Title: [Discussion] What's best for the future of Bitcoin?
Post by: vy99 on August 08, 2018, 04:44:58 PM
What's the best thing for the future of Bitcoin the price going higher and higher (over ATH) or the price becoming stable?

Note my question doesn't say what's better for investors or what's better for you specifically. The question is what's better for Bitcoin overall. The price spikes are great but those are short-term gains and they only attract those that want to get rich quickly, on the other side if the price of Bitcoin were to become more stable then you'd see a lot more places accept Bitcoin as a currency and the overall growth and usage of Bitcoin would increase worldwide.

What are your thoughts?

I think the best thing is investing. The future of bitcoin is long in investment: when demand is increased for bitcoin, the future will increase. Then it becomes popular every day. And bitcoin should be a world-code for people around the world. It must be used for transactions. And this should be taken everyday. Then bitcoin is confirmed. Then the future of bitcoin is optimistic.

in my opinion it is better for bitcoin to have a high jump with a short time because this is where people like bitcoin and this is more attractive to investors. Indeed, bitcoin is a currency, where currencies must be more stable but I don't think bitcoin is, I think bitcoin is better to be a currency to invest

as a currency or a payment system the best thing for bitcoin (price-wise) is of course a relative stability. if bitcoin is to be a currency then its price also has to be stable like any other currency in the world. but the problem is that bitcoin is growing (being adopted) and as the adoption grows there will be more people buying it so its price will not become stable anytime soon until it reaches mass adoption and that takes a long time.

Bitcoin has the value from its buyers and holders only. So bitcoin cannot be a store of value unless bitcoin is used in trade and commerce.

For 700,000,000 people worldwide to use Bitcoin as invest or digital asset, the price has to be $600 to $1200

I think bitcoin price will not stable, But there is a chance to going higher and higher. But don't tempted with price spikes bitcoin, That can be your lose because it can soaring up or going down so fast.

The actual bitcoin price doesn't matter, when it comes to using it for daily purchases.Bitcoin can be divided into 1 million parts,so it doesn't matter if 1 bitcoin is 1200 USD or 20K USD.The real problems are  the price volatility and the confusion created by the national legislations. Most of the business owners still don't know is bitcoin illegal or not, will they be penalized,if they accept btc payments, what happens if they don't convert their btc,in order to pay taxes.

Bitcoin prices have to move up gradually not in a super fast way. Because anything goes up super fast, will also come down even faster so bitcoin has to build demand slowly and move up prices over a period of time.

Many people think that bitcoin investment is a way to become rich faster but that is not correct. Since it has a limited quantity and user base grows definitely its price will grow high but it may take quite a long time to happen. So if you trust bitcoins then just invest and wait.

You mean the price should be artificially pump to create a bubble? And then when FOMO sets in, the price could plummet any time just like the December 2017 peak? I disagree if this is what you are trying to bring in the discussions. I'm sure that we all know what's gonna happened next if such scenario occurs. For me I'd like to see bitcoin to be use for cross border payments, instead of what its becoming right now, Store of Value (SOV).

At first for sure the value of btc won't be stable because of the volatility it has there will be a lot of movements and changes that may happen. Secondly, this system has a goal that sooner or later it will be much succeeded in the near future and meets it's globally adaptation and legalization all over the world therefore it will surely will happen when it's value are increasing day by day so all of the people are really catch the attentions and have their interest to having involving here and soon invest into it so meaning to say it is much better that it will rising up or pump it's value continuously just for the better.

I think the below mentioned factors can make bitcoin a really great currency for the common mass,

1. Stability in price
2. Clearer legal framework
3. Being used as a currency and not as an investment

Legal framework is a challenge in many countries for the cryptos. The absence of clearer legal framework is actually demotivating the merchants to accept bitcoin or other cryptos as a payment option. Due to which we see very less options for us to use bitcoins in any store to support our daily expenses. Until and unless we can use bitcoin in local stores, the growth we all are dreaming about, is hard to happen!

If your question is purely hypothetical, then I suppose that's okay, but if you're asking what price we should be "aiming for", then cut it out.  Technically, the best thing for the future of Bitcoin is for people to stop trying to preempt what they think would be best and stop attempting to steer things in their preferred direction.  Just leave it alone and let it do its thing.  That's how markets are supposed to work.  If a market behaves how certain groups of people want it to, it's clearly not a very good market and there's some manipulation going on.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what people think would be best.  What matters is that it does whatever it does without undue interference.

