Title: Merit abuse. 50+12 merits received within 1 day and 1 minute.
Post by: kruglikov on June 19, 2018, 09:45:23 PM
On June 10 User 1miau https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2143453 received 50 merits (33+17) from a mod of a German board phantastisch https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=18312 for a topic called  ‹bersetzungs-Spam gefunden? Hier kŲnnt ihr ihn berichten (Translation = Found a translation spam ? Here you can report it.) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.msg39318850#msg39318850 Also he received 12 merits within 1 minute on June 14 for the same topic from the user qwk https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24140. I think this is a record for merits giveaway from two profiles to a single profile in that short period of time for a REGULAR TOPIC. This people are either fiends or 1miau is just their alt account, that is pushed to Full Member status via merit abuse. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=2143453

OP, please have a look again, who gave me the Merits and for which posts! There is no merit abuse or are you jealous?

I think it's a hard accusation to say the German Mod or qwk (a legendary registered in 2011) are Merit abusers.

And regarding yourself: do we have tagged a google-translate spam of you? Fine! This is how the topic should work!

It's very strange: today a russian guy entered the translation thread complaining about his shady translate ANN was deleted. His complaints are written in worst german translated with a translation tool. There is nothing wrong to report ANN translated by Google Translate or similar to the Mod. We make a list of abusers and so everyone gets to know them. This will be more easy to find them faster.

I don't know if you are an alt of Curare (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2159516 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2159516)) or why are you so interested in the German section? Have some translate-spam there?!  :D

Nobody cares who they are an when are they registered. All of us are following forum rules here.  You received 33 and 17 merits in one day (June 10) for a just a regular topic. There was nothing  special in that post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.msg39318850#msg39318850 And on June 14 you received 12 merits in the same topic within ONE MINUTE 10.42; 10.42; 10.43; 10.43; 10.43 https://imgur.com/a/k6B1cXW That actions are clear merit abuse and you must be red tagged for that. P.S I never participated in any translation company.

Do you understand the german posts there? If not:

33 Merits were given for the entry post about how to find translation-cheaters using Google Translate or similar. In addition I've launched a transparent reporting system everyone can report to. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.0)

The post 17 Merits were given is about a list I want to update if someone reports new posts. Having a look at the list everyone can recognize the translation-cheaters and report new Google-Translate-ANNs faster for issues in the future. There are some candidates having accumulated 16 fake ANNs (or bounties). https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.msg39796150#msg39796150 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.msg39796150#msg39796150)

Let us wait for Default trust members. Only they can decide, if that was the merit abuse or not. A lot of people are trying to post something valuable, to get some merits and believe me, for a newbie and even a junior, it can take months if not years, to achieve just a full member status. And you suddenly are getting almost 70 merits for some posts in 2 page topic about translation spam? That is completely unfair and that's why I reported you (I never reported anyone before that) Anyway that was nothing personal and I wish you a good luck. Cheers.

I agree it can be hard to earn Merit, but if you post good quality (not only one post, the whole posting history is important) you can get a nice bunch of them. It's a mixture of good content, help and creativity.
And yes, your posts have to be noticed by people giving merit. If you post in a spam megathread your quality post will be covered immediatedly.

Finally this is not unfair I received the merit for, it's a big problem in the German section because we have no subforums for ANNs and Bounties. The result is all the ANNs are bumped all the time covering important topics. And if there are every time translation cheaters bumping their ANNs too, it's very annoying. In addition ANN-cheating is against the rules.

Actually, as far as I recall, DT users have no say in the question of merit abuse.
But I guess the mods might have a look at my presumed "wrongdoing" 8)

A lot of people are trying to post something valuable, to get some merits and believe me, for a newbie and even a junior, it can take months if not years, to achieve just a full member status.
Actually, it's not really hard to receive a lot of merit.
Contribute something meaningful to the forum, write an FAQ for users, answer serious questions not with one-liners, but with meaningful, insightful and correct, researched information, and you'll rake the merit in.
At least that's the standard I require for giving merit.

