Do you reckon Mastercard know anything about how to improve the functionality of an actual blockchain? I'm doubtful. And it's not as if any of the main coins would accept a Mastercard fork either. Fiat spending is their business.

I expect it'll be just the same as an existing crypto debit card. You deposit your BTC with them, or presumably some partner like Coinbase, and you spend the balance.

"fractional reserves of blockchain currency" is an unfortunate turn of phrase. I presume that means you're spending fractions of your Bitcoin reserve through them. I don't like the alternative interpretation.

of a truth "better days are yet to come " I pity those that keep dumping they holding because of panic. This is just the beginning and we may have company like visa and verve adopting blockchain very soon.  At list bitcoin has done well in 2017 because of the positive news like this and we still expect the same thing to happen this year 2018.

Ultimately this is what is going to happen and I wonder what banks that have always frowning at people using bitcoin without any basis would want to fight this. Because they themselves relies on the infrastructure of MasterCard and Visa for them to even make more money from customers use of this platform with MasterCard and Visa I wonder if banks would be able to get money from ATM charges and every online transactions made possible with card numbers.

I also envisage some behind the scene conflict as the ability to link wallets to MasterCard would surely mean rapid acceptance as they would find away to make it acceptable for every platform that MasterCard is accepted today. This would surely dip into the revenue of banks which would in turn affects the taxes they would pay to government and that is not something to be taken lightly.

The fractional reserve on Blockchain  is an interesting idea I have thought about too. That is, putting in good use the huge amount of wealth that is stored in Crypto. You could loan out thousands of Bitcoin not owned by you to  businesses/companies.  But that goes against the idea of Crypto which is to make people have total control over their Crypto.
Could easily work if the Company/Bank owns the Node with people's Cryptocurrency or through the use of private "Blockchain"... the  kind of blockchain Governments and Banks would love.

For those people who does not know what Fractional-reserve banking is, it is the practice whereby a bank accepts deposits, makes loans or investments, but is required to hold reserves equal to only a fraction of its deposit liabilities. Reserves are held as currency in the bank, or as balances in the bank's accounts at the central bank.

The banks use fractional reserve systems so they can lend out 90% of money that is deposited. That's how we have so little paper money in comparison to digital money floating around. The banks don't ever have to print most of it.

So if Mastercard starts creating transaction out of bitcoin that doesn't exist... it doesn't become bitcoin anymore. It's turning that 21 million coin limit into 21 billion. They're trying to make it another banker's weapon.

Lots of companies and banks are talking about this, yes, but not a lot of them are actually doing something. This is more experimentation because they are not sure what they are getting into exactly. But we can't declare victory so quickly. You don't know exactly what terms these banks and companies are going to enter on. They will want gains on their own ends, which may not mean good things for bitcoin.
