Title: For Bounty Hunters (Do You Have Time to Read the ICO Whitepaper?
Post by: jjeeppeerrxx on July 06, 2018, 03:13:48 AM
First of all let me ask if What is a Whitepaper? The answer according to Howtotoken.com:

By the power of example, you know what it is. A written document to better understand the technical project behind an ICO. But the whitepaper isn’t restricted to ICOs or crypto-space. A whitepaper is a document long used in business.

According to Wikipedia:

“A white paper is an authoritative report or guide that informs readers concisely about a complex issue and presents the issuing body’s philosophy on the matter. It is meant to help readers understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.”

Which describes its use the best. It “helps readers understand”, is an informational document meant to deliver you the best information without the PR and marketing filter of the promotional content we get to find on websites, flyers, or advertisement

Lets go back to the question, Do you still have time to read the whitepaper before entering into a bounty campaign of certain ICO? I am very curious why a lot of bounty hunters regrets that they did their best to promote a project thru social media campaign and end up being scam.

Is reading the Whitepaper helps a bounty hunter avoid being scam by scam projects?
Do you really read the Whitepaper or just relying on referral of other bounty hunters?

I always read the white paper.I create content.Namely, create a video. How can I create a video if I have no idea what this project is.I think the same situation with writing articles. The rest of the bounty members I think don't do that.A well-written white paper is just an excuse to treat the company well.

Ofcourse you need to read the whitepaper before joining in bounties the first reason is to know the idea of that project if that is different from the already existing project then it will have more worth but many projects were just copy of other so it is not worth and the chance of scam as well. But to be honest most of the bounty hunters don't know about anything they will just join in the bounties and start promoting.

Sometimes I do read the whitepaper but it doesn't exactly clarify many things to someone who's not deep into the topic. And it's also not a guarantee of anything, either successful either unsuccessful project. Projects with bad whitepapers will succeed, projects with perfect whitepapers (and ideas in general) will fail.

To be honest I did not read some of the white paper of ICO projects because it is not the basis for me for a good project. I have joined lots of bounty campaign and some of them have bad white paper but able to succeed on the crpytocurrency market.

Reading the whitepaper is a virtue for bounty hunter as it will be the basis where investor will invest their money in the project. A well thought whitepaper along with the timely execution of the roadmap is sometimes a deal breaker to most investors and it would tell the quality that the developers and the management puts to provide a good service or value that the investor would woulnt to see.

One of the reasons for me participating in any bounty depends on the whitepaper, I try as much to read what the project entails and every information the whitepaper displays, this makes me confident to embark on bounty and this has really helped overtime, it reduces to the barest minimum for me falling for a scam bounty.

Reading the white paper is really a very practical way to distinguish good and bad bounty tasks! I generally read the white paper, but I won't read it too detailed! Because I will combine other factors to decide whether to make this bounty!

You probably all know the answer to the question. Let's have a look at a few characteristics of bounty hunters that I've come to know just from reading this forum.

They generally say nothing specific about the project, just "how great it is" and what a "wonderful team and solid dev" or generic comments like that. They even spell things wrong, they invest 0 amounts into the project. The bounty ends and they are in a new project the very same day. They are able to offer nothing if you ask them questions, just tell you to "refer to the whitepaper".

On the other hand, have you seen whitepapers recently? They look less and less philosophical, more and more generic, less and less technical, more and more marketing. Whitepapers used to be written by tech people, now they are done by marketing people.

How is that even possible.  I read thoroughly through the whitepaper and view the website examine the team before going for any bounty.  I wouldn't want to do charity work you know.

Trust and fully trust the opinion of other hunters for bounty in no case impossible. Everyone should make his own decision after reading the white paper, as this is the most important project document. Time to read white paper should always be highlighted.

Bounty hunters are the type of people who can't even spell 'Bounty or stakes' properly. I can easily quote a few examples where idiots call it 'steaks'. Reading the white paper is far beyond their level. If they had the technical knowledge to read and understand a white-paper, they would be investors and not bounty whores.

