Title: Little advice for the newbies or how to make btalk a better place
Post by: ssteinb86 on July 17, 2018, 09:20:38 AM
Dear fellow newbies!

Although I’m a beginner myself, it is really not a rocket science to figure out the basic rules and not to post rubbish content. I check the forum quite regularly and almost every day a new “how to get merit” topic arises followed by the same answers about the quality content. Obviously, one can simply ignore such posts but it messes up the forum and makes it a lot harder to navigate and educate yourself.

However, there are few things we could all do about it:

  • First and most important, you have to clearly define the main reason why are you here and what are you trying to achieve and stick to it. And if you’re planning on spamming or suchlike, there’s literally no chance you’ll go throw with this. Don’t waste time on pointless activities - there won’t be a reward for that.
  • Read the pinned topics - you will find all the necessary info there, I promise. Including how to get merit.
  • Before starting a thread - check if a similar discussion has previously arisen. As simple as that.
  • Be patient and invest time into learning. You will be awarded with merit, status and biscuits later.

Bitcointalk is a forum for discussing deep and complex subject, and obviously you are required to have a certain level of self discipline and intelligence in order to succeed.  I understand, the idea of clean and tidy forum is slightly Utopian but we can all try a little harder to make life a little easier.

Really very good advice! I fully support the point about investing in studies. Without good knowledge, no work will succeed. And this knowledge can be properly received at this forum.

Good read. But you also need to prove and actually do it starting by yourself. How can we make this forum healthy if we post a nonsense one-liner reply, it is also considered as shitpost. For example, we don't need to type "I agree" just to express in public that you say yes to one's opinion. I think you forgot that in order to have a healthy discussion, we must post in honesty and we make sure that we are relating to the topic.

Cannot argue with that, useless comments can be pretty disturbing. Although we all have to start with something and simple "I agree" once helped me break the silence after couple of months of mute observation. Opinionated (reasonably though) comments can be a harmless start. But surely enough without exploitation and off-tops.