1miau showed a meaningful contribution to the forum by actively fighting google translated spam on the German subforum.
I credited that with some merit and promised to credit further reports with more.

And you suddenly are getting almost 70 merits for some posts in 2 page topic about translation spam? That is completely unfair and that's why I reported you (I never reported anyone before that) Anyway that was nothing personal and I wish you a good luck. Cheers.
You seem to fail to understand why it's not the length of a post that makes it merit-worthy.
I happen to understand that the research work behind 1miau's (and others') reports is more than trivial, which is why I consider it a good idea to award such work for the good of the forum with some merit.

I definitely agree it's not the standard behavior. They are a newly created member within the last month which is strange to be getting so much merit so soon and a lot from just a couple people. However, I'm tending to think that the non-english boards try and get a lot of their native speakers to stick around and grow that part of the forum, so they will issue their merit out a lot more. That, and I've received a lot of merit from one user myself without asking for any.

Doesn't convince me entirely of abuse, but good job being a little suspicious! Continue your work for evaluating strange merit scenarios.

Merit needs a rework anyways ;D

Right now translation spam is a problem . The fact that it stays in local threads worsens it more since we can only look out only in that language section which we understand.  I think it is not a regular thread but it is a very good and important thread for reporting spammers. Also it drives an idea for others to start something like this in their own section which will help in weeding out such problems from local threads. Something like this should be encouraged which qwk and phantastisch did by sending huge merits.

From my point of view I don't find it is a merit abuse as it's not like that they are giving it to their alts or trading it for money. It's totally upon them to how much to send merit based on how they value the thread/post.

And btw this thread should be in Meta since the matter is related to merit abuse.

it's a big problem in the German section because we have no subforums for ANNs and Bounties.

There are no child boards (subforums) for bounties in Russian thread as well and in many others.

In addition I've launched a transparent reporting system everyone can report to. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.0

For reporting bounty cheaters, translation cheaters scammers and spammers there is a scam accusation board on this forum and if there will be a need for child boards (subforums as you call them) Theymos will make decision about that.

It's totally upon them to how much to send merit based on how they value the thread/post.

Then why a lot of people are tagged for that reason ? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823221.0

Research work behind 1miau's (and others') reports is more than trivial, which is why I consider it a good idea to award such work for the good of the forum with some merit.

Theymos (The admin of this forum) received 45 merits only once https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=35 and of course he never received 12 merits in ONE MINUTE from one account and 50 merits in ONE DAY from another.

OgNasty DT1 member received 25 merits only once https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=18321

Same story is with other DT members. NOR OF THEM received such amount of merits in a such short period of time.  BTW YOU YOURSELF  qwk never received more then 10 merits for your post from one account https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=24140

So, I guess 1miau is more valuable member of community then admin of this forum, all DT members and all of us, because he found some German translator scammers and opened a thread for reporting them......

OP, please have a look again, who gave me the Merits !
I think it's a hard accusation to say the German Mod or qwk (a legendary registered in 2011) are Merit abusers.

This is the most important point. 1miau is thinking that nobody will punish the mod of German board and a "Donator+Legendary+DT member"

I'm out of this thread because as I can see there are "UNTOUCHABLE" forum members here and they are allowed to do whatever they want.

Are they tagged just because of sending huge chunk of merit to a user? Give a look at it again  ;)

Yeah there are unless a conclusive and solid proof is available to take them down.

Merit abuse is not regarding for which post you send it or how you send  it(all at once or bit by bit) or  how much you send it. It's regarding to whom you send it (abuse if sent to alt) or if you are buying/selling merits .

1miau

I read this post in German. It was not translated by Google translator. You say bullshit. I'll tell you more. In the German section there are much lower quality translations. I'm not a specialist in German. And nevertheless, it is clear to the newcomer that you are abusing the merit.

