Title: [GATHERING INTEREST] 1TH/s 28nm 1000W ASIC miner $5250
Post by: Beastlymac on February 23, 2014, 08:25:25 AM
I am wondering what the interest would be on these units.

The pricing would be
1 = $5750
2-4 = $5500
5+ = $5250

These will come with everything necessary for running the units and also a English based firmware. These are accessible through a web page similar to the Bitmain S1 and the Avalon units.

I plan to have one of these shipped to me and arrive in about one and a half weeks time.

I will have a setup guide organised and all the information needed to run the units for when they arrive. These will ship via dhl express for all units if you want ups please leave feedback like that below.

This groupbuy is NOT open right now I am just trying to figure out if people would be interested in these devices.

It is also possible that we might offer a share based system and if people buy all the shares for a unit they can keep that unit. But what we do depends on YOUR feedback.

I'd be interested in the size of these things (I'm guessing 4U?). Looking into renting a rack and moving them into a datacenter.

Yes I think they are 4U

If you could confirm that? I'm looking to buy 7 or 15 depending on the size, how much I could fit in a rack (or two) ;)

Also I read that (atari02 here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421921.msg5312882#msg5312882)) said that the 1 TH runs at around 1,1th and pulls 870W. What do your sources tell you? Because 1000W vs 870W would just add another unit to a 48U rack and makes a huge difference in the options :)

I'd take 1 unit if I can find someone to host it for me. (Investigating that now but open to offers.) - UK import duty is a killer.

Interested ....will take two 2 units depending on shipping time as they are viable right now but that window is closing fast on competitive shipments.

Thank you

On first sight it looks cheaper to buy 5x Antminer S1 and overclock them to 190GH/s or 200GH/s

Yes they will need more PSU's and will use more power (and perhaps a little more effort to set them up since it's 5 devices not 1) but in the long run... I doubt the costs for power and PSU's will be higher than the price difference with these miners.

On the other had, S1 is available now and arrives at the door within a few days.

Must add, this is mostly because the BTC value has made some drops and Bitmain accepts BTC, so that's why it's probably cheaper to buy from them.

edit:
just did some calculations, right now it's quire equal to buy 6 (yes, 6, didn't calculate overclocking as it seems more fair) S1 miners and 6 PSU's vs. 1 of these and 2 PSU's.
So I guess it's basically the same but there is a difference of about 1000watt. So in the long run, these miners are cheaper than equal speed in S1's but they're not available yet.

I still stick to my point that they're too expensive seeing it's a new generation miner, you would expect it to be cheaper than older generation hardware and not "just a tiny bit".

;D that pic sums it up quite nicely. No mining is profitable at these bitcoin prices. Nothing will make 4-5 BTC so nothing would be worth to buy for over 2500$
Yet manufacturers seek prices +5000$ to cover their design and work costs.

Sadly they still have plenty of clients with +5000$ price. I'm one of them.

With this difficulty curve going up up up nothing is worth buying in March. In 7 days.

For mining game to start again Bitcoin needs +1000$ price, while now it looks like it could hit sub 500$ before that.

I applaud you Beastly for, at the very least, attempting to get something out at 1Th/s that's not a pre-order gamble.
I would take one.  But I would get more if your source can get the pricing closer to breakeven.
I'm in.

They are actually 6U.  I'm a bit disappointed in the power density, these take up a lot of space.

At $5250, I don't know.. At current btc price, you can get an Ant for $4.95/GH including the PSU.  This would be $5.75/GH at $5750 or $5.25/GH at $5,250.  Not really seeing the upside?  Anyone see something that I'm missing?

The upside would be simply the 900W of claimed power use, vs 2400W required for ANTS.

Problem is ANTS are 100% stable.  These Chinese clones "Like-Avalon-BUT-Different-Chips" are hit or miss.  I had bought a 200GH Avalon Clone BTMine box using the whole "2x650W" design and it blew itsself out in less than a couple weeks.  Just garbage...

I would be interested in 1 unit if we could do a group order and get the price down might take 2 but right now cost seems high compared to profitability/availibility if they were to ship soon ie within a few weeks that could help there value out a lot

Just want to add about the pricing:

asking $ in times of low BTC value (like now) is very bad for business.
on the other hand, asking $ in times of high BTC value it CAN be good business if you don't go outrageous with your $ price

I think that will be your biggest challange in setting something like this up when there is a strong competitor like Bitmain

I'm very interested if the price comes down a bit and is more competitive with Antminers.

These units are worth a bit more than Ants due to increased power efficiency and the fact that they come with power supplies.
