Japanese Cryptocurrency exchange Bitbank has made an announcement to commence BTC-USD, a Bitcoin borrowing program. The idea has been developed to engage more new customers along with enhancing additional foreign exchange.

Wow this is really an innovative strategy to promote bitcoin. Bitcoin has relatively gone so far on its mileage of achievement though there are many critics on it but still bitcoin continue to strive and prove its worth. Well i had enough loan on bank and i am not qualified on this even if they offer it outside on their country.

Exchanges in Japan looks like banks, they applied KYC and AML regulations, so using a loan in BTC seems very similar when you use a normal bank's loan. The difference is that if you don't have incomes in BTC, you can have a problem with the exchange rate (e.g. if the BTC price goes to the moon, you have to pay back much more in fiat compared to the amount you have received in the beginning)

It is a creative idea to promote bitcoin

it's a good idea and I like the programs because at least we can announce bitcoin to many people so they can try to get involved with bitcoin. and I think with this program, bitcoin can grow more especially in Japan and I hope that there is any similar program in another country. but still, it is better to give an explanation about bitcoin by teaching the people and let them invest their money directly.

based on this, their name (BitBank) and reading about them it seems like they are really trying to become a real bank but a bitcoin bank, maybe the first of its kind. it would be interesting to see how that turns out to be like though in a couple of years for instance. the first established bitcoin bank offering all kinds of services that a bank offers: loans, accounts with profit when you make a deposit, safety deposit boxes for storing your valuable physical stuff like paper wallets so it can even take smaller place, debit cards,...

all of it is still against bitcoin and its decentralization but it would be interesting to see how it turns out.

Maybe it will be easier for them to operate a bank than we think now.
When average joes will get in touch with bitcoin for the first time, they won't be comfortable with handling their own finances (have to store bitcoin safely, have to secure their IT stuff to increase the safety of their bitcoin, etc...), and if there will be a solution (a bitcoin bank) which does the same with bitcoin than other regular banks do with their fiat money, they won't think much and will use the bank.
People are not accustomed to handle their own money nowdays, it needs education and practice...

This is kinda unfair.I wish the companies,who offer bitcoin loans to include something like a discount agreement attached to the loan contract.For example,if I borrow a 1 BTC loan and the bitcoin price increases by 50% I will payback 0.5 BTC+the loan interest rate.This will boost bitcoin adoption for sure.

Japan has adopted strict rules to restrict the encrypted currency market.
So there are actually very few tokens that can be traded in Japan. ;D

Let's say you have some bitcoins (e.g. 2 bitcoins which equals about $12,000 nowdays) and you want to give out loans.
First, you give out 1 bitcoin for someone. You sign an agreement that he will pay back only 0.5 bitcoin if the price goes up 50%.
Let's say the price moved up 50%. If you hadn't given out the loan, you would have got 2 bitcoins (worths e.g. $18,000)
Becasue you signed that the borrower needs only to pay back 0.5 bitcoin, in the end you'll end up with 1.5 bitcoin (worths $13,500 plus a little interest).
It doesn't seem a great deal for me to give out a loan with these kind of conditions...

borrowing is a cool system to attract people to crypto, especially from highly regulated crypto exchange like the ones in japan are. Very excited times in crypto are ahead of us :)

Its good but just hope some will not mis use the opportunity of the decentralized stuff by borrowing and failed to repay..

I had initially had my doubts about any service providers wanting to offer a lending service in crypto because of the issue of KYCs as those that have done that in the past are nothing to write home about due to the outcome of such service. But reading the through how they propose to achieve it, I am impressed at the mechanism put in place to achieve the desired result. The focus on strict account checking is one that is commended in that if you value your privacy so much, don't bother try to apply for the loan. Another is the interest they are promising on people who make deposits of 5BTC which is 3%. I feel that is something that can work compared to those who will promised ridiculous returns for lending your funds to in-existent customers.

This is good because it will encourage more of their citizens to join the use of blockchain technology by taking the opportunity and sees the benefits of the use..

Agree, in real life you will borrow a capital to start your business in real life, then this comes you can loan bitcoin to start also an online business or trading which could help you a lot. This is great idea to attract more people into bitcoin and also to engage more in the bitcoin. This is the best opportunity to the borrower to get profit from it. The use of a loan in BTC seems very similar when you use a normal bank loan. That's a good idea and I like the program because at least we can tell bitcoin to many people so they can try to join the bitcoin. This is one way of getting the name out of crypto to the public but there are some risks in this kind of business for btc value is very volatile. I know that people in Japan are very trustworthy so no problems with the paying time of the lenders. The only thing that is the problem is the value of bitcoin which is very unpredictable. If someone will loan 1btc for just $5k and suddenly after a month the BTC will increase its value 2 times then the one who loaned it will be paying double for a BTC loan. This is the risk when it comes to loaning BTC.

you are getting a loan in "Bitcoin" not in "fiat" so why should you pay it back based on its fiat value? also would you pay back 2BTC+interest if the price fell down 50%? since it can go both ways.
in my opinion, like any loan you should only consider how much you took in BTC not in fiat and then pay back that in BTC and that is completely fair. besides people usually take these loans to trade with so they are making profit on the bitcoin they took and in the future price will be a lot more stable so all this wouldn't matter.