Perhaps you have an agreement with the moderator. Or maybe you just managed to get to him in a good position. Anyway, Either way, it also seems suspicious your growth merit. You have 42 posts, but 92 merit. Hardly I know another such person in our forum, who would also quickly and easily receive a merit. I have no doubt that you receive a fraudulent merit. If the author of the topic will complain about you to the administration, I will understand it.

Merit is generally a stupid and absurd rule. It annoys me, too. But since it exists, I want people to get it honestly, and not through buying or negotiating with a moderator.

Yes, it really looks like a purchase. The person has 42 messages, but 91 merits. Other people create great themes and get 1-2 merit for it. I for all time on the forum received 1 (!) merit, although I tried to actively support topics and help new users.

I understand people who are just buying merits. this rule is really absurd. But, 1miau, you must try to do it more imperceptibly ;)

That's kinda suspicious for 62 Merits earned in a day. some are really giving big amounts of merits. you can make some clarifications if the post is really worth the merits given or not.

Merit needs a rework anyways ;D
You're right Merit does need a rework. it's kinda unfair for most members but there is a good thing with Merits is making the useless posters not obtain any higher if they don't post with sense.

I have a confession to make:

Indeed, I bought merit.
On at least three occasions did I pay BTC for merit from other users of the bitcointalk forum.
That includes one occasion where I traded BTC for merit with an administrator of this forum, using a fake persona (a.k.a. alt account).

Conclusive proof of my crimes against this forum:

Exhibit A:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4432338.msg39570236#msg39570236
in which qwk receives 10 merit for stating the obvious of being a so-called "Donator", from an administrator of the forum, disguised behind the fake persona
theymos_away (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=349090), obviously in return for a payment of 10 BTC barely a few years earlier.

Exhibit B:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1954571.msg25267824#msg25267824
in which qwk receives 20 merit from user 600watt (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=88912) in return for a so-called "donation" towards an alleged "worthy cause", for which not further proof other than (most likely photoshopped) pictures of grateful children are given.

Exhibit C:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=368601.msg3936987#msg3936987
further evidence of monetary contributions from the side of qwk towards user 600watt, who led users to believe that he was preparing a so-called "BTC1K-Party" which actually never took place. Part of the contributions to the party have never been returned, e.g. qwk's payment for 2 tickets (which obviously was repaid in the form of aforementioned 20 merits).

You may now turn your sarcasm detectors off again. Hadn't turned it on? Read again!

Title: Re: Merit abuse. 50+12 merits received within 1 day and 1 minute.
Post by: qwk on June 20, 2018, 04:09:19 PM
he received 12 merits within 1 minute on June 14 for the same topic from the user qwk
Just to give you an explanation, though I don't actually believe you deserve one:
I tend to "speed-read" threads where I find some valuable postings and just drop some merit to anyone I deem "worthy".
E.g., see the thread 2018 wird das Jahr von ? ? ? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2535052)
I happened to stumble over that thread a few days ago and noticed some (medium) quality content by quite a few users.
So I decided to just "let it rain" and poured out 16 individual merits to posters in said thread over the course of some 10 minutes (took me a while to speed-read all the 16 pages of the thread).

All of us are following forum rules here.
I'm not so sure if you do. You're posting an obvious off topic thread in "Trading Discussion > Scam Accusations".

And you suddenly are getting almost 70 merits for some posts in 2 page topic about translation spam? That is completely unfair and that's why I reported you
So you're actually confessing that you used the "report to moderator"-feature out of jealousy?

it's a big problem in the German section because we have no subforums for ANNs and Bounties.
There are no child boards (subforums) for bounties in Russian thread as well and in many others.
The same problem most probably exists in most local subforums.
There's no reason why the local communities shouldn't adopt their own respective ways to deal with it.
This is one of the ways we "Germans" try to handle it.

For reporting bounty cheaters, translation cheaters scammers and spammers there is a scam accusation board on this forum and if there will be a need for child boards (subforums as you call them) Theymos will make decision about that.
"Scam Accusation" is not for "forum abuse".