Yes of course, you need to read it so you can have all of information about their project. It takes time but it is really good so you can assure if the campaign is legit. Do not forget to read the ICO whitepaper. It can really help you to choose the right bounty. The real one who pays the participants. It's better to waste your time reading the whitepaper than wasting your time participating in some shit bounty.

Lots of criteria to choose a good bounty in order to avoid a scam. including by reading whitepaper carefully.
I am sure, there is written various kinds of information related to the project that we will follow. it really helps.
and the rest, I chose a team from a project to study because a team with an unclear background can cause a scam sign on a project.

I think that almost bounty hunters don't really care about reading WP of ICO project behind each bounty campaign :)). They just care about how much money these projects collected in presale or dev team or how many tokens spent for bounty campaign :)). It's the main reason why there are so many complaints about scam bounty campaign :))

an obligation to read the first whitepapers if you want to participate in the ICO project, to analyze in depth to convince the existence of the project, the amount of fraud is very risky for a long time in vain, do not be too lazy to read and analyze if you do not want to get waste projects and get no reward whatsoever.

ICO whitepaper is need your time to read. It helps to understand the project but it is not the basis if the project become successful or not. Sometime those ICO with nice project proposal written on their whitepaper did not success when it comes to the market and those you think that the project is not good but it become successful when it hit to the market. Because ICO success is base on the acceptance in the market. Well, sometimes i also read the whitepaper to have more understanding the project before i joined bounty.

I thought I was the only one who found it funny, that I keep seeing steak, or even sticks. Now I know people say we shouldn't make fun of languages, but these bounty hunters have been hunting bounties for months, and still cannot even spell the most used word in bounties. English is also not my first language, so I know even I had to improve my English but I tried a lot, so there's no excuse.

Reading whitepaper is not even what I would ask them to try. They can't even spell their own names and project names correctly, and they just blabber about their projects with no concept. Then these same guys flood the forums later complaining about wrong deposits and how they got scammed. Ironic that majority of bounty hunters who call scam are actually scamming tokens from projects themselves.

Yeah i always read whitepaper by reading it helps me recognize legit and scam bounty task and to understand the technology regarding the project. We bounty hunters are promoters we promote the project its very important how the project works. what if someone would asked how the project works and what brings to the technology and we cannot answer it we look like ignorant.

reading whitepaper an ico project is very important to know good or not the ico project that we will follow it's bounty program. because for me a successful ico project will definitely give good results for bounty participants. and an attractive whitepaper is very influential for the success of an ico project because from there its usualy investors can find out the products offered by the developer, and what are the long-term plans of the development team

Are you sure you can identify a fraudulent project from its documentation? I think that's unlikely. Documentation can be ordered from professionals. And you will think that the project is worthwhile.
On the other hand, there were many projects with poor documentation. But the coins cost much higher than the purchase price.. The fact is that around the projects was a big HYIP.

Reading the white paper feels like reading an End User Agreement before installing a program. It is sometimes long and complex to understand especially if you are not tech savvy.I prefer to read the FAQs on the project website which sometimes contain a simplified version of the white paper before joining the bounty.

It was going to mvest then I would extra time to read it because I am putting an investments and I wanna make sure that my invesents won't go to waste. But I guess it is preferred to read whitepaper for us to educate of the projects and how would it affect to our community.