Exactly,  if bitcoin is not volatile then it is not worth to invest, the best asset should have been making it's value unpredictable,  and does not know stability. It is good if it goes down or up so there should be a balance to evaluate your funds.

for better or worse this is what is happening to bitcoin and will not change for at least 5 more years and that is the price of it rising up and not reaching stability for years because that is how the growth of bitcoin is going to be like.

is it best for bitcoin? nobody can tell. but this is what we have got. a rising market which is going up as the market expands.

Indeed, in plain view, there are some fundamental things that we will turn to Bitcoin. If we look at the number of Bitcoin transaction volumes that are increasing every day, now Bitcoin is not yet maximized and currently it is still developing a variety of new applications and protocols for the future, but the potential that has not yet appeared is still very large

That's not quite what I meant, but okay...

My point was that, whether you prefer volatility or stability, it's best for Bitcoin if you don't attempt to force your preference upon everyone.  If it's obvious someone is pulling the strings, that leads to people losing confidence in a market faster than anything else.  Manipulation is bad, regardless of what someone is trying to accomplish with it.  Whatever figure it goes to and however changeable it might be, it needs to get there through natural price discovery.

I don't think there is anything that can improve the future for Bitcoin. I will always remain a decentralised currency with transactions stored on blockchain, doesn't matter what happens with price or anything else.

The best thing for bitcoin is it's adoption. That will happen when people won't be scared of investing in it. And that will happen when there will be a slow but steady growth in price. But I don't think it's achievable.

The best future bitcoin can have IMO is to have its value stabilized because with it, merchants and consumer would flock in the ecosystem and build a strong economy for bitcoin. You can always have insightful gains while retaining value for bitcoin without all those crazy volatile runs--perhaps a brief stint of appreciation would suffice--which will still be a win-win for merchants and consumers either way. A brief and steep rise would mean a great fall afterwards, which we are experiencing cyclically for years now. If we want to really have a strong economy before us, we should be wanting for mass adoption, not for profits alone.

you can't just come up with a number and say that's it . why not $5k? or why not $500k or $5 million?

stability is not something we can reach after reaching a certain price. stability is going to be reached when market reaches a maturity state where it is big enough that excited sell offs or buying frenzies can not shoot it up and down.
also that maturity state will be reached when the market has grown a lot so that there aren't waves of people coming in like last year when Coinbase was having 1 million new users per week! that part is the mass adoption.

How you are bitcoin will be stable in the market dude. All the decentralized cryptocurrencies are volatile in nature and there is no power to control the bitcoin and altcoins go bigger or dump in the market buddy.

So far there people likes to have bitcoin is stable like fiat cash but practically there is no possibilities at all on that.
Even the legalization side also we aren't working more like Japanese government done for their people.

I think that the cost of bitcoin speaks for itself. At the moment this is one of the most expensive investments. The best for bitcoin now, this is his legalization. It is necessary that people can freely use it throughout the world.

For it to become mainstream and ready for mass adoption, its price should be stable as possible. It can change and continue to rise but with nice and slow gains. I think this is better than sharp turns.

It depends on what type of mode BTC is used. If BTC is used as an asset then it would be better if the price keeps on going higher and higher.
If bitcoin is treated as a mode of payment then it would be best if it's price becomes stable so that it is used in a wide variety of places.
To combine both of these BTC should go to higher prices periodically and stay stable for a period time of time which is almost difficult to happen.
To satisfy both of these situations BTC has to split and doing so would destroy BTC. Keeping Satoshi's view in vision it is known that he created bitcoin for making a new mode of financial transactions. Hence BTC becoming stable would be best for itself.

Although I would like for bitcoin to be that the price goes higher and higher as well as a stable price, I think for me, if I have to choose only one, I will have to go with a stable price. Because I am not sure if more and more people will want to join the crypto world if the market continues to remain unstable. For now, at least, price stability is ideal more than the price going higher and higher.

bitcoin is a very high coin in the value. I think that by investing in bitcoin we can make a big profit. You can also do bitcoin business. You can exchange deals through this. By investing in this coin you can take advantage of the short and long lasting benefits. When people invest in this, bitcoin will focus on everyone. The value of bitcoin will increase. Then demand for bitcoin increases. Then the future situation of bitcoin is also optimistic.

Looking at the rate at which bitcoin has been on the radial from January to now, i believe the world is gradually getting to know about cryptocurrency and bitcoin as an alternative mode for transaction of goods and services. Bitcoin is still young and blockchain technology is also subjected to improvement and additional security and faster usage.

From my point of view it should continue increasing for now until some years in the future when it will be better when it become stable due to the lower frequency of coins being released through mining.