NOR OF THEM received such amount of merits in a such short period of time
Seriously, most of them couldn't care less and would rather have merit given to "good newbies" than wasted on them.
Also, being a DT member doesn't necessarily make you a "quality poster".

BTW YOU YOURSELF  qwk never received more then 10 merits for your post from one account https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=24140
Untrue. I once received 20 merit, but that's more than 120 days ago, which is why you can't see it :)
And yes, sometimes I feel it's a little unfair how little merit I receive for some of my "major works" like the German taxation FAQ.
But then again, what am I gonna do with the merit? Become Legendary^2?
So please, don't waste your merit on me, give it to newbies, members, Full members, Hero members etc. who deserve to "rank up" eventually.

So, I guess 1miau is more valuable member of community then admin of this forum, all DT members and all of us, because he found some German translator scammers and opened a thread for reporting them......
In my opinion, yes. A newbie who goes the extra mile of doing the forum a service deserves merit more than all of the above.

nobody will punish the mod of German board and a "Donator+Legendary+DT member"
Not unless there's a good reason.

Just ask yourself one question:
Why would qwk & phantastisch "sell merit" to a newbie or "push an alt"?
Doesn't really make sense to me.
Pushing an alt is something you usually do for money.
I'm not even participating in paid signature programs etc.
So, obviously, I'm not in it for the money.
Where's the motive?

I would like to conclude this post with just one last statement, if I may:
If you find anything wrong with the merit given from qwk & phantastisch to 1miau, accuse them!
It's us who might have been selling merit / pushing an alt, whatever.
Leave 1miau, one of the few "good newbies", alone!

edit: corrected a few typos.

Merely sending or receiving merits is not proof of anything. If you have actual proof that these accounts are alts or colluded in some way AND they send merits to each other - that might be something to look into.

Let's say I send you 50 merits. What does that mean?

I read this post in German. It was not translated by Google translator. You say bullshit.
Why do you not answer in the German section? Probably because everyone would see that your German is very weak by translating your answers via Google TranslateÖ

Unfortunately, I have archived your article via archive.is so everyone  from the German forum can confirm, that itís a very bad translation done with Google Translate. There are words no one would use them in German, like:
-   Total Token liefert
-   Yardcap
-   4 Jahre unverfallbar
-   Wir bauen eine benutzerfreundliche Krypto Austausch
-   Ö..
This is worst crap German and Iím not very surprised itís already deleted by phantastisch.

Proof: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4415262.msg40308374#msg40308374
Archive: http://archive.is/GvdTw

That's the good thing having the new system I created: everyone can see your deleted ANN which was reported in my new topic using Google Translate translations (or similar) by having a look at the archived website. (archive.is)
Itís ridiculous to say, you have made the translation in a right way, anyone from the German forum can confirm itís not honestly translated.
Why are you complaining? You have tried to cheat with a Google-Translate ANN, it was reported from me and phantastisch deleted it. What do you expect? Itís very shameful to cheat first, then fail your goal and now you think you are right because your ANN was deleted? Thatís ridiculous, sorry!

I'll tell you more. In the German section there are much lower quality translations. I'm not a specialist in German.
Then, why you are using translation tools instead of posting in your language you are familiar with? By having a look at your posting history, you are from the Russian section (like OP). Why you are not posting your ANN in the Russian section?!

Anyway, Either way, it also seems suspicious your growth merit. You have 42 posts, but 92 merit.
Activity ≠ Number of posts

You accuse me of getting merit for no reason, even though you donít have any Merit yourself? Sorry, I can't take you seriously.

Merit is generally a stupid and absurd rule. It annoys me, too. But since it exists, I want people to get it honestly, and not through buying or negotiating with a moderator.
Dude, you really have no idea how the Merit system works. Only this one comment disqualifies yourself. Why should be Merit generally a stupid and absurd rule? Maybe for low quality posters and account cheatersÖ
If you understand the Merit System you wonít call it stupid or absurd.

