Definitely good news. Most likely going to create more liquidity in the market for hopefully lower volatility.

Still fingers crossed for the ETF though, even though some people are saying that the rate of success is low.

Ya Unlike the CBOE futures These will be settled in BTC not dollars, Plus ICE doing Custody and Insurance, this will be HUGGEE. ;D

Bitcoin being treated as an asset / commodity is the best scenario from a legal point of view. This will guarantee liquidity, while not taking away the total control of who owns Bitcoin. That's the way it's going, and maybe that means BTC-backed currencies.

Vow ; great news.  Stock exchange launching bitcoin market.  So bitcoin market / crypto market will be the next form of stock markets.  I think stocks for companies will be issued in crypto currency coins.  so future is bright.  definitely good news.

That name.....Bakkt ... :-\

But the most important part:

Quote

Now, this a real game changer!!
Unlike CME in which no real bitcoins are traded and the settlements are in $ this will be a lot more interesting, you'll have to come up with the coins!!!

Forget SEC, Samsung and all the BMW accepting bitcoin fake news.
For the very first time in what it felt like ages, I'm really feeling a bit bullish :P

And this time the news is real, Reuters (https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-ice-cryptocurrency-bakkt/nyse-owner-ice-to-form-new-company-for-digital-assets-idUKKBN1KO1QN) also quoted them

Quote
“As the flagship retailer, Starbucks will play a pivotal role in developing practical, trusted and regulated applications for consumers to convert their digital assets into U.S. dollars for use at Starbucks,” Maria Smith, vice president, partnerships and payments for Starbucks, said in a statement.

Starbucks already is bigger that some banks (https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/08/01/starbucks-holds-more-cash-than-many-banks-infographic/#65230de3231a) when it comes to their cards, imagine the option in turning those to BTC  8)

Yeah I read this news a while ago and its pretty obvious with these big companies working together to also adapt cryptocurrencies in the world, They know bitcoin price will still increase and it's very popular with people nowadays, This could be a good news for bitcoin for people and investors like us to use it more.

it seems like this is good news, where BTC starts to be accepted by several platforms
it seems that BTC's steps must be like this, where it is not possible for everyone to simultaneously accept BTC, but it needs to go through some careful consideration of the parties concerned

yeah, i saw this news yesterday on Reddit. it is great, and the bitcoin world has been filled with positive news like this for a while now but there still is some forces in the market that are preventing the rise from taking place and i am not just talking about manipulation although that is a part of it. mainly it is the fear and the fact that people are waiting for the move to start first before joining in. and also waiting for this ETF nonsense to come to a conclusion because they are afraid of what may happen and are greedy for the possibility of a tiny big cheaper bitcoins to buy!

This is very good news. I think with the explosion in market caps over the last few years, and with stories of new billionaires whobuilt their wealth on cryptocurrencies, the mainstream financial institutions are taking notice. Of course Wall Street wants its cut.

Oh    Mother of God!!!!!

I'm probably getting too old to keep up with "modern' times but still, what the hell is that?

Quote
Bakkt features artists to recognize individual expression, energy and potential
The creative expression of artists symbolizes the individual experience each of us brings. Highlighting art and diverse artists speaks to the intersection of design and culture.

Ok, maybe it is art but who thought of putting that art on this website who is supposed to be the new huge thing in crypto, and who designed it ?
Seriously, do they think that crypto lovers are mad about this stuff?

Oh, and another thing, the domain was registered just 28 days ago, seems like they rushed things, a lot!!!!!

This is indeed a good news for everyone. After an ETF declining and one still pending in the penalty, this a hope of light for whom who gets affected by news or hype. Thus, NYSE is recognizing BTC an important way of exchanging values like as asset or money, that is why they declared about a market based on BTC. The world is changing.

is it the fear of ETF?

Whoah! This is a big new's for the crypto currency industry, it will affect the market circulation and can give more demand on bitcoin it can also give interest on altcoin's to those who are in there.

Before, most of the Stock Exchange treat bitcoin as a bubble and now here they are accepting bitcoin in their market.

