Title: *HELP* I need to ''sign btc address'' with coinb.in (will give btc for help)
Post by: Jlle on June 13, 2018, 02:14:45 PM
I need to do the following. I'm true noob at this. The instructions were ''sign btc address'' so that I can prove I'm the owner of the wallet.
I also need to include a message with the signing.

How can I do this? I found other tutorials but not one using the coinb.in..  ???

I also know how to do this with Electrum but don't know how to import my Coinb.in wallet address, so I cant do this in Electrum.

I have tried to learn this but since English is my 3rd language it's very hard to find and follow a tutorial how to do this.

I will give small amount of BTC to someone who can solve my problem, leave your wallet address with your advice  :)

Coinb.in wallet offers bech32 addresses (addresses starting with bc1), P2SH addresses (addresses starting with 3) and legacy addresses. Which one are you using?

If you're using an address starting with bc1 or P2SH, you're out of luck. I don't think there is any standard of signing messages with them. If you're using legacy, go to Keys and press Show beside the private key. Copy the whole key out and go to the sign tab and paste your private key in the corresponding space and type your message.

Yeah. Go to Keys and copy the private key out. Go to Electrum and create a new wallet. Select "Import Bitcoin private keys or addresses" and key in this:
Code:
p2wpkh-p2sh:L5TxvEy6YyC
.

You must replace the L5T... with your own private key.

you can't sign message with P2SH (3...) address :-X
for what purpose you need to 'sign and prove' your ownership of the wallet?
there's another way around to do that but I'm not sure if whoever asked for it willing to accept this method
by making transaction using inputs from your P2SH and 1... legacy address, then sign a message with the legacy address
it will show by logic the owner of that 1... address is also the owner of that P2SH address