Your posting history is a mixture of one-liners and bounty-reports, so Iím not surprised you received none yet. If you donít change this and continue calling this system stupid there will be no chance to get Merit.
Donít expect Merits for bounty-reportsÖ

Finally donít say Merit is stupid or a absurd rule if you donít have some. It seems to me you donít understand the whole intention of this systemÖ

Yes, really? Please don't speak for all of us, it's only your opinion...

Cheers.

Merely sending or receiving merits is not proof of anything. If you have actual proof that these accounts are alts or colluded in some way AND they send merits to each other - that might be something to look into.

Let's say I send you 50 merits. What does that mean?

Lets say you have a friend, who needs money and wants to participate in bounty or signature campaigns, but he does not have even a junior account here. You instruct him to open some kind of a bullshit thread and send him 50 merits because in your opinion it is very useful for the forum. But actually it is nothing special and only few people are posting there. There are hundreds of similar topics on this forum. After sending him 50 merits just for nothing, you will send him another 50 merits from your alt account (Only forum administrator can 100% confirm that you have an alt account registered from the same IP) Or if you do not have alt account, you ask one of your friends to give 50 merits to that account. After that the dude, who received 100 merits for just shitposting needs only to post arround 12 posts a week and soon he will became a full member. Full member can easily make 300-500 $ a month if he will work hard. Regarding this dude  1miau    JUST SHOW ME ANY NEWBIE ACCOUNT THAT RECEIVED 92 MERITS FOR 42 POSTS. Nobody ever got such statistic after introducing of the merit system. I agree with OP that this show was orchestrated in a very clever way. Because the merit sources are Legendary detonator DT2 member https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24140  and the member of staff https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=18312. No DT2 member will tag them, because they can tag them back.... Only DT1 members can resolve that issue, but they never care about such things. The result = WE GOT A NEWBIE WITH 42 POSTS AND 92 MERITS. Congratulation to community. We are all truly decentralized here  ;D

Sorry suchmoon, but after reading the answer of yours, I start to understand why it is so difficult to communicate with a woman over 40. In my post, you read only one word that was misspelled by T9 of my phone. I just want to ask you once again. Could you please show us the profile of another newbie with 42 posts and 92 merits? That's all I am asking for. Thank you and best regards.

Why do you not answer in the German section? Probably because everyone would see that your German is very weak by translating your answers via Google TranslateÖ

My German is weak. You did not discover America. I did not do that translation. I was asked to publish this translation by a person, because he has the lowest status on the forum and he does not display pictures

I know that the person who did this translation showed his work to a person for whom the German language is native. And this man approved his translation. Perhaps he had some terms that he did not translate as it is generally accepted. But I do not doubt that his translation was grammatically correct. Tell me, is the German language? Or did you learn German?[/quote]

The guy, if you think that the translation was not done correctly, help this person figure out what exactly he did wrong. I know this interpreter personally. I know that he does not use Google translator or something similar. Stop talking nonsense.

Once again I ask you. What is your native language?

Quote
Then, why you are using translation tools instead of posting in your language you are familiar with? By having a look at your posting history, you are from the Russian section (like OP). Why you are not posting your ANN in the Russian section?!

I was asked to publish the translation, and I did it. Because the person who made the translation has a lower status on our forum. And in his posts are not visible pictures.

Quote
You accuse me of getting merit for no reason, even though you donít have any Merit yourself? Sorry, I can't take you seriously.

I have never seen a person who would receive so quickly and so many merits in an honest way. I have almost no doubt that you are involved in some kind of fraudulent scheme.

Quote
Dude, you really have no idea how the Merit system works. Only this one comment disqualifies yourself. Why should be Merit generally a stupid and absurd rule? Maybe for low quality posters and account cheatersÖ
If you understand the Merit System you wonít call it stupid or absurd.