The most interesting part of the news is "Physically settled bitcoin futures" here! That essentially means that the company will have to buy large amounts of bitcoins to keep as an underlying asset of the future contract, that will effectively take out large quantity of the bitcoins out of the circulation pushing the price to the higher notch.

I searched through the parent company's website to know more about the news. My findings below,

1. The new company name will be Bakkt.
2. ICE is partnering with big names like Boston Consulting Group, Microsoft and Starbucks to draw expertise for risk management, technology and consumer experience.
3. The physically settled bitcoin future is expected to go live from November 2018.

I encourage everyone to read the news from the ICE website itself which offers more information on this matter. Link below,

http://ir.theice.com/press/press-releases/all-categories/2018/08-03-2018-133022149

Indeed a cheering day which already helped me to beat the Monday morning blues while going to office! :)

Yes, its a welcoming news indeed. So let's see how this can potentially impact the market prior to the decision regarding the Bitcoin ETF proposal. Although its been 3 days and nothing significant or dramatic rise on the price. Perhaps everyone is really waiting for the VanEck/SolidX proposal to really get approved (hopefully) to see a good pump on the price.

Physically-settled seems preferential over Re-tender or Cash Settlement.

However, it is estimated that less than 2% of futures contracts are actually ever required to be delivered on - so it's still a liquidity casino.

Just buy actual Bitcoin instead folks.

This news is indeed a game changer !!! People losing trust in btc ,for them this is the biggest fact to be believed as btc is here to stand in the future as well.Stock exchange listing btc would actually create more liquidity and also maintain the stability in the price and also will move in a lagal way, hence making other forms of btc also making them move in a legalised direction. The main motto is here to control the volatality and then drive in a way for long term so that it will be treated as an asset legally as well. Good news for all of us .Cheers !!

at least in this thread we can say that bitcoin or cryptocurrency is really helpful and good for the digital development of a certain country as this is the evidence that cryptocurrency is being adapted and accepted. Well we still could not confirm also as there were many FUDSTER's also around this forum.

It's no rat, no April fools but the execution is laughable, and I feel ashamed I was excited by this..
- crappy website
- poor communication
- rushed project
- contradictions between partners

I think they had a plan, and due to some complications or maybe triggered exactly by the SEC decisions they tried to push it out in the open to gain the first spot...or something like this..

But till now, everything about it is terrible, and the whole fiasco with "you can buy"/ "no you can't" at Starbucks is making me think this is more like a test run for something else.
At this point, probably only God knows what's really behind it since even the guys behind it have no clue.

"If the Bakkt blueprint works as planned, a panoply of new Bitcoin funds would tap the pent-up demand for the cryptocurrency, making it a safe and easy choice for everyday investors—notably millennials getting their first 401(k)s. Wall Street could then tap Bitcoin’s popularity as an alternative to stocks and bonds to generate giant trading volumes. And that flood of institutional buying and selling, in turn, would take the terror out of Bitcoin by smoothing its wild swings in price."

This sounds to me like an attempt to tame bitcoin. For better or worse, we are yet to see. It seems a bit concerning to me however because it looks like a grab for mainstream attention. Strange that we haven't seen any market reaction to it at all.

Lately market is so crashed and anarchic that no news has an effect.
I can`t imagine what worse situation market can get in, no drug can cure such bloody atmosphere.
So, don`t be surprised that just ideas have no effect on price.. While ready products do not have significant effect,.

It is strange that in the weeks following such a news the market has taken such a bad hit and tanked so much. Unless of course this is all a manipulation so that the big guys can buy coins cheaper.

So far this looks good as this will not try to dominate the current market policy. So BTC is expanding its wings and hope to succeed. The great news is that it guarantees liquidity and market volatility.

wow this is good news in the future, because besides making crypto will be better known by the wider community this will also make crypto more liquid where this will have an impact on big investors who start thinking crypto as an investment instrument or trading instrument, and I hope that in the future will affect the price of crypto in the future, which recently dropped dramatically

I have always wondered how well we can help incorporate bitcoin to the stock market. Maybe, such news and initiatives can help promote bitcoin to the rest of the world. The New York stock exchange usually called the wall street has always been a great force in the stock market. I guess such issues can help sustain bitcoin.
