Title: Bitcoin is worth more use of gold?
Post by: ZedBinh on August 22, 2018, 05:50:51 AM
Economist Paul Krugman says that the exploitation of Bitcoin uses a lot of electrical energy, but the largest codified currency is worth more than gold

At ChainXChange, a recent blockchain conference in Las Vegas, Krugman joined co-founder of Fundstrat Tom Lee and chief marketing strategist for Ripple Cory Johnson in a discussion about the future of money. bad

From the beginning, economist Paul Krugman acknowledged that he did not have a holistic view of the pre-coding industry, but rather focused on how to operate. of Bitcoin.

Krugman says:

Quote
Bitcoin is the only thing that I only understand partially

Bitcoin and gold

Krugman later said that despite his interest in exploiting Bitcoin, he used a lot of electrical energy, but the largest codified currency was worth more than gold .

Quote
Gold is dead ... Bitcoin is worth more than gold. It has more opportunities to increase value in the future

When compared to Bitcoin 's use of prepaid currencies, Krugman says the biggest problem is the transaction cost used to transfer BTCs from electronic wallets. He believes that if these costs were cut, it would probably wipe out his previous preconceptions about coding.

Krugman recently wrote a New York Times article titled Transaction Costs and Tethers: Why I'm a Crypto Skeptic: Why I'm a Nostalgic money coding). In that article, he argued that Bitcoin and all other coded currencies still need a lot of effort to prove their worth to the community in their daily lives.

Quote
Actually, eight years after the advent of Bitcoin, codenamed codenames have taken a real leap into the commercial market. Some companies will accept them as a form of payment, but in my opinion this is just more of a sign of real usefulness in life. Look at me, this is a great technology excellence. Predictive currencies have a huge market value but they are still considered as a speculative play, not because they are of value for convenience in terms of easy exchange.

The potential impact of smart contracts on life is very high. Along with other aspects of the blockchain that this type of technology is considered to be the new revolution, Krugman says he has absolutely no idea whatsoever about stereotypes of currency substitution.

Gold did not die, gold has a rich history as well as a financial instrument and asset. Why was gold so? Because people believed in him, just as faith in bitcoin is being born now.
But let's remember why countries at the end of the last century abandoned the gold standard. Does anyone remember?
The reasons were as follows: the complexity of moving large sums, the complexity of issuing emissions, the possibility of losing a resource.
And here bitcoin solves 1 and 3 problem. Excellence on the face. Now we need to wait patiently, when the whole world recognizes the importance of electronic currencies.

Gold at $1200/ounce. That way Bitcoin $1500 is not bad and more than gold.

True, gold still has a role to play in the finance world and probably always will. I wouldn't be expecting a gold standard to be restored anytime soon nor a widespread adoption in the case of a financial apocalypse, but I guarantee people will still be collecting and trading gold as a store of wealth. It's just not practical enough for daily transactions though.

Bitcoin is well on its way to solving these problems. We just need improvements in the transaction cost and speed (and efficiency in terms of electricity, a big problem until we do away with fossil fuels). Once that happens it will be more useful and appealing to investors.

According to many experts, the value of using BTC is more used than gold. The exchange rate of gold in recent times has been steadily falling, due to the impact of the dollar. But BTC is the opposite. Despite the fluctuations in the market Crypto always takes place, but the value of using the BTC is always maintained as a brand.
BTC can be used in many different transactions

if you are using 1 whole bitcoin against only 1 ounce of gold instead of 1 Ton or 1 ingot of gold then why stop at 1 whole bitcoin?  report the price of 100BTC and say that is higher :D

the reality is 1 ounce of gold (according to you) is worth $1200 and 1 satoshi of bitcoin is worth $0.00006
or better use 1 bit (100 satoshi) which is going to be $0.0066

I think in terms of the number of users/owners of Gold and bitcoin, that of bitcoin should be more. I take my analysis from the levels of people who use both.

For Gold, it is usually the wealthy's pride. Gold is mostly used by the rich who see it as a store of value and class. But, bitcoin is not a class commodity, every strata of human community, society and persons can have access to it.

The popularity of bitcoin is more because it also plays a dual role of store house for affluence and also for payment purposes.

For now? I think not. Gold has been in the society for almost many years right now, and many people already invested in it. But the way we see the future will be different and Bitcoin's value will soar someday.

bitcoin and gold should not even be compared to each other because they are two different things, comparing them is comparing apples and oranges. bitcoin is a decentralized and global currency while gold is just a metal that has a high value and despite being used as a currency once it is not a good one at it and it is  not global because of its physical form.

The value of the gold nd the bitcoin are only the same in terms of usage. The bitcoin are very important in this induatry because this is the main foundtion of all cryptocurrency all over the world. The gold are need to make an expensive things or sometimes it is used to buy things too. It only depends where it is used.

I think it is true Because bitcoin is so much more than just an investment asset, when gold is typically just a store of value and savings for somebody. And just investment for the future.

Another commonly overlooked point. Gold still has industrial value that will never go away. The computer that you type your responses to this forum on is loaded with gold connectors and parts. Jewellery will always play an important role in societies, especially eastern ones, as a sign of wealth. Gold still has utility and symbolic use that will always exist.

Bitcoin is of course more practical in terms of exchange, but only for those who have already accepted it. Those who are unaware of how bitcoin works are not very interested in it because they are slow to trust "invisible" money.

Bitcoin can not be compared with gold. These are completely disparate things. You can not say that bitcoin is faster than gold, it's stupid. Gold is not comparable to anything, gold is gold. It was and always is a great value. This is one of the most stable values. Bitcoin has appeared until recently and what will be its value in 10 to 20 years is unknown.