Listen to me. First of all, I'm a girl. Secondly, you and I did not baptize children. Address to me respectfully. Do not act like an offended teenager.

You know, I would like, that I was mistaken. So in the end it turned out that you are an honest person. But I do not believe in it. I have never seen a man receive merits so much in an honest way

I doubt that. No native German speaker would accept "unverfallbar" as anything but (possibly intentional) gibberish.
If I had to translate that back to English, it'd be something like "un-decay-lible". You get the idea?

The guy, if you think that the translation was not done correctly, help this person figure out what exactly he did wrong.
Why would we help some guy to make money with translations he's obviously not qualified to deliver himself?
In other words, why would we help a scammer?

I know this interpreter personally. I know that he does not use Google translator or something similar.
I actually believe you that he doesn't use google translator, google would never come up with such utter nonsense.
That doesn't make his posts actual German content, which is why it's correct to report it according to the rules of the forum.

Once again I ask you. What is your native language?
As far as I can tell, 1miau is either a native German speaker or very close.
My native language is Franconian, a dialect of German, but I speak High German well enough 8)

If he really has a low-quality translation, then I have no questions. But he tells me that his translation was checked by people for whom German is the mother tongue.
In addition, I am outraged by your assertion that Curare was preparing this text through Google translator. I know for sure that this is not so. I know this person and trust him.

In addition, I ask you to indicate the mistakes of Curare.
Believe me, I also do not want to be involved in the publication of low-quality translations. But while I do not see full-fledged criticism, it seems to me that in your assessment you are too biased.

Anyway, your unusual growth is very suspicious. It looks like you really just bought it. As I wrote above, I can not blame you for this. But I think this is really the case

My humble opinion, to solve this problem of over merit, just modify the merit voting taking away the possibility to decide how much merit to give to an user by the voter himself.

Permit to vote a merit to a user just with 1 point.

Simple and will avoid any abuse

Well in that case the user had to prepare 50 posts, not one and at that point find that all 50 posts are of good quality to merit a point, can be a different challenge, and can reveal underneath games....

I don't believe this is a necessary approach. Since the airdropped Merit is almost spent there would only be problems for Merit sources reaching their limit of distributed Merit. I could imagine this needs a lot of time to find good posts and if a Merit source finds a good one, why not rewarding it with 10 Merit or more?

Personally I read Theymos post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0) about merit and see the purpose of the merit system as rewarding users that provide good content. So when I look at giving merit now I look at whether a person does regular shitposts -  if they regularly post shitposts - I won't give them merit for a good post because in my opinion defeats the purpose of merit.

Generally I try to restrict one merit per post because I only have a limited amount to give and now am involved in lots of interesting projects documenting bitcointalk history - so there are quite a few contributors to reward now for quality contributions. It is quite useful as a bookmark. Previous to this I found it quite difficult to find good posts and see no problem with merit sources rewarding consistent good posters with up to 50 merits.

With ANN - it is a commercial post. It should be written to a decent standard of the language it purports to be in. It is different for a user attempting to answer a thread. I'm dyslexic - my language skills are not perfect. Enabling the browser spellcheck has been useful. If I write in some of the other languages I attempt to get better at I would not put an important thread up without getting it checked over by a native speaker. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get someone on the forum to help translate.

The theyoungmillionaire (who I only had a very brief conversation with via PM) helped me translate an important anti phishing post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4423342.0) into Filipino (A lot of Filipino users are victims of exchange phishing scams) and another user helped me translate the same post into Russian (my Russian is quite poor). I like reading the Russian and German forums because it has some high quality posts in there - even though I am not particularly good at either language.

I don't know whether you checked but phantastisch is bitcointalk staff.
https://i.imgur.com/KsdK8do.png

and qwk is one of the most generous merit senders. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsend

and legendary detonator... ;D

Also - "‹bersetzungs-Spam gefunden? Hier kŲnnt ihr ihn berichten" translates correctly into " Translation Spam found? You can report it here" rather than:
"Found a translation spam ? Here you can report it"

1miau won't even benefit from the merits because his activity count first has to catch up.

