Well, contest #1 is still running. Unfortunately I can't say there are many participants.
So I decided to start the second contest: easy to join, less expensive lotto-style hints.
Please visit the site and check it out.

Some updates:
  • contest #1 is finished;
  • contest #2 is running.

Also "contest #3" was started which transformed into instant lottery "Bet 0.1 and win up to 100 LTC".
It is still LTC as I am yet to find the popular format.
More details are in litecointalk thread.

Please come and check out the website.

Finally, the BTC version of the lottery.

Hash tree lottery
Bet from 0.01 to 0.64 BTC and win up to x15
https://crackthewallet.org/lottery2_btc/ (https://crackthewallet.org/lottery2_btc/)

The lottery is based on pairwise matching of transaction id and block Merkle root. Both are sha256 hashes and can be represented as 64 hex-char strings.

Tickets are available in different prices: 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, ... 0.64 BTC.
Price of ticket defines how many symbols of txid and merkleroot will be tested for a match. Each pair costs 0.01 BTC and pays x15 in case of a match, that is 0.15 BTC.

Buy the ticket, wait for confirmation, refresh the page and receive payout. Withdraw your balance immediately or later. No fees, no commissions.

Example:
"123456789..." - txid
"1x3y5z700..." - merkleroot

0.01 BTC ticket has 1 match: "1"; payout is 0.15 BTC;
0.02 BTC ticket has 1 match: "1"; payout is 0.15 BTC;
0.03 BTC ticket has 2 matches: "1", "3"; payout is 0.30 BTC;
0.04 BTC ticket has 2 matches: "1", "3"; payout is 0.30 BTC;
0.05 BTC ticket has 3 matches: "1", "3", "5"; payout is 0.45 BTC;
0.06 BTC ticket has 3 matches: "1", "3", "5"; payout is 0.45 BTC;
0.07 BTC ticket has 4 matches: "1", "3", "5", "7"; payout is 0.60 BTC;
...

Your first ticket will be used for a demo play. This will be a "dry run", you will neither loose nor win, deposited amount will be put to your balance - withdraw it anytime.

How to check:
  • in Bitcoin-Qt: debug console and commands listtransactions/gettransaction and getblock/getblockhash;
  • websites: blockchain.info (http://blockchain.info) and blockexplorer.com (http://blockexplorer.com)

Please note:
  • you can buy multiple tickets in one block, all will be processed correctly, but details will be shown only for the last ticket;
  • you can withdraw directly to new "buy ticket" address (and avoid fees);
  • amounts in excess of 0.64 BTC will be put to your balance.

Good luck!
If you like the game please share the link.

Bonus is 0.01 BTC real play ticket, not just 0.01 BTC.
Do not post your personal addresses.
Do not post first i.e. demo ticket addresses.

Buy demo ticket yourself, then ask for bonus (maybe you will win 0.15 BTC - who knows)

Sorry this was not clear.
Good luck!

There is new game now:
Progressive BTC raffle. Tickets from 0.001 BTC
https://crackthewallet.org/btc/raffle/ (https://crackthewallet.org/btc/raffle/)

There are 5 rounds of 150 BTC blocks scheduled now. 150 blocks translate to 25 hours (10 minutes per BTC block). Prize pools are set to 0.05 BTC.
The first round will begin after BTC block 298750 is generated.
All BTC coins from sold tickets are added to round's prize pool. More tickets - higher prizes.
Guaranteed three winners in every round. Payouts are 50%, 20% and 10% of prize pool. What remains goes to next round.
If you like the game, please share.

Good luck!  :)

Quote from rules page:

This BTC raffle (like everything on this site) is:
  • Anonymous and secure: no registration, personal unique secret URL, HTTPS protocol.
  • Provably fair: no server secrets, just public blockchain hashes, easy to validate.
  • Unpredictably random: will use future BTC block's data, can't be predicted.
  • Fully automated: no humans involved, instant payouts.

The Rules:
  • Prize pool is seeded with initial amount selected by organizers. All coins from sold tickets go to prize pool progressively increasing it.
  • Every raffle round has a defined range of BTC blocks. Round is in progress while these blocks are being generated.
  • Your ticket buys you nonces. Single nonce costs 0.001 BTC. This is the minimal ticket price. Any number of nonces can be bought with single ticket. You can buy multiple tickets.
  • Drawing will occur after the last block is generated. The lowest hash for each ticket is calculated using nonces:
    sha256(txid + nonce + merkleroot), where:
    • txid - your ticket's transaction id,
    • nonce - takes integer values from 1 to number of nonces bought with the ticket,
    • merkleroot - Merkle root hash of the round's last block.
  • Three lowest hashes win 50%, 20% and 10% of prize pool. Remaining prize pool amount goes to next round.

The Notes:
  • Use your unique URL to access the raffle. Keep it secret and do not share.
  • No sending wallet limitations, buy ticket: from personal or shared wallet, from yours or friend's wallet, by direct withdrawal from exchange or other services.
  • Withdraw winnings to any address you specify. Automated, no fees, no commissions.

Yes, I hope with time and positive reviews from the first brave players it will start to build up.
There are some positive feedbacks in litecointalk thread (https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=15126.0 (https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=15126.0))
The most important positive feedback was from the winner of the 1st LTC contest (he risked 100 and won 177.58 LTC):
(http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoin/comments/1zs6mo/cracked_the_wallet/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoin/comments/1zs6mo/cracked_the_wallet/))

So if I buy a ticket and no one else but me has bought one I can still lose?
Three tickets with lowest hashes win. There is no limit on number of sold tickets.
One ticket - player will win the 1st place. Three tickets - all will be winners. Four tickets - 3 winners and 1 looser, and so on…

Good luck!  :)

Single ticket was sold… and was the winner of prize pool's 50%.
User bought ticket for 0.0041 BTC (don't know why he added 0.0001) and won 0.05205 BTC.

