Not against the rules, but a DT member will probably neg trust him because of this.

Well, this is just pathetic. By this, probably the user will end in the ignored list of many so he will not receive a single merit
This is not the first case of this stupid behavior I've seen, it is, actually, kind of common.

You could just PM him (or her) and tell them it's frowned upon and that they should consider removing it. I'd rather it there than in posts though. It's not begging I don't think, just as people who put their bitcoin address in their PT and ask for donations or whatever. Nobody will probably give them merit just like nobody would send anyone bitcoin donations.

I thought someone will use my own words against me. That personal message is not begging for Merit. I can justify that by quoting threads that states "Donations are appreciated" with BTC/ETH address included. If my personal message is considered begging then people with "Donations bla bla bla" are also begging.

I don't think this kind of message is necessary as you don't need to "allow" anyone to merit you. If you deserve merit, people will merit you.

It's not begging but I really dislike this kind of behavior.

Others may see it differently, but I don't see this as begging.  What I consider begging is sending PMs asking for merits and asking for merits in threads.  What this guy is doing is probably just as bad, but I see it as basically the same as asking for a donation in your signature, and I've seen that a number of times and those people don't get tagged for begging.  And I doubt this person is going to get a tag for having a merit request in a signature.

Having said that, it's annoying that people want something for nothing.  Give me merit, just because I should have it.  Meanwhile he's a typical shitposter of the "bitcoin has a bright future" variety and is posting in shitty spam megathreads where nobody is earning merit.  I'm sure he doesn't realize where the problem is.

Quite the same, from my perspective, and since your asking for personal opinion, to me there is an unnecessary statement, a lack of elegance. For instance, I will not merit you if I read that in your profile, as I wouldn't merit the other guy, for I truly dislike this kind of behaviour (again, my personal opinion).


Totally, I just can't see the point. I don't know, every time I see this kind of messages into a profile information I use to think "This guy is just seeking for merits in every thread he creates", so no merit from me. It is against the merit spirit, from my perspective.

I think it is not allowing, it's "encouraging" ::)

Others seeing this differently is the main reason why I asked. I, personally, see this as begging based from the context. I don't intend him/her be tagged since he/she would eventually tagged if a DT member see his/her post. Nonetheless, approval from reputable person here is what I seek and was addressed.

No, I don't think so. Begging addresses and ref links aren't allowed in posts, but they're fine in signatures or personal texts. I don't really see an issue with the reminder in their PT, but I think it's largely pointless. If you make good posts you'll probably get the merit anyway, but I think it's likely to have a counterproductive effect and many people won't merit after seeing the message.

I don’t think there is too much doubt. It is begging, just in a passive manner. Every day, I go by a couple of homeless people who have a cardboard explaining their situation. Sad as it may be, the cardboard text asks for economical collaboration and is begging by all means.
There is a difference though between passive begging and active aggressive begging. The former you can chose whether you want to help out or not, while the latter invades your personal space and often becomes aggressive. Either way, it’s merit begging in this case I’d say.

I see it as "indirect way of begging" (deserves a negative rating):
- This user isn't just hoping for someone to notice that and merit him/her in exchange for a merit worthy post but instead, he/she is indirectly (by giving the idea) requesting for someone to do it (for something that he/she doesn't deserve - your case is the first one but that doesn't mean it's fine either).

I'm not a merit source so not to big a deal but ding ding ding on the bold.  Honestly if I saw a post from a user with this it would absolutely make me think twice about meriting his posts.  TBH it would take an above average post (IMO) to get merit from me with that info flying high!

Call Jet Cash, he will make you think 100 times, and create a thread about it, and ask if its okay to merit the person accused or not.  ;D

There are people much worse than this guy here, they are sending PMs to high ranked trusted members for merit. That is what begging would mean, this is not begging.

Ya I agree with the general sentiment of the thread, it's not different that a BTC addy there, ie not begging, just annoying LOL!  8)

The fact is you're a merit beggar yourself and we see it every time you post (spam you said?) :P

Merit talking seems to have become the new racism. If you dare to mention the "M" word, then you run the risk of being accused of being a merit beggar. As far as I can see, the biggest advantage in being a Legendary, is that you don't get accused of begging for merits, it takes the "me" out of "merit" :)

This is the OP profile information. I have some mixed feelings about the matter: on one hand, the OP is asking if another user's behavior is ok when he's doing quite the same. On the other hand, when this "merit" persecution is going to come to an end? Since when Torquemada has come back to life?

I can remember getting into trouble for putting "LAMP" in my profile, where LAMP stood for " Legendary Awaiting Merit Points". Well now I am a LUMP - Legendary Upranked by Merit Points. :)