Itís exactly the same way I do it. :)
All my Merit I sent out so far was limited to the smallest amount possible to give away. I donít want to run out of sMerits because if Iíll notice a great post in the future and I have no sMerit anymore it could be an injustice if I compare the quality of the new post I want to reward (but canít) and the other post I rewarded in the past.
My best solution regarding this problem is to send out the smallest amount of sMerit whatís actually possible and thatís 1 Merit.

A good idea to improve the Merit system could be to change the scale of Merits. Maybe this is a way to solve this problem:

- enable the option to give away Ĺ Merit or ľ Merit

- or quite better: change the value of each Merit by multiplicating it by a factor of 5 (or 10) and multiplicate the amount of Merit to rank up also by a factor of 5 (or 10). All Merits already given to accounts (or sMerits stored in the accounts) must also be multiplicated by this factor. If we use a factor of 5 this could be the new rank requirements:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member3010
Member6050
Full Member120500
Sr. Member2401250
Hero Member4802500
Legendary775-10305000

And maybe we can add 10 Merit for the rank of a Jr. Member since it would be much easier to receive a decent amount of Merits.

As a result, there would be more posts awarded because itís better to have an option to send 5 times 1 Merit as 1 time 1 Merit.
Another positive effect would be that itís easier for new members to receive their first Merit (what could motivate a lot) and so they could send sMerit and participate in this system, too. In addition, the motivation if you see your amount of Merit growing would have a positive impact on the atmosphere of the whole forum.
Actually, I see lots of posts which are good, but not very good and if we scale the Merit System, these good posts (which are still far away from shitposts) could receive Merits. Dividing low quality spam posts from good (or special) posts was why Merit was introduced.

If we reform the Merit System by offering a better scale, the overall impression and acceptance could be improved a lot.

Normally, changes are quite difficult to implement, I know, but this option seems to be a relative easy one.

With ANN - it is a commercial post. It should be written to a decent standard of the language it purports to be in.
Thatís true, the most important purpose to translate ANNs is to receive money and I saw some candidates translating to 8 languages (or more). Itís not difficult to figure out, which translations are done by using Google Translate or similar if you have a look at some points. Like strange words we donít say in German or if the only German post of a person is a translated ANN. There are some more points we have to check but these red-flags in addition, we can be sure itís not translated how it should be, what is not fair to native speakers doing it in the right way.

Great  ;)
But Iím not very experienced in so many languages like you. I had French a few years ago but now at my university, foreign languages are less important, itís more technical now. But nice to hear about helpful members, thatís what we need!

Why did i get red? My merits were diminishing and i decided to distribute them, because in the message appears! "There is no point in accumulating sMerit; Keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decline the unused sMerit in the future." I received only 7 merit, received merit and returned to who gave me, why this?

Because there is selective justice on this forum and  DT members are doing what ever they want and tagging whomever they want and it does non matter if you broke the rules of the forum or not. The good Idea is to have some king of arbitrage court here, that will decide who is right and who is wrong. And DT2 members should be tagged for wrongdoing by DT1 members. If this will happen, that dudes will think twice before tagging anyone for no reason. You were tagged by a dude called qwk aka FUBAR who is a well known merit sponsor of shitposters on this forum. And specially one of them called 1miau a newbie with 76 posts (42 activity) and 102 merits https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=2143453

Regards.

P.S I sent 1 merit (I have the total of 2 and can send only 1) back to our friend qwk aka FUBAR for a great post (sarcasm turned on) because he is merititing great posts as well.

Have a chat with the person that gave you the red trust. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24140)

The problem is that https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=911155 and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=996343

Both have been identified as merit abusers.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=911155 is undeniably an account / merit farmer.

