Title: SCRYPT ASICS
Post by: MicroCC on February 23, 2014, 06:48:34 AM
Well now that there are already working ASIC Scrypt miners being sold. Scrypt alts hold no advantage over sha-256 coins. Devs were releasing Scrypt only Alts because there were no ASIC's, but now that there is should devs just create sha-256 clones if they plan on launching a coin. The security will probably be better, and at least hashes would spread out between coins like they are now with scrypt.

Not the case at all. Remember, the point is to try and keep the market as decentralized as possible, with scrypt ASICS the introduction will be much slower, and the further introduction of scrypt ASICS with huge hashing power is still quite a bit away. Because of this the distribution of the hardware will be far more even than it was with the original batch and ongoing batches of SHA ASICS.

My opinion anyways.

Actually I think they should use something different (scrypt n-adaptive, etc) and switch to proof-of-stake after a few days or weeks.

If we see those Alpha-t ASICS before August or September, I will be amazed.

In the meantime, the available Scrypt ASICS are the Gridseed Dual Miners. A number of people on the Computer Hardware trade board are selling them. Hashrate per $ seems reasonably close to GPU pricing, but the power usage is MUCH lower. They're not exactly a market buster just yet.

Rit.

So is they available for normal ordering or just preorders? No point to buy gpu's for scrypt anymore ?
