Title: [Pon3 Mining] Scrypt/BTC Hybrid Year Long Mining Operation IPO
Post by: cooldgamer on February 10, 2014, 06:20:36 PM
Holy crap tl;dr version:
For sale, 200 shares in Pon3 Mining Op. 1 Share = 1 GH/s SHA + 10KH/S scrypt, bidding starts at 0.03 BTC. In the future these shares will represent more hashing power, as 20% of returns is reinvested into the op.  Mining ends March 4th, 2015, or 365 days after the last Antminer is received, whichever is later.  All Antminers and hardware bought with 20% will be sold and profits split up, Scrypt hardware I already had will be returned to me.

I currently run a 2.0 mh/s farm and am looking to expand into both new Scrypt ASICs, and the next generation of Bitcoin mining.  With a partnership from Unicornhasher, I will be making a hybrid mining op of both Bitcoin and Scrypt mining power.  Shares will be sold in increments of 10kh/s of Scrypt and 1gh/s of SHA-256 power.  Antminers will be supplied using his Hosting program, where miners are hosted in a failure insured place for 90 days, then shipped to me/a buyer at the end of it.  If it is sold, all of the money will be distributed to the shareholders.  Electricity costs will be taken right out of income for rigs at my location, I pay $.093kw/h.  20% of all income will be used for fixing hardware/investing in more, splitting 50/50 between Scrypt and SHA hardware.  Resulting hashpower is distributed among shareholders.  Bitcoin mining will take place on a majority rules vote done by the groupbuy the power is provided by, then by a vote done by Pon3 mining shareholders.

Scrypt mining will be done at a majority rules pool and exchanged bi-weekly to BTC.  Payouts happen every Wednesday and Saturday.  Each share will be released in an auction, starting at .03.  If all shares aren't sold, I might have another with a lower starting price, or keep the rest.  Scrypt mining will officially start on March 3rd, I will point the power at Middlecoin as my leases end and give the profits to early shareholders as a bonus.  I have a new hosting location ready less than 2 hours away, so there will be a few hours down on a few days before the 3rd, but this doesn't affect BTC mining or any official Pon3 mining.  SHA-256 will begin as soon as the Antminer for the group buy arrives.  I may add shares at any time (out of my pocket), but not reduce the amount of hashpower one represents.  Shares may be traded at any time between people by PMing me a PGP signed message with the new owner's username and Bitcoin address.

Important stuff: the Scrypt and Antminer terms are different at the end.  Antminer selling profits are distributed among shareholders, Scrypt hardware that I already owned will return to me for personal use/renting out again.  It comes with partial physical ownership of SHA hardware, and any hardware bought with the growth fund, but not the starting Scrypt hardware.  If Scrypt ASICs ever get efficient enough to make GPU mining obsolete (electricity cost>mining income), that portion of the contract will end, and hardware will be returned to me.  Bitcoin mining and all ASICs bought with the growth fund will continue to run and dividends will be paid for the whole year, still reinvesting 20%, sold at the end, etc...  All downtime will be paid in full out of my pocket using our pool's calculator, hardware failure is covered by the 20%.

200 shares up for purchase, who wants them?

Features:
Not crazy electricity prices
At least two internet connections for miners at all locations
Hosted by 80+ power supplies always
Diversify between types of mining with one payment
Low entry cost

Antminer group buy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=455872.0
Unicorn Hasher: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=420784.0
IPO auction: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=460513.new#new

I'll have a payment addy as soon as my blockchain finishes syncing, not trusting anything besides Armory for this.  If you want to lock in your price with fiat, I could also accept a cash deposit at Wells Fargo.

I am running a host special on antminers.

1B gets the device +30 days hosting
.6B continues days 30-60
.4B continues days 60-90
After day 90 the devices are to be sold off (estimated .5B sale) and customers may upgrade to a newer asic or receive a refund of the sales price - shipping.

3=zi?
No, I just realized that was a terrible double meaning....  There is no ponzi here, the reinvestment goes right to more hardware, not paying for other shareholders.  I have the Scrypt hardware in hand and am just waiting for their leases to end.

Lol. I don't think cooldgamer is asking enough for a ponzi.  Shares are limited and payouts are based on mining not investing.