I don't know if I am a qualified bounty hunter. My participation in the bounty is not blind. At least I need a preliminary screening activity.
When I found an interesting bounty event, the first thing I did was to find a variety of information about the project,
and the white paper was a good and useful reference.
If you want to improve your bounty benefits, in a sense, spending some time in the early stage is to save yourself more time.

actually we certainly have plenty of time to analyze an ICO or bounty program by reading their white paper, but usually we do not care about it, often we just ignore it. as if white paper is useless. but it is an important thing to learn from an ICO project

I think just a little number of bounty hunters care about reading Whitepaper of ICO project behind bounty campaign. I also don't wanna read as well but I have my other way to check if it's a good project or not like check traffic of their ICO website, check their social media network account like Facebook/Twitter/Medium/Reddis and their telegram group to see how active dev team are, check amount of ETH and BTC collected from private sale, presale,.....

honestly most of the bounty that I do, I do not read the whitepaper, just do it unless I make the blog content.
but we should take the time to read and understand the project we are going to market. so we better understand about the project and to reduce the risk of participating in the scam project. so not only investors who have to read a whitepaper

I do not always read the white paper bounty projects in which I participate, although it must be done to better know the projects that are promoting. However, well-written technical documents do not guarantee that the project will not be fraudulent or a failure.

reading white paper gives an idea of the technical part of the project, but the guarantee that this does not scam it does not. the study of white paper is one of the criteria for choosing a bounty of the campania. When I choose ICO projects to join a signature campaign, I usually carefully read their website, which also outlines the philosophy of the ICO problem and the issues that it addresses, as well as other issues that interest me. I also skim through other ICO documents. I focus on the topic, which sets out the conditions for joining the ICO project. This, as a rule, is enough to make a decision.

Yes I do read projects' white paper that I do promote and I always do this in other to have the knowledge of what I am doing and why I should promote that project. Many of the bounties avalible are not good for promotion as there are scam projects and I don't want to work for free for any projects so I select the projects I promote by studying the white paper.

If someone is serious in Cryto World & about its investments, hardwork he should properly read & understand the Whitepaper. To analyze the depth of the project it is important. But mostly Bounty Hunters dosen’t care about Whitepaper they are just interested what the project is offering to them for their campaigning.

I just read the whitepaper because I need it to do social media campaign. Whitepaper is just a project idea introduction. And it don't help you avoid being scam. If you want to avoid scammer, you can see their news, their marketing, their social or their interaction with the community. Scammers can also write a perfect whitepaper.

-snip-

You're absolutely right. I also can't stand reading these generic comments saying "great project good team buy tokens soon moon" about every project. I just can't get why managers still accept them. And the truth is you don't even need to read the WP from the beginning till the end to write something special, the main page of the website is enough in most cases.

When analyzing bounty projects, I spend some time looking at whitepaper, I can not say that I thoroughly study it, but I look through it superficially for sure. It helps a lot when the project has a lightpaper

You don't necessarily need to read the whitepaper to understand whether a project is likely to be a failure or success. That should only be the case when there isn't enough information on their website. If the website lacks a team page, road map and also typically an MVP, then you can just skip right ahead unless it has some big backing behind it.

- Unfortunately, reading the whitepaper did not give us a guarantee to be able to avoid the scam projects!
- Sometimes I read the whitepaper and sometimes not. Reading all the content of the whitepaper makes me saturated.

For now, I never read the whitepaper anymore. For joining in a campaign, I just wait for the trusted bounty manager to publish a new campaign.

You don't necessarily need to read the whitepaper to understand whether a project is likely to be a failure or success.
Agree! Because in my opinion, who should understand the contents of whitepapers are the investors before they make an investment in the related projects.

Reading white paper is a must, why? because you would able to picture out or do know the entire purpose and plans of a certain project either it would be good or not for long term prospects or having just an another unrealistic goals just like on what we have seen on most project nowadays. Therefore, if you do summarize it all then you can already presume on what would actions would you made.
Hearing others recommendations arent bad as long you had known or have research into the project had been proposed.

help avoid the scam doesn't seem to naturally and not entirely true. but at least it could reduce the risk of loss which exists. the whitepaper is important to at least be assured of being able to choose the project and certainly many who use this for consideration. but many also ignore the whitepaper and just following other people only.

