Title: HELP! ExchB to Bitcoin Wallet timeframe?
Post by: bretac on October 02, 2011, 05:48:32 AM
I withdrew some bitcoins from ExchangeBitcoins.com and sent them to my bitcoin wallet. That was over 8 hours ago. How long does it usually take to get to a wallet? It's the first time I've used that site in combination with a wallet.

Also, does it matter if my computer/the wallet program isn't running all the time? I had it on when I first made the transfer, waited 30 minutes, then turned off my computer. Is that a problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi bretac,

Has your client downloaded the latest blocks? You need about 147,735 blocks to have all the newest blocks. If you just started using a wallet or have had it offline for a long time, most likely you just have to wait until your client downloads them. Use the block explorer to find your transaction on the block chain. Or post your receiving address here and someone will help you.

It takes awhile.  Keep bitcoin running and once it gets to the right amount of blocks you get your coin.

I haven't run the wallet in a long time. Didn't realize I didn't have all the blocks. I'm only at 13800 blocks. I guess I have quite a bit longer to wait. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi bretac,

Waiting for the initial blocks to download is quit frustrating. There really should be a fix for this. Hopefully someone is working on this for a later update. Downloads of the blockchain do exist but you have to trust them and know where to place them in you files.

You don't need your wallet online or computer running to receive bitcoins but you do need to have downloaded the blocks that include your transactions in order to see them in your wallet. A new block is created about every 10 minutes.

It looks like you do need to wait awhile. I use ExchB and never had a problem; you should receive you bitcoins in your wallet after you download all the blocks without a problem.
