Title: Btctalk app
Post by: yishak on July 13, 2018, 07:59:20 AM
An app for BTCtalk would be great for those of us who are away from PC most of the time. A lot of people here are good at coding so I think many people might offer to make this app if the mods ask to..

This has been discussed on Meta a couple of times at least:

Bitcointalk in a mobile app (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2144807.msg21455278#msg21455278)
Bitcointalk mobile app  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2476640.20)
In the first few posts you'll se why it has not been created.

A month ago, someone did actually develop and post here a link to an android app he has developped unofficially to access Bitcointalk (Bitcointalk Mobile Friendly App for Android (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4500633.msg40504389#msg40504389)), but I personally would not trust any third-party software that has any chance of getting a glimpse at your credentials.

Why do we need an app, wouldn't responsive code be sufficient?

I also think we need a mobile friendly version of bitcointalk( I always use my mobile for bitcointalk and I think my two thumbs need some rest espcially when zooming :D) but not an app. I have found a nice thread started way back in 2013 by "Logik" and I really interested about his approch, but I couldn't found any recent updates about it.

I actually don't know why "Theymos" doesn't interested at all about the concept of mobile friendly version of bitcointalk.

<snip>

Yeah third party apps making so much vulnerable for hacking and so I also didn't take that risk. That's why I believed the mobile version should comes from an official way. I don't think it's too hard in these days with the technological developments in web design sector.

The forum can be accessed via a mobile phone just fine the way it is imo.
Tbh I’m not too keen on the new forum software coming in any way, I like things I’m familiar with. If we all of a sudden get a new swanky, all singing, all dancing forum it’ll take me a while to get used to  ???

Don't you know that bitcointalk is awailable not only on the computer? I use the forum from my phone like in 95% of cases. I think nowadays everybody hold their phones in hands like nonstop and all modern smartphones make the use of the forum easy to use. So, I do not see any special need in the app when it's possible to open the forum in the browser.

The idea is not bad, we can log in the facebook or twitter website from our phone. But if we download the app, because it is easy to use. So making the bitcoin-talk more handy or easy to use, MODERATOR OR STAFF MEMBER can think about this idea.

You can use a minimalist version of the forum.

I think what people always asked for was TapaTalk (https://www.tapatalk.com/). But so far it does not work.

They have thought about this and let the idea pass.  They are now thinking of more important things.
