According to your logic chess, poker, pool and many other low physical activity sports aren't sports. It is a sport as long as it is competitive and there are many people willing to compete in it and get better at it. Another important part is that it needs to have a high skill ceiling and be fun to watch. E-Sports has sports in the name dude

I'd say yes, it takes hand eye coordination in combination with reaction time and thinking ability.  Less physical than other sports, but people consider shit like bowling a sport.  I'd say it's fine to consider it a sport.

Def sport.

1) There are teams or 1vs1
2) There are coaches involved
3) leagues/tournaments/champions
4) Money
5) sponsors

The only thing that is missing you can say is the physical aspect. But then again playing 8-10 hours a day to hone your skills is physically AND mentally demanding.

They require certain skills just like in sports, but they only require you to use your upper body.

Before saying something please know the origin and meaning of sport

sport (n.)
early 15c., "pleasant pastime," shortening of disport "activity that offers amusement or relaxation; entertainment, fun" (c. 1300), also "a pastime or game; flirtation; pleasure taken in such activity" (late 14c.), from Anglo-French disport, Old French desport, deport "pleasure, enjoyment, delight; solace, consolation; favor, privilege," related to desporter, deporter "to divert, amuse, please, play"

So video games do this role perfectly

video game can be regarded as a sport, the only attribute not present here is physical exertion.
but then looking at it critically, there is a form of physical exertion between the eyes and the hand which enables a quick eye-to-hand response and reaction

Video games should not be a sport. First sport  require physical activity, moving your hand all day and starring at a screen is not a sport.
The Oxford Dictionary says that sport is "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." Video games certainly do involve physical exertion. It's usually not as much as in soccer, for example, but it is there. How can you draw the like? Is golf a sports? Is darts a sport? Archery? The most involve standing in one place and launching something away from you. You could say that they don't involved that much physical exertion. They certainly do involve it though and they are sports. I like to qualify videos games as cybersports, when they are play on a high competitive level.

I personally am not a big gamer, however I believe that some video games could be considered a sport. But what makes sport a sport? Physical activity? Chess is also considered a sport, but you don't have to put much physical effort into it. Things that make sport a sport is partially the competition, the fanbase, and the tense (interesting, and maybe a bit stressful) moments. The idea of winning and passion is a big part of the sports world as well. I think that gaming and e-sports have the same thing as for example other high sports leagues.

Sport does not require physical activity , now there are sports that only brain and strategy is the key to a victory. Just like online games they prefer it now to be a sport because the key is strategy and fast hands , billiard also is a sport that does not require physical , its the cue itself and handles of a stick to win a game and also it takes strategy to win.

Definition of "Sport:" an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

I think Virtual Reality Video games where you use haptic suits etc. definitely falls under that category. Only going to evolve into life-like experiences, but I'm not sure the sports will be simple recreations of modern-day sports. If physics don't apply, new sports will become popular. Quiddich, gladiator fights..

Yes. You are right that per country has their own representative teams to battle and play video games. Do you think that it can be considered as a job ?
In my own opinion, since video games can be considered as a sport because it is also called a e-sport or games that can be played through online and using a computer or other gaming console, It can now be considered a job because they played in different countries just to compete with different teams for them to win a million dollars prize. Sports is not only consider by physicality because even our mind act for every sporting that we been doing, and since whe that video gams dont use physical?

We use fingers and hands when playing games in video games and sometimes we even do body movements and the most special part is our eyes and brain so wasnt this a sport?

Yes, I consider any form of competition a sport.  You still need to practice and compete.

Yes, some e-sports take more skill than traditional.

In the next 50 years, there will be more people playing e-sports daily than hockey. (I think there already is)

I totally agree with you. It is the matter of time. After 50 years, there will be more people who play video games. Today you can choose a game for every taste. For example, I play in Fortine and even got myself a game setting from famous gamers https://fortnitesettingspro.com (https://fortnitesettingspro.com)
That’s why people nowadays are not physically fit like what we are before because people are more engaged in gadgets and computers, there’s no more interaction to others and only play and enjoy playing while sitting on the couch or laying in bed

What will happen to the world after 50 years that you’ve said?we won’t even reached age of 59 because of health issues

If we are to based on the definition of sport, video games shouldn't be considered one. Because on different definitions I've searched it commonly says involving physical athleticism, which video games don't have. However, without considering the definitions it should. Video have many benefits. That is on moderate playing. What's wrong with our generation is abusing everything that's why something new in our era looked and considered bad by the older generations. But Video games should be beneficial and must be considered as a sport category. At least for me.

Video games should not be a sport. First sport  require physical activity, moving your hand all day and starring at a screen is not a sport.
I love video games so I definitely considered the video game Need some experience and also talent involved in it if we don't have any talent to play with game then we will not win this is the same thing followed by the sports also so I definitely consider it as Sports.

Throw golf and race car driving in there as well, not much athleticism needed, mostly just brain power.

Little bit you are right, but may be most of the people not agree with you, because they consider every game in a sports, so doesn't matter it is video games or not.
But i am fully agree with you, personally, i against video games, because every time kids are playing it and in this wise they gain their weight and also their physical activities are very less, and they become lazy. So in this point wise, we should courage our kids to play sports instead of playing video games.

Sports is competition. Competition that can be played for fun, or at a professional level. So in that sense it's a sport.

Then again so is something like chess. Is chess considered a sport?

I'm really tired of this discussion. Traditionally, no, video games i not sports, but the setup and players have definitely developed into a serious sport and athletes.
