I just received 2 satoshis in 2 separate transactions , from addresses

which is very nice and whoever it is has obviously sent to 100's of addresses.

But what has me is this is a paper wallet address which should have never reached the internet and I am wondering where he has gotten my public address from?

could anyone help?

Advertising their site/services. When you get a weird TX like this, naturally you follow the source which redirects you to their site.

The blockchain is public... if you've sent BTC to that address, then it's public.

Have you used it for anything? I've only used my one for payment from my PD sig, so they either got it from this forum or the blockchain.

thats kind of him to be so generous and give away the coin that way. he may have some like of wallet address generator and just sends money to random wallets

People in the other thread are making out like it's something more suspicious like people are trying to find out your addresses etc. Not sure how that would work any way.

they are zero confirmed and confirmed as not double spend by blockchain
this is now widely reported in many places

I got it from both of these.  Weird.  I assume it was from the forum somehow.  It's a little disconcerting for some reason.

How long will the transactions take to confirm or will the just disappear eventually?

I think if the sender keeps on re-broadcasting it, they will remain in the wallets with 0 confirmation
Once the re-broadcasting stops, it will be dropped in a week (my guess) because the tx is simply too big for a 0.0001 fee,
no miner will accept the tx.

I think the software already deals with this, every node only keeps a limited list of pending transactions, and kicks out the ones with lowest priority if the list is full

Yep, have these aswell for 2 days. These are definitely ads from a gambling site.
Judging by the time the other spam disappear from the queue (3 days),
these should disappear from all wallets tomorrow (I hope).


Unless the core dev decide to do something about it (like tweeking node relay rules),
I believe it will continue because it is free advertising and has proven to be very effective so far.

If your address has funds on it, or ever had funds on it, then it is public.

I have a crazy theory. What if it's the NSA gleaning information as people post their tx, thus allowing them to know who you are?

Most people don't seem to be posting them, just saying they got them.

ALL addresses are public, as long as there is at least 1 satoshi in it or ever had a balance.

I got a random 1 satoshi deposit literally 30 minutes after I first created the address. It was 25 minutes after I made a deposit to that address.  This is getting weirder and weirder.  They must be just sitting there, or have a script to send it to any new address?

Bitcoin is not anonymous, the blockchain is public. All transactions are recorded in the blockchain, this is how bitcoin works. Anyone can see the balance of any address that has ever successfully interacted with the blockchain and trace back any transactions ever made with that address quite easily and also monitor that address into the future. If you have coins in your paper wallet, how exactly did they get there without being confirmed by the blockchain?

Assuming this is true and you are behind it, your stupid attack did cause damage.   Not everyone's software was able to handle the transactions that would never confirm and it is impossible to estimate how many hours of time were lost because of these attacks.   I almost lost .12 BTC because a vendors software couldn't credit my balance because it this.  You should only feel shame.

 Hi hilarious and co  ,Will they really just disappear? or will they go back to the original 2 addresses where they will accumulate back up to whatever amount was originally loaded(Im assuming millions of addresses were spammed by the same 2 addresses)  and be available to be spent again?   That's what I was wanting to know.

They'll disappear from your wallet and return to the original sender.

They will be available for the miscreant to spend again.

Just got two dust payments from 1SochiWwFFySPjQoi2biVftXn8NRPCSQC.

They were sent to prior addresses I had used at btc-e, and an address I used previously here in the forums via private messaging.

People may call it spam, yeah, I guess it is. But since people are opening up threads about this, shows that it is working rather well. They got a pretty decent exposure.

This is called dust, it may be done because of marketing and advertising or to stress the blockchain,who knows
