does anyone have (or could make) screenshots of very early bitcoin client software?

for those of us that just got started this year, were the early versions (pre 0.3) much different in looks/functionality?

i'd be interested to see what the very first ones looked like.

The biggest difference is the notes field an ip based transactions.

when satoshi first introduced bitcoin, did he write a gui?

The GUI have not changed much and this is good! If it works then don't fix it!

No that's bad. It means there's a lack of innovation. Everything can be improved.

There is small step from improving to bloating software. Just like Michael Jackson started with anal bleaching and it got out of control...

Look what Skype have become. The free software is less prone to bloating and pokemonization, but examples exist, such as Azureus.

How about not having to wait 24 hours to download the block chain to be able to use it? How about transfering BTC's being instant instead of waiting 1-2 hours until 6 verifications?

How about making the UI less Linuxy and more like an Apple UI? Easy to use for everyone. If I have to read a manual/FAQ to figure out how to use it then it is already a failure.

it uses bitcoinj and downloads only the blockheaders (like the android wallet on my phone) should be much faster to get started.

And the confirmations thing is just the way it is designed, still much better than a bank which can take days.

You can download the block chain manually from the archive... but I agree that it would be nice if the client did that for you automatically. ie. on first time start up, get the block chain archive and do a rescan operation, rather than build it block by block from peers.

My credit/debit card is instant.

It's also only one-way - take money out and not put money in. And mine costs me $7 each time I make an international ATM withdraw (my normal use). Sure, BTC doesn't excel at all uses, and currently it barely excels at some, but it has the potential to excel at many and unlike a credit card you aren't being tracked and managed by your overlords. You don't need to register with them for the privilege of use - anyone can grab an address/key and start using it, even some hill tribe villager sitting at a web cafe (if they only knew). Amazing.

That may be how it looks from the user's prospective, but if you asked a business, they'd tell you that credit cards actually take days.