Bounty Campaings are an investment of your time. So you should treat it like investing your money into an ICO, which means that reading te whitepaper is one of the most important things that you can do. From reading the Whitepaper you can figure it out if a project is likely to succeed or not.

Not at all. If I was putting money into the project then I would understand why I have to read the whitepaper to know what is going on with the project but if I am signing up for a bounty what I do is to check through the creators page to make sure that they are really working on it. Also I look at the road map for the project, that gives a good idea for what they are working on regarding the future of the coin.

Reading whitepaper is important to save time from scam ICOs or low profile ICOs. What I said low profile is that their altcoin has no chance to pump instead it will collapse until $0. Whitepaper is boring to read but once you are used on reading it, it would help you get rid of trash ICOs to stole money without notice like they are not doing a working product and you as an investor has no idea that the ICO is already dead while you are sitting in front of your device waiting for pump. To prevent this situation then try your best to read and understand the whitepaper.

Whether social media, blog or translation it is necessary to read it for a better representation. I read all Whitepapers I am involved in. Some are large up to 70pages but recently about just 25pages.

Well as a bounty hunter i make sure that i read every bit of the whitepaper to come out with a great content so that my work is not rejected as a copy and paste. Reading the whitepaper also lets you know whether you should sell tokens as soon as possible or hold till project is launched.

Agree that reading the information, the whitepaper from the ico project will give us an overview of the project, help us to realize what this project will bring, value in practice or just a junk project, from there, we will make better decisions in choosing to participate and not participate, avoid wasting time. However, I think not too many people have time as you because bounty hunters are not the main job of many people, they do not need to put too much time into it when they only participate in social campaigns, unless I join the signature campaign, I will read the whitepaper, if not, I think I only consider reviews from other people.

Yes that is right as the whitepaper says a lot about any project and you can easily detect scam projects as most of them are even too lazy to draft their own whitepaper or they just copy and paste other peoples own. The whitepaper as well helps us see their roadmap and know what exactly it is that they tend o achieve and their approach to achieving that. Whitepaper is a good material for understanding any project at all.

Read whitepaper not helping from scam but to understand how to develop the project depend their knowledge and calculation.
I disagree with you on this, few bounty hunters would be what you qualified them with. I do hunt for bounty and I can’t do without reading through white paper before participating in any project for the fact that I can’t just waste my precious time. Moreover, I do write articles, no way I would do that in the absence of white paper knowledge

I know the fact that reading the whitepaper may somewhat help us to prevent being scammed by those ICOs. But then, there are times that I admit being lazy reading those, because honestly, most of them were just copied  from  the others.  Technically, when someone is smart enough, just by reading whitepaper, you can easily spot which is just fraud from sincere one.

The whitepaper is a technical analysis of the project itself which not everyone can understand clearly. Experience in the cryptocurrency market helps in this case. I usually check the whitepaper initially before deciding whether or not to join a particular bounty campaign. No one can accurately say that a particular bounty is legit or scam based on the whitepaper itself, but it does help to analyse and check what the project is about. I usually clarify my doubts with the team through telegram.

I don't think that all the bounty hunters have enough expertise that they can evaluate an ICO through a whitepaper. Whitepaper is extremely technical and everyone can't understand that. Moreover, a good Whitepaper doesn't guarantee an excellent project. Scammers can also create a decent Whitepaper and if the company is legit, they might not be able to keep par with their whitepaper.

A written piece of technical document doesn't guarantee a shit!

Is reading the Whitepaper helps a bounty hunter avoid being scam by scam projects?
YES. It is not a guarantee but it will lessen the chances of getting scammed.

Do you really read the Whitepaper or just relying on referral of other bounty hunters?
It is better to atleast spend time to scan the whitepaper before deciding whether to promote it or not. After all, friends and followers on social media who are new to crypto will see them might want to invest just because they saw you promoting it.

