Title: New Here
Post by: ionlaser on February 08, 2014, 01:12:52 AM
Well Id say I'm still new to all of this, I started mining right at thanksgiving with 1 usb block erupter at 336mhps and Ive now moved up to 25 of them and 2 butterfly lab jalapenos one at 5.5ghps and the other at 6.7ghps.So im running at around 21ghps.
Now my question is which is better, the usb sticks or the jalapenos? Im looking to get another one, just don't know which way to go.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

More hashrate is better, so 6.7Ghs beats 336Mhs easily.

Bitcoin mining is all about giving back to the Bitcoin infrastructure rather than hashing at a pool. See Hashers are not miners, and Bitcoin network doesn't need them. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411099.0) for an explanation.

Running the full wallet (bitcoin-qt) with upnp/ports forwarded can also help the network  ;)

First of all, welcome!

You can use this website (http://mining.thegenesisblock.com) to see which option is better. Just plugin the numbers or select the products from the drop down list to estimate your breakeven and profitability.

Welcome.

Just a friendly reminder, you are very likely mining at loss (after hardware cost and electricity cost) with your hardware now.
But if you are having fun, just go ahead. :)
