial payment isn't evidence of this not being a scam. He has to do a lot more than that to get my good will back. And closing threads full of unhappy investors doesn't help.

I haven't even wasted my time PM'ing him about my cashout. I only have about .5 btc on the line, so I can wait behind others for now. But I sure as hell won't be betting again until I get my cashout.

Looks like bit has paid me 2 BTC in two separate 1 BTC payments. Still owed 9 BTC.  Seems odd that i'm getting this before the timeline he expressed, but its a start. Anyone else receive a 1 BTC down payment on their owed balance?

Just to inform you guys that he is such a LIER. Right one month ago this is what he pm'd me "Hi cityofgod, I believe enough BTC can be recovered to pay your bet in full by the end of February. I hope this timetable acceptable for you. Please let me know". and guess what ? It's the 28th of February and he still owes me 1.73 BTC which I guess is not a great deal for him but he still hasn't paid me yet. This guy just keeps making false promises which he can't even keep. I hope he gets caught for what he has done. This is unacceptable.

Making small payments on a personal debt can buy you time.  It prevents people from getting very mad and trying to take you to court, get more info about you, and spread the word of what you did to the general public.  Over time, people also get weary and are liable to forget/forgive debts.  Just look in this thread how many people were owed one amount and settled for 1/2-1/3rd that amount.  That's pure profit for Bit365.  Also after a long period of time people think "well it's been so long, there's nothing I can do now".  It's pretty common for people to be strung along with small payments.

The problem is, it also looks the same as if someone was getting periodic payments (paycheck, ad revenue, ect) and was legit trying to make good on the debt.

Same here except I only have 2 out of 52 btc.  Bit365 said he hoped to have 10 out of the 53 by the end of feb.  1 is still better than 0, but I am still disappointed and upset.

Hi BobGriffin3,

I estimate enough BTC can be recovered to repay 6 BTC by the end of February, with the rest in portions over the following few weeks. I hope this time table is acceptable for you.

Please let me now.

Message from last month, I still have seen nothing. Owed 26btc since November. I should be at the top of the queue of people paid back. What gives? I've been nothing but patient.

I also talked with BIT365 about one of three investment (total 9 BTC)that should have been paid in full like two week ago, but havent got any partial so far.

But i have still respect for the site that it is obvilus that they try to compensate as good as they can, and i buy the story about lost access to cold storage.
Cant see why they should pay any if it were a scam so i still belive thet have the best intention.

Still i hope that i am on the upper half of the bunch to get some partial payment, as i cant get hold of bit365 i am putting my three investment links here and will write as soon that i receive any part from them.

Ok, it appears as though he's paying. "Trickling" might be a more appropriate word. But can we blame him if no one is gambling on his site?

I would like opinions from other users about whether we want to "cut this guy a break" and begin placing wagers again. This is an advance of trust, to be sure! I'm not naive. But obviously, no one will get paid, if there is nothing to pay FROM.

Bit365's communication is abysmal. His customer support is through the floor. But he is trustworthy, even though he needs a ton of nagging.

Evidence for Bit365's trustworthiness:

1) Uhh... he could have pulled the plug on the site very easily.
2) He said bitcoinsports.eu was never a scam and will never be a scam. (This needs constant re-evaulation.)
3) He seems to be actually reading the scam thread. BobGriffin3 complained (justifiably) in this thread and got a payment less than an hour later.

What do you guys think?

Has he been paying wagers? We could agree to start placing smaller wagers again. What do you think? (If you don't want to reply publicly, you can PM me.)

I'm happy to report I just received 1 btc from bit365. I do believe now he is trying his best to pay back everyone and that he is not scamming us.

I agree with with jj30, maybe we should start betting again. Trust is everything in this business, and when/if bit365 pays everyone back, his betting site could really prosper. I do hope his communication will improve and that he should be more open and honest with us. Sort of what busoni from poloniex did - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499580.0 and not what karpeles did in mtgox situation.
I'm pretty sure the community will help bit365, if he is open with us.

Folks, if you have to complain loudly in order to get a small amount of "shut up" money (that is only a small percentage of the money owed to you), that is not "trying his best to pay back everyone".  If he was actually trying his best, you'd have gotten paid BEFORE you started openly complaining.

I have now also recived a partial payment, and remain positive and understanding. As i said even if many people are upset and thinking scam, for me that is for me proven that the owner really doing all he can to stick to his word.

And i buy the whole story about the lost access to funds in cold storage anything also wood make no sense, so creed for them in a btc-world full of real scammers.

The site has turned into another Full Tllt/Ponzi scheme. If you're making bets there he might just use that to pay off the other people he owes.... dangerous.

Also if you give him sports action of course it helps the site:  IF YOU LOSE.  If you win the book still has to pay out...

Just found this thread. Same story. www.bitcoinsports.eu/bet/63398

Received the messages from bit assuring me I would be paid in full and asking if the end of February was an acceptable time table. I was gullible enough to believe that I would get my 7.6btc back but lo and behold the end of the month has come and gone and once again bit is no longer responding to my messages. It is encouraging to hear that some of you are getting paid back however. Hopefully I will see that as well.

Orangewebsite may have the indentity, and it is almost certain the Telus has the identity (which they can likely determine from associated ip address 23.16.65.184).  While they are unlikely to release any customer information, if anyone were to open an investigation or file a report with authorities they could acquire it.

Though I don't want to get too hasty, I still believe Bit365 is trying to make investors whole.

That's gotta be sarcasm, right?

Anyway, since everything is technically in the open (via the blockchain) couldn't a good forensic accountant trace the transactions until the coins get "cashed out"?  If you guys are serious about attempting to get some restitution, it may be a good idea to pitch in and hire a FA to try to figure it all out.

I'm just curious, when he pays you a small percentage of the money that he owes you, does he make the payment conditional on you posting laudatory things about the payment?  It seems like something he'd do.

Always be careful in joining any bitcoin casino website to prevent getting scammed. If you are unsure about the website’s legality and reliability, look for its reviews or ask others about their experience about the site. Also, see to it that you read the entire terms and condition before hitting the submit button. For a bitcoin casino website, it is always best to go for a website with 100% provably fair system.

Bit365 response to one of my inquiries about not being paid by deadline he gave:

"I obviously wasn't able to meet those deadlines but I feel I will be able to send another 1 btc paymen t within a week, then continuous 1 btc payments every few weeks as before."

I will confirm if I receive the 1 btc within a week.   It would seem, as hypothesized before, that the original BTC in cold storage was lost for good and all outstanding payouts are being paid from ongoing profits from the website.  The intent still seems to be to pay out everyone who is owed.

Sorry to say this, but I think you're a little too hopeful that Bit65 is actually going to do anything about this, he's already made his dash some months ago and has stopped responding to anyone - so it would be safe to assume he's sipping a martini on a random island. Tough lesson to learn is to never trust anyone - the worst scams have been the long cons.

Hi Bit,

I doubt you remember me. I was owed 7.6 btc from betting on your site many years ago. Obviously that is a life changing amount of money now. I was hoping you would consider helping me out. I'm getting married this year and if you could find it within you to pay this (or part of this) back, I would be forever grateful.

I'm assuming I won't hear back, but I truly hope you consider this. I have no ill feelings towards you and have forgiven you completely for this. I wish you the best moving forward, and hope you a lifetime of happiness.