It is discussed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4508271.msg40681482#msg40681482

Yes, really?  :D :D
So you say shitposts but have you translated all of them to your own language?
- If yes, you should teach yourself what is a shitpost and regarding your own merit: please don't waste your time for this nonsense it's better to write own posts, then you'll receive merits (maybe).
- If no =>  :D

I never translated anything, also I never participated in any ICO or bounty compaign. Just a short question. Apart from wasting tremendous amounts of time and energy as a shitposter on some arcane internet forum, how is the rest of your life progressing? Good job, nice house, loving wife and children? some cool hobby, kite surfing champion or scuba diving professional perhaps? ... I guess no, because only a slacker guy, who is sitting 24/7 at home can spend all his time on begging merits for some shitposts on this scammy forum.

I'm not often online here, therefore you can check the merit per comment ratio. It's other way round: I wish I would have more time for comment here.  ;)

Slightly off topic here, but I gave you negative trust rating for alleged trading of merit.
Evidence against you is not as strong as in other cases, so I'm absolutely willing to concede that I'm wrong, if and only if you can give me a reasonable explanation for:

Quote
Merit summary for Hermes Mercury

Sent in the last 120 days
June 20, 2018, 03:44:18 PM: 1 to Ajpa94 for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)
June 20, 2018, 03:25:07 PM: 2 to Entei for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)
June 20, 2018, 02:51:14 PM: 1 to guide123 for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)

Received in the last 120 days
June 20, 2018, 03:42:58 PM: 3 from Ajpa94 for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)
June 20, 2018, 03:00:10 PM: 4 from Entei for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)

I.e.:
03:00:10 PM: 4 from Entei
03:25:07 PM: 2 to Entei

03:42:58 PM: 3 from Ajpa94
03:44:18 PM: 1 to Ajpa94

My assumption here is that you've made a kind of "deal" where you return the sMerit you receive for merit to the merit giver.
Within 25 minutes for Entei, within 2 minutes for Ajpa94.

The amount of merit being too low for a "trade", I actually suspect you to be an alt account of either one or both.

it's a big problem in the German section because we have no subforums for ANNs and Bounties.

I'm out of this thread because as I can see there are "UNTOUCHABLE" forum members here and they are allowed to do whatever they want.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=2143453

Have a nice day.
Just archive the thread, this forum consists  full of shady things. If you or your friends sent a merit point then you get tagged, but these people wont get.

second, i do not know what happened and do not know who these guys are, but was so happy to receive merit and decided to give back immediately to who gave it to me
Sounds reasonable. I'll delete the negative, but for the future, please don't reward merit by returning merit.

Look guys 1miauĎs posts are usually of high quality and with the merited thread he is doing me and the german board a real service.
Other Users have since felt more encouraged to contribute and combat the plague that are badly translated posts.
Reports are way up and that is a good thing, that benefits the forum.

I was just joking. Sorry.
I wouldn't apologize for making a joke, especially on the internet and especially not the one you made.  Not to derail this thread with identity politics, but women are not such delicate flowers that they can't withstand some guy making a joke about ugly girls on a male-dominated forum--and I think suchmoon has a sufficiently thick skin such that he/she isn't going to be cowering in a closet in the fetal position over it.

We're in trouble if bitcointalk gets to the point where we have to start self-censoring our posts to avoid offending people.  Grow a spine, snowflakes.

You'd seriously let a joke like that ruin a relationship built on busting scams?  That's much worse than the joke he told, IMO.

If you think that telling a girl that she is ugly is a joke, than walk into any public place, bar, restaurant, cafe, e.t.c. and tell any girl that she  is an ugly granny (especially than she is sitting with a guy) and watch what will happen.

It would depend completely on the location of the bar or public place and type of female that was approached.

In some countries where men are chivalrous it might start a fight.  In some places you might get a friendly tap on the shoulder from security and asked to leave.

In some countries where women are emancipated you will probably get laughed at, ridiculed and ignored.

Such comment is likely to be met by a look of surprise and:" Were you talking to me ? Or your reflection in the door ?"