IMO, reading the whitepaper does not always help the Hunter avoid being scammed by scam projects. Scam projects are probably the once with a well constructed and decent whitepapers out there. But, YES! I read whitepapers of ICOs before I invest my time in them, I don't rely on my referees intuitions because we all have different ways understanding things especially how technical the whitepaper is. I read, make my own researches and follow my instincts on whether to invest my time in that bounty.

Ofcourse you need to read the whitepaper before joining in bounties the first reason is to know the idea of that project if that is different from the already existing project then it will have more worth but many projects were just copy of other so it is not worth and the chance of scam as well. But to be honest most of the bounty hunters don't know about anything they will just join in the bounties and start promoting.

Besides you've got an idea of what kind of project are you going to join, you can also get other information in the whitepaper and the rules in that ICO. It's also gives an idea who's back up that project are they really capable or they have the credibility to continue and finish certain projects. That's what important is whitepaper.

I really do not have time to read the whitepaper as it takes a lot of time. With bounty campaigns I just look at the people who are handling the campaign to know if they have been associated with scam bounties before. Then I guess I take some time to look at their website and also look online to see their rating and what people are saying about the project in general

Honestly whitepaper is very important in all projects so reading the white paper is a step forward.
But nowadays most bounty hunters don't read the white paper any more
They just participate in the project without reading the white paper.

Reading the whitepaper is a must before entering serious bounty campaign which requires a lot of work. It is actually one of the last steps I do when selecting a project. Firstly I filter the projects with the help of pages like icobench and some friends. Then when I am left with only few projects I dive into them deeply and read the whitepaper. Maybe not whole but more than 50% for sure. You can skip over some parts usually.

Now, some investors barely read the shit out of the whitepaper of theses ICOs, what they do is invest in some hype or overhyped ICOs. Even tho some whitepapers are trash, I bet you can still find something useful in them.

Whitepapers are usually long and super boring, and really might be tiring to read. I think and I believe that a lot of people do not actually read these things, not even investors. Maybe a few lines, but they are done once they get an insight on what it is about. Besides, whitepapers may just be as deceiving as it may these days, cos most of the scams projects have even more convincing whitepapers.

Yup, long and super boring are the right description for that whitepaper. Honestly i am just relying more on the campaign managers to know whether it is a scam or not and they should know first because they are already veterans here in crypto. Whitepapers maybe deceiving to some as scammers will try to copy paste everything from a good project and make it their own.

I read white paper if the project is interested or to understand how serious it is. It is clear that when I'm looking for a project to participate I do not reread everything. And already when the project has liked, one-two, partially I read.
Also when I'm already in the project to write posts in social networks - I use information from white paper.

I also check the road map and the team of the project. But the white paper is the most important whatever its meaning in Wikipedia. The content of it is the most important.

For it is important for all Bounty participants to go through the Whitepaper of interested projects they are embarking on. It us the guidelines and also shows the direction the project is going to. Aside whitepaper I also find interest in reading the light paper is there is any available to have more knowledge about the project.

WP is a useless piece of 'paper' until a project releases its workable prototype. If there is no minimum value product then there is no belief to the ICO. IF there is no belief then you should not waste your time to read its wp.

A great whitepaper doesn't guarantee the project won't be scam or a failure. Whitepaper is an initial representation of the project and its vision and what the developer are trying to accomplish. I've followed and read whitepapers from several good projects and theirs vision to disrupt a certain industry and some of them failed to deliver. None of bounty hunters would notice if the project is scam or legit. Because the scammers are also becoming smart and also evolved and came up with different tactics. If one red flag for a certain project was spoted then it's time to drop the bounty program and spread it to every bounty hunters and to avoid of being scam.

I think at the very least read the whitepaper is required. though not fully able to make this encyclopedia of scam at least this will minimize the risk to get caught up in the scam. but sometimes a great many who ignored this and sure enough many are caught up in the scam. Despite the small things like whitepaper but at least made a good reference even in this whitepaper will be seen a clear goal of the ICO are indeed worthy of being followed or just a scam anyway.