I will mine on whatever multipool the majority of shareholders want.  I typically end up getting .01 per mh/s every day or day an a half.  A good bit of the time there will be large spikes that make it go higher, though.

Payments for all shareholders have been received, first dividends will be going out tonight, although the Ant has only been on for a day so it will be a pretty small one :P

I'm not sure I totally understood the OP. Did the payment include scrypt mining or will it start only in March?

Scrypt mining doesn't start until March 3rd officially, but I'll be pointing my hardware at Middlecoin as the leases end and distributing the earned BTC to shareholders

PPLNS

Also, due to a shortage of Antminers, the rest of the Scrypt power will be sold standalone.  All hashpower that was sold is in hand, and you guys will have your own GPU dedicated, so nothing changes here except the amount of shares :)

Either, or something else, you pick the pool to mine on.  I only accept electricity payments in BTC or cash deposit at Wells Fargo :)

Not having much luck there, think I'll just stick to short term leases/personal mining on second thought with what I have leftover, gonna close that thread.

-BIG NEWS-
I have contacted a local datacenter about renting out some cabinets to host all of these.  Once that is worked out, I'll be doing a relaunch with a pre-order for a 1TH miner from Beastlymac and some gridseeds to add to my GPU farm.  The terms the new shares are under will include a $.25/kwh hosting fee, but all of the 20% goes to reinvestment, and will be optional.  You can also send more or less for reinvestment, that's just the default.  That's $.05 cheaper than the other big cloudhashing provider ::)

It's only a dime or two a week, I pay the tx fee out of my pocket.  That's why I do it all in a combined payment for both you and the groupbuy :P
I'll consider cutting back if the exchange rate goes much higher, but it isn't that much for now.  Even if I did take it out of the shares, the difference would be a fraction of a cent a week.

Oh I didn't know you paid the fee only once while doing combined payments. Bitcoin's awesome.
Carry on then :D

Good news, more shares to come in the next few days hopefully.  Talking to Miaviator about getting another Antminer groupbuy together in the next few days.  The price drop between bid time and the time the miner is ordered will be refunded under the terms I have proposed to him.  The only data center within 20 miles is bullshit expensive, so I'll be hosting these myself.  That also means I can fix them quicker, so guess it's for the better.  I'll put the saved $ from hosting fees into upgraded wiring and cooling, as well as better power supplies.  Nothing is official as of the moment, but keep an eye out for the morning ;)

Hosted Ant group buy will be happening tomorrow, reserving shares in the same format as last time.  Up to 200 shares may be up for sale.  Same terms as the OP, but electricity fee is $.25 per kwh at my location, 20% is optional and all goes to ASICs (amount can be changed too).  Price is yet to be determined, probably going to be in a BIN format.

Moving one of my rigs to the new hosting location for final testing :D

Awaiting info on he Ant GB, will post when I have it.  Payouts will probably be happening later than usual tonight (my wallet is on that rig) so please be patient.

The Antminer gb with Miaviator is taking too long for my taste, so taking things into my own hands for now.  I have 70 shares up for sale now.  Hosting terms are the same, but Ants have a $.20 per kwh fee, vs the GPUs at .0925.  This is because they use a lot less power, so the fee needs to be higher to be able to pay for repair and whatnot.  The 20% upgrade/repair/downtime fee has been taken out, although you are welcome to have me set aside part of your payment to go towards the ASICs though ;)  Already purchased shares are unaffected.  Shares are .022 each, coins can be sent to 1GoSU2EJhyCLFuNoUmvGSZrdU158f3XdWF.

Groupbuy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=505960.msg5575760#msg5575760

Also, I need votes on if we should keep the ant we have now for the rest of the 60 days, or stop it and refund the unpaid half of it, per the groupbuy terms.  I need votes in by the 14th.

+1 vote to keep them. I'm sure we'll get more profit by selling them on ebay the next time Bitcoin will be in bull mode.
Plus the difficulty seems to be stabilizing, which should make them profitable for longer than expected, especially if BTC's price keep increasing thus offsetting the cost of electricity.