Attempting to make it stable in the current rate won't prove to be too useful like it will be in some years, thats what i think. It would attract more costumers/investors if it becomes more stable and worth using in everyday transactions and that along with the mining rate would make the stability last short time.

Last year, Bitcoin led a motley pack of so-called cryptocurrencies in one of the great booms in market history, soaring over 2,000 percent to its peak. Since then, it’s led an epic bust that rivals the dot-com era stock market collapse. But there are still plenty of true believers. And as the dust settles, investors and regulators find themselves still grappling with questions first raised when Bitcoin broke into public consciousness five years ago: What exactly is it? How do imitators like Ethereum, Ripple’s XRP and Bitcoin Cash work? Should I buy it? Where do cryptocurrencies fit into the future of money? Here’s a guide for those feeling at sea in these turbulent digital waters.

Aside from learning about the technology of bitcoin, we are all here to profit from it. I prefer bitcoin to be volatile for the excitement is there. If bitcoin will become a currency with a stable value then I guess this bitcoin forum will be boring. People got interested to bitcoin due to its volatile price. Try to look back when bitcoin's value is still under a dollar. If that value didn't skyrocket then I guess we aren't here in the first place since there's nothing that can hype us or make us feel interested about the technology.

I dont think there is any one thing which is vest for bitcoin. It can deal with
whatever people want from it and it is constantly morphing in response to
How people use it.

If it becomes more stable there could very well be more adoption which
could lead to volatility again.

If the price goes higher and higher there could be increased trading and
speculation leading to bigger swings in value.

Anyway just my opinions and its really hard to know whats best and
there is varying opinions and expectations.

We do not really have a choice, the market is going to grow by itself thanks to the demand of bitcoin and the demand of bitcoin is not stable it's volatile and it's going to be that way for a long time, so what we can do is to learn to deal with that volatility which is precisely why people prefer to hold their coins for the long term as a way to offset the volatility of the market.

You are asking what is best for bitcoin and yet you have though about the "price" at the first place.

It doesnt matter which price is it.
Usage will be the key for the better future of it.
As of now we can see there is not much.
Merchants are still in doubt because of its volatility. Yes a price stability might help but that will affect the investors afterwards. Some of them are here for that fluctuation. We might see a big dump if a stability happens.

Exactly, the rate of adoption is going to be critical when it comes to the well being of bitcoin and obviously that is going to have a good effect on the price of bitcoin, people only seem to care about the price not understanding that the price is only one measure of how well bitcoin is doing, for example even if the price is not very high right now the technology of bitcoin is still improving.

The best thing would be both :D

Honestly, I would rather choose the price become stable. Bitcoin price volatility is one of the main issue of mass adoption. Bitcoin's volatility is alien in other investment. You wouldn't see any stock going down by more than 10% in a day and then going back up the next day. That's crazy volatilty and it actually scares some investors out.

By stable I don't mean the price will be the same for a long period of time. Of course, there has to be some stable growth in the price as Bitcoin is a limited asset (fixed supply).

I highly doubt that's the case. If anything stability will increase adoption which means that more people will come on board. Volatility is only helpful when the price goes higher and higher but not when it's high one day and crashes the next.

Recently the crypto market has experienced a very deep decline including bitcoin, maybe this year's bitcoin will not rise high, in my opinion bitcoin will remain stable.

bitcoin will never be stable, today and the future, and this is the consideration of every country to adopt bitcoin, very fast and high volatility of bitcoin. so it's a little difficult to become a payment instrument.

the biggest thing that will happen to bitcoin in the future is the value of bitcoin will reach the maximum value, $ 300000, then bitcoin will be accepted by all countries as a legal transaction tool.

The price of bitcoin may rise one day. However, positive developments should definitely happen. It is not so easy to raise prices without seeing them.

there are many positive developments, both code development and regulatory environments. But you people can't see it only checking the prices and charts, forgetting what this is about
This is one of the flaws of only looking at the charts to try to tell the state of bitcoin, we know the price can be manipulated, so the price is not a very good indicator about what is happening with bitcoin, so we also need to look at the developments happening not only in terms of technology but also in terms of the laws and the policies that countries take towards bitcoin.

I personally think bitcoin should make a negotiation with the governments so that at least the users can use it easily and without any problem.

For bitcoin it will be very good if its price is stable. And for bitcoin, as crypto currency, it will be better if it does not have a higher cost. The higher the cost of bitcoin, the more risky it will be for investments. In addition, its high cost prevents the legalization of the crypto currency by the states.
It will also be better for bitcoin if it is used primarily as a means of payment, and not as a means of accumulating value. Using it more as a speculative means of making a profit leads its development into a dead end from which the path is only one - down to depreciation.