The next round is in progress now.

The 3rd BTC round is over. Five tickets were sold.
Drawing results are available in archive page.

Hashes can be easily checked:
the last block was 299200 and its Merkle root hash is 31292999c57190bda61905af31a2835fce30d4a4fe8480638c9ed80cc0e8d60f
(https://blockchain.info/block/000000000000000057cf6671e1b4b9f6e8e77072aaf4ae89142079fd66e78af1 (https://blockchain.info/block/000000000000000057cf6671e1b4b9f6e8e77072aaf4ae89142079fd66e78af1))
The lowest hash can be computed with this python script:
Code:
from hashlib import sha256
txid = '__your_txid_here__'
nonces = 10
mr = '__merkleroot_here__'
best_hash = 'f' * 64
for i in range(1, nonces + 1):
    h = sha256((txid + str(i) + mr).encode()).hexdigest()
    if h < best_hash:
        best_hash, best_nonce = h, i
print(best_hash, best_nonce)
Script can be executed online at http://www.compileonline.com (http://www.compileonline.com)

The next round is in progress...

Good luck!   :)

You mean 1000 blocks. Because daily rounds were not getting many players. Current round will end in approx. 4.5 days, on block #300500.
The 5th DOGE round is going to end soon, tickets start at 10 DOGE - you may try this (https://crackthewallet.org/doge/raffle/ (https://crackthewallet.org/doge/raffle/))
DOGE blocks have period of 1 minute.

Now that is a Longtime I thought 24 hrs was. Only got bitcoin but wanna play the raffle  ???

Then consider BTC lotteries. I decided not to call them "instant" (like LTC versions), because BTC confirmation times can be "very not instant".
These lotteries results become available as soon as your transaction gets the 1st confirmation.
And of course they are provably fair - they use block's Merkle root hash, which is unknown until the block is generated.

Round updates:
  • approx. 150 blocks till drawing, which will occur on BTC block #300500 (~1 day left);
  • 5 tickets sold;
  • 0.0717372 BTC prize pool.

https://crackthewallet.org/btc/raffle/ (https://crackthewallet.org/btc/raffle/)
Tickets start at 0.001 BTC

Simple math shows that this is actually a +EV game.
Say there are 6 tickets, single ticket has 1/6 chance to win 1st place (50% of prize pot), 1/6 for 2nd place (20%), 1/6 for 3rd place (10%) and 3/6 for loss.
Even at 100 tickets it is +EV. Because prize pot is progressively increased with each sold ticket.
You can also increase you win chances by buying more nonces.

Don't miss the chance, join the raffle!

It is a +EV game, so how are you, the site owner, make money from these raffles? Seems more like you are giving money away from the large prize pool compared to the ticket entries...  :-\

You are correct, I do not have profit. Just wanted to create this kind of game, as an experiment, for fun. I can afford to spend some BTC on this.
Also thought that +EV would attract rational gamblers. Mistake. Just look at all these ponzis…

I deposited 0.01 in the lottery.

1MEgVzfY2cBHgZsgSfdouvdD327gmhPqGL

And that's your demo play result:
6|9cded9ec42447e5532d5ca616bf285b42b81435f68cc2e2d7bb3f71c5633f99 - txid
2|80cfdc8d796ac410b707b50c40c35a3c904586752e7c64fc26f6790cb939553 - Merkle root

No matches for 0.01 BTC ticket.
Optimal bet would have been 0.06 BTC -> single match, 0.15 BTC payout, 0.09 BTC profit.
Your 0.01 BTC is now in your balance.

BTW, deposit address changes after every game, but it is possible to reuse previous ones.

Here's your 0.01 BTC free ticket: txid=0b6b6d1d63eeeda178ebae1a10e2a43f3b429c1bb95b3c99a790e1614b31951b
Good luck!  :)

Sent 0.06BTC and got a match, too bad it was just a demo play as it was my first deposit and so I did not get the 0.15BTC :P

Well, there is nothing magical in 0.06 BTC ticket amount.
In your demo play case:
f556c00e8f217ce95e19c0d6637b23ad998e376b63bd1ee26c576a96209a7d0a - txid
0954833d9c07710d66cd3af54d1d3c867c67bd773c200ee1b5e3daab8db61b64 - Merkle root
Optimal (max profit) amount was 0.54 BTC -> 5 matches, 0.75 BTC payout, 0.21 BTC profit.

For the next ticket maximum ROI was for 0.11 BTC amount -> 3 matches, 0.45 BTC payout, 0.34 BTC profit.

PS: free 0.01 BTC ticket: txid=974b0d8eb737d80397299bc84225d756550e7b10d1425fad8137703113fab6db

Well, that's gambling…

0.37BTC bet on this ticket would have got 4 matches -> 0.6BTC payout, 0.23BTC profit.

This is why there is mini version of the lotto, single pair costs 0.001BTC - ten times less than in regular version.

Looks like u got scammed !

Why? Would like to hear comment from the player.

Wrong. Notice the vertical bar. 0.06 ticket buys first 6 pairs. They have no matches. You've got zero.

I've gambled away 0.18BTC on this, but the pairs you buy are before the red bar that you could see in that image. Unfortunately just like me, no matches. That's why it is called a lottery. ;)

Stop, please. That's not an excuse, that's the rules. Everyone understands except you.
Chances for profit were 6/16. Just no luck.

Again, don't make such statements if you don't have proof.

Yes, it just rolls over what remains from the previous round. It's automated, so I just left it running as is…
Even when it was worth trying, not many decided to actually try - check the rounds archive.