If this is true, then this is a terrible idea. People are already knee deep into debt and now they need to take loans on something that are very volatile.  ??? I should think that the loan is only applicable on the fiat capital that were funded at the time of the transaction, by the Bank. <So on the date of the loan, you buy $10 000 worth of bitcoins and you only pay back that amount and not the increased value of those bitcoins>

You would be stupid to pay back a loan on the basis that the loaned amount increased based on the price of Bitcoin. Last year the price increased by 800%+

This is the very innovative idea for promoting bitcoin and really interesting if this kind of loan give peoples more confident to invest in bitcoins and they easily understand cryptocurrency if this type of exchange come again and start this kind of service then will be very good for bitcoin and cryptocurrency future.

So crpto exchanges are now thinking of working as a bank I see! I mean that's the basic methodology of a bank. Are they accepting deposits as well from the public or they are just lending the money they are earning from the exchange?? It is particularly good because it will help the adoption rate of bitcoin and increase the cash flow into the system. Which is really needed for the sustainability of bitcoin in long run.

I don't know about this idea because I never borrow bitcoin from another people or another third service. it is better to keep trying to earn bitcoin from many ways than to borrow because I think I cannot pay that bitcoin if somehow, I am losing much money. but if this is a good idea for many people then they can try this service and I hope that they can still make a profit and don't forget to pay the money you borrowed.

I never underestimate Japan. For me, Japan is the strongest country. Japan will in the future be the number one economy in the world when Japan knows that Bitcoin is the future of this country.

They lend you one Bitcoins  if they can see from you history that you’re a trader with a big volume, the Bitcoins you lend can only be trade on their platform, where they get a small commission each time you do a trade, you can’t withdraw anything before you have paid them back first.
A number of stock tracings platform already do this with loans for stock trading.
I think this option is a good thing for their customers, but I’m not sure I would lend Bitcoins to go trade with them.

Innovative idea, although it has some disadvantages.
First: exchange rates, as banks/exchanges should exchange fiat in crypto and issue loans afterwards.
Second: High volatility will result in high interest rates.
Third: Collateral - what will be requested as collateral? real estate? or crypto coins? This will have influence on interest rate as well.

Or, if you trade with loss, (if you use margin, for example...) and you have a margin call and your whole deposit is gone, you can pay back all the bitcoins you have borrowed from your fiat income (and if the exchange rate goes up, you will pay back much more than you borrowed...

Well, since it is from Japan, I think that it'll be successful, not only because the project is made by Bitbank, but to also think that they are very clever and witty about this, Bitcoin loan is very unique, there are lots of theories about it and now they are making it happen, BTC-USD is a great form of loan, hopefully this comes out well.

Using Bitcoin as a loan, is it a great option or stupid? If Bitcoin goes down, it would be great for the borrowers, and if it goes up, I believe the banks will make a significant profit. But surely Bitcoin will not go down, and it will come up, it's a great option.

I don't see it practical as for some of the time period the borrowed Bitcoin will be locked so can't do any activity with it, at least not trade. Those who are thinking that they will borrow on easy terms of BTC-USD pay back for trading purpose, this idea don't worth them. For some of the people like escrow it may work.
But honestly speaking I don't like the idea of paying back into fiat, in both the cases if price goes up or down the only beneficiary will be bitbank.

Cryptocurrency loan through exchanges in a regulated manner makes the usage of bitcoin more effective. When loans were provided in the form of more people who haven't known about bitcoin will come to know about it. Such a service in Japan is not a big thing as it is already a major supporting country of cryptocurrency.

It is a great initiative. It is always good to be the first to begin. Maybe, if this turns out to be a successful one, it will enhance most traditional banks to adopt Btc as well. But I think they need to implement more feasible policies to handle the volatility in btc prices and with that, they are good to go.

I think that's a good sign. Trust in bitcoin is growing, even banks began to use it in their activities, which means bitcoin is developing and it has a great future.

Although this is a great idea, you need to think how you can repay your loan especially if you are hard to make a profit from the crypto. We need to think about this because they will do many ways to make sure that we can pay them and I think you don't want to get into trouble because of that loan, right? So it is better to think twice before you want to use the loan so you can have another balance for anything you want. Make sure that you have a way to pay back the money at the end of the time.

I think it's a good idea to attract more people into bitcoin and also to be more involved in bitcoin. Logically in real life, you will borrow capital to start your business, while lending bitcoin to start an online business or trading that can help you a lot.

I think this is not the most profitable loan that can be, because its price changes every day and if a person took a loan when he stood at$ 6,000 and he suddenly grows to$60,000.

i dont know, i never check it before. but its good if someone want to trade but he dont have any fund. its the best way to promote bitcoin itself. many people.can try it, but i dont know if someone loss their fund and maybe the can loss too.

I think loans are pure evil and how will I pay it back, I mean what if I took 1 BTC loan for a year and the price drops heavily what amount do I payback? the bitcoin amount or the USD dollar amount :D

It is great and I really like the concept but if you consider bitcoin's high volatility it is a major problem that we should think twice when applying a loan  because in a way it maybe convenient for crypto community members but during price increases there is a high risk involvement when paying back the received amount so I think there are both cons and pros in the above