.04 BTC has come out of the 20%, .033 after hardware fixing (a cord got messed up in the DC move).  Was actually going to use it later today to buy shares in the hosted Gridseed gb I'm doing right now.  That will add an estimated .66kh/s per share :)

Also on the nice-to-have list would be links to the mining. Here are links to what I've had on another group buy:

Finished it up, will be adding more detailed figures from now on, really didn't feel like going back and recalculating things that were already paid out

Also, in my half zombified state last night I typed .04 instead of .05 total earned from the 20%, but the .033 figure was right after replacing the cord (Damn Best Buy is expensive..)

Oh, and as for links to the mining, I'm trying to figure out a way to do something with the BTCGuild API for that.  For Scrypt, you can look at http://middlecoin.info/flotchart.php?BTC=1QBxTsfzSvPoHh7vstG5QKTjAEaMRbwkau

Also, because of the way my rig is setup now, hashrate will fluctuate from  350-700 (GPU mines when I'm not using it).  Payouts won't be affected, just thought I'd put that out there so nobody thought something was messed up :)

I stand corrected, not 100% up on Scrypt.  The rig we're hosted on is randomly hanging after a few hours of mining.  Keeping a close eye on it while I try to figure out what's going on, but it should show up as hashing on Middlecoin any second now

I payout at the rate middlecoin does for 490kh/s, regardless of actual mining.  Difference comes out of my reserve funds just for stuff like this :)

Next vote is due the 14th if I remember correctly

25% roi  :P
The reason is that BTC price plummeted, making the hosting costs for Scrypt almost double in BTC.  That combined with how fast Scrypt ASICs took over the market made GPU mining profitability go down pretty fast.  There is also the fact that the Ant still isn't sold (along with the Gridseed).  Don't forget about the 20% reinvestment/maintenance fee, which is going to be put in a BTC miner groupbuy starting up in the next day or two once my DC gets more power hooked up.  This mining OP was partially a gamble on if Scrypt ASICs would kill GPU mining, which they more or less did.

The alts' value proportionally to BTC is going up quite fast since a few days, I have hope that this will save us, along with a long-term bitcoin rally which will allow us to sell our used ants overpriced.

Cooldgamer, would it be possible for my part of the reinvestment fund to be sent to me in BTC instead, and not add any gh/s to my shares? Don't worry about it if it's too complicated.

I don't think that would be possible, since the 20% is used as a reserve in case of hardware failure.  Sorry :(

Finally figured out what was wrong with the Scrypt rig, the RAM stick was dead.  Going to need to take some out of the reserve to pay for the new stick.  Pulled one out of my main computer for now, so up and running :)

Over 9000 errors (http://puu.sh/8iizV.jpg)

Quick update:

New stick of ram costed $23 shipped when BTC was at 490, so .047 out of reserve fund.  .02057 left for upgrades at the moment.

Had some delays getting more power setup in the DC, so holding off on upgrades for the moment until that gets sorted out.  We'll be going with the Dragon 1T miner due to the best gh/$ ratio.

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Due to a chart reading error with Middlecoin, it has come to light that the Scrypt portion of this gb has been getting overpaid.  Going off the historical chart, 0.1444 should have been mined so far by our rig (and 0.3737 by the Ant).  The high payout amount is due to using the Middlecoin balance to calculate payments, not the amount paid out.  This resulted in a 0.1061 overpayment for Scrypt (why payouts have been so constant even with the increasing difficulty).  75% of the difference will be taken out of the final Ant sale price, the other 25% will be left for the inconvenience.  We will be switching over to Clevermining immediately, as they have stats to keep things like this from happening (although Scrypt-N seems to be more profitable, will be taking a vote in the next few days on if we should switch to that).  This problem does not affect any of my other groupbuys, as they are all stable enough that I have been going off the paid out amount (as I can for this now that the GPU rig is fixed).

Please note that I am still fully solvent, I'm not running/scamming/breaching contract/etc, just correcting overpayments.  Dividends will continue to go out as usual.

I was expecting a massive backlash/scam accusations, that was an attempt to keep them off.  I always try to make it up to the customers when I screw up somehow, especially when it's something like this.

Ignore what I posted a few seconds ago if you saw it, got thrown off by Albinokidd owning gb shares without Scrypt, numbers were right yesterday

Also, payouts (should) be automated from here on.  It's a double-layer of Cex.io auto payouts, so if it works right payments should be made every 2 days.

