WU is roughly a measure of used hashrate, same as shares submitted successfully. So... do everything you'd normally do to increase hashrate and shares while ensuring you have no (or very close to no) HW errors and are not having latency issues with the pool you're mining on.

A pool with high server-side share difficult is going to give you a higher variance in your WU and it's normal for it to fluctuate a bit. It's said WU will generally equal 90-95% of hashrate in good conditions.

thank you for the reply

i see my WU fluctuate in solo mining. i understood that after a few hrs my WU will be more stable. but truth is that it is still random. No i have not stood there and see it for hrs , but at every time i go to check i see it moving up and down 200/m . mostly down. that's why i wanted to know if i did anything wrong.

my setting is typical 1080/1500  HW=0  and the hash is mostly stable

Q: What should my Work Utility (WU) be?
A: Work utility is the product of hashrate * luck and only stabilises over a
very long period of time. Assuming all your work is valid work, bitcoin mining
should produce a work utility of approximately 1 per 71.6MH. This means at
5GH you should have a WU of 5000 / 71.6 or ~ 69. You cannot make your machine
do "better WU" than this - it is luck related. However you can make it much
worse if your machine produces a lot of hardware errors producing invalid work.

That's taken from the Bitcoin mining readme; scrypt, you're aiming for 0.9 of your hashrate.

thanks. My WU are never stable. some time they reach 1000 and sit there for hrs