No worries. I don't see why you should be out of pocket, though, after the ant sells.
I was expecting a massive backlash/scam accusations, that was an attempt to keep them off.  I always try to make it up to the customers when I screw up somehow, especially when it's something like this.

I was wondering what kind of black magic you used to make payments who were so constant ;)

Hope selling the ants will get enough BTC to cover it.

Even with the overpaying problem fixed, the dividend is even bigger than usual :D

That was Cex fucking up, it sent the whole ant payment to you guys for some reason.  Won't send the next payment or 2 to make up for it, apparently the system has some kinks to work out still.  Transitions to new stuff is never smooth, just consider it an advance :P

Today is the last day of payouts not going to Pon3, after that things will return to normal.  Finally got my custom script so this bullshit can end :)

Also, Clevermining is essentially no longer profitable (.0002 daily at current rate).  Majority rules vote decides where we mine now, either Scrypt-N or regular.

Edit: typo

Scrypt-N on Leaserigs is an option, wouldn't have a problem setting it up :)

Nope, the whole point of Scrypt-N is to be immune to the Scrypt ASICs by switching the algo up a bit.  GPU only ;)

It's both!  We have a 490kh/s GPU rig and a 9% share in a Gridseed I'm hosting ;)
GPU rig hasn't been getting much action because of stability issues, but these past few days I've had 100% uptime (up until shutting it off today because no profit) so I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it's good to go

Payouts were sent last night for BTC, everybody has been dead quiet for what to do with the Scrypt rig.  Putting it on Leaserig and Vertcoin for now unless I can find a Scrypt-N multipool

Edit: Found one (http://www.coinmine.pw/#ScryptN)

Update: got 4/5ths of our power mining on trademybit, one GPU is being a pain with changing to Scrypt-N and I'll have to work on it tomorrow.  Only getting 145kh/s on a card that did 375 Scrypt, so it turns out we're not making much more here than we were :(

The Ant sold for .345 minus an estimated .05 shipping cost.  This comes out to .07375 between the Pon3 Mining shareholders.  All of this will be going to even up for the Scrypt overpayment.  The remaining .0058 will be taken out of the reserve fund.  What's left of the reserve will be going towards a S2 groupbuy I'm starting in a few minutes

just added up what I spent vs payout, and I only got 57% of what I put in, which is a large loss.

Did everyone else see this also? I'm just curious.

also two of the payments was unconfirmed :(

Yeah, I guess we had not foreseen the dominance of scrypt ASICs, the loss of value of scrypt-coins, dogecoin's block reward halvings, and BTC's huge difficulty increases.

Still, it's not so bad considering there is yet many months of payments to come. And kudos to Cooldgamer for handling this like a boss!

(Don't worry about the unconfirmed payment, it will pass through in a short while)

Oh thank you for that reply! I actually didn't realize there were still many payments to come, it sounded like things were done here. I guess I was confused.

Yes, kudos to Cooldgamer for sure!!

Also, the unconfirmed payments have been there for a while. there's one from the 11th, and one from just a few hours ago.

thanks again

Yes, mining Bitcoin is over, but our kh/s of scrypt mining should continue until February if it stays profitable :)

FYFY, the Gridseed is on a 90 day gb basis just like the Ant was, the GPUs will be the ones staying for the whole year (if profitable)

If Scrypt ASICs ever get efficient enough to make GPU mining obsolete (electricity cost>mining income), that portion of the contract will end, and hardware will be returned to me.

Well that escalated quickly! In February, I knew asics were coming, just not how fast or furiously. The sha ones seemed to take forever. And it looks like even monero isn't worth mining.

Ah well, it's only money.

Perhaps you could sell the graphic cards to gamers and buy scrypt asics?

Scrypt ASICs are a terribad investment now too.  The machines that cost 9k right now bring in .062 daily.  That doesn't even include power :-X

Yeah, you're right. Still, it seems better than GPUs, considering the quite lower electricity cost.
There was a deal last week for 45$ Gaw furies, which get 1,3 mh/s on 40 watts. Perhaps if something similar comes along...

Btw, terribad is an awesome word.

Might be, but it's a moot point since I'm going use it the way GPUs were meant to now, gaming :)

There is about .007 right now for the group in ghash.io from the Gridseed, I'll try to get that out and send it.  Will be sold soon and profits split up.