There's a facts and beliefs that bitcoin is much worthy than gold because it really has a capabilities that can give much more benefits and opportunities to people especially when it comes to financial aspects. However, there is also the facts that bitcoin are much risky than to gold because it has a biggest chances that it's value will be dump in so many times when the gold are still in it's same value and rising up more and more in upcoming few days. So maybe both of it has strongest and weakness capabilities.

If you are a computer literate person you should provably would understand a few thing or two about bitcoin mining and everything that involve in earning it, But for us it is pretty obvious that it is hard for us to mine gold, get what I am saying? I really think the mechanics in getting bitcoin is full automated but sure we can understand the needs in mining it, But for gold diggers this is a different story, And decause there are fewer miners now that in the past I really think it is not our forte to really mine gold and Mr. krugman will surely take mining bitcoin than gold more understandable for him.

As  my aspect, Gold is the best valuable metal except from diamonds. And, now, in the world,, there are still a huge of gold  which either had been mined or had never mined. Moreover, Gold is visual thing and Bitcoin is not. So, it is safer to use Gold than Bitcoin. Of course, Bitcoin is never worth more use of Gold.

As far as I concerned, Gold is a type of natural resources which owns much values. However,  Gold is finite. When people run out of Gold in the future, they must find the substitue themselves in order to trade and store their assets. And, it's Bitcoin. Nevertheness, I can not say that Bitcoin is worth more use of gold because each of us also has different functions. Therefore, it's up to using purpose, we should choose properly.

Entirely, I think Bitcoin is worth more use of Bitcoin. First of all, the value of Bitcoin is much more expensive than that of Gold. Secondly,  that bitcoin is in transactions will be faster than Gold. Thirdly, there are many ways to store and protect Bitcoin against the thieves. Finally, Gold is finite but Bitcoin is infinite.

There's a little bit of comparison but whether we admit or not we can't be biased because gold is far way better than bitcoin. Gold is still valuable that bitcoin since it can be used in different ways. We all know that bitcoin has limited use only. I'm still rooting for gold over bitcoin because for me they can't be compared.

Economist Paul Krugman, apparently not only does not understand bitcoin, he still does not understand anything in the economy, since he says that gold is dead. How can this be said about the established for millennia established system of values, which is gold. Gold has always been, is and will be an excellent measure of value and a repository of value.

Bitcoin had now multiple use in the internet or in the cryptoworld but ,if it will be compared to gold ,it is not forever, gold is an investments of a lifetime , because anytime you use it ,it will have the value of that era ,if you will keep it ,gold will last forever until such time you will sell it or dispose, this characteristics bitcoin can not have thsn gold.

Yes gold is very important as it work at a stabilization and reference value for many investing markets and furthermore the countries. It is for me very unlikely that it will disappear as a reference money and value.

But in day to day operation but also in accessibility for most of the people BTC is yes worth than gold.

It is easier to buy, universal price for everybody and everywhere, no storage trouble because even if you buy gold paper action it is really store somewhere, no subject to potential stop of mining as the mines could be empty...

Gold is the star of the money as btc is the star of crypto money !

The only thing that turns me off about Gold investment is the "centralized" ownership if you use trading tools like Gold ETFs to trade in Gold. I prefer to own the physical Gold, but it is very impractical to own physical Gold. You need extra security to safeguard it and Gold is very heavy, so you cannot move it from one country to the next in 5 minutes.

I can quickly shift millions of dollars worth of bitcoins in 5 minutes to any country in the world. Why would I need to invest in physical Gold, if I cannot quickly relocate to another country, without restrictions. <I live in a country, with a highly unstable government>

actually gold has a ton of different usages, i don't know why you say "gold usage is now less"! bitcoin is only a currency with some side smaller use cases. that is why bitcoin and gold has nothing in common and should not even be compared in first place.
besides gold having or not having usages has nothing to do with bitcoin being good.

Bith Bitcoin and Gold are useful, it is just about the trend. Previously, before coming the Crypto/Bitcoin, gold was becoming a trend of investment, despite other investment such as real estate, land etc. Those are profitable for future investment and has low risks. Now, bitcoin is coming as the new trend, it is not only about investment, it is such as money industry using blockchain technology and it offers a lot of advantages. Now people prefer to invest in Bitcoin because the potential is huge and higher than real investment such as Gold.

I don't think that there will be imbalance between the worth of gold and bitcoin, but what I do think is that bitcoin is more flexible and can be used in many ways unlike gold.

Actually what Krugman said is true, the biggest problem in bitcoin is the transaction fees.
If the fee of bitcoin can be reduced than currently, many peoples won't afraid to lose their money when using it as a daily currency.

However as a comparison everyones know the value of gold, so as they made a gold as a benchmark of one's wealth. Sure enough, they will find various ways to try and get a gold as a place of investment or jewelry that he uses to show someone that he has a wealth. The popularity of gold has been comprehensive, there is no one that didn't know about gold.

Bitcoin, the new technologi which can juxtaposed with gold, and even the user of bitcoin will as a digital gold. Someone can buy bitcoin with anything money they have, although they have $10. But I don't think everyone who know about bitcoin firstly they will self-acting to buy bitcoin. I just need convey to you, the user gold is more than with the user of gold now.

Gold is very valuable for those who understand in everyday life, many of them collect gold rather than for business.
Wherever gold is, many people look for it.
Bitcoin is also valuable for us crypto holders, and this is the bitcoin field that is able to strike the world with fantastic value.
Bitcoin is also a lot that collects for the future of life, and has fantastic value, even though the market price is unstable but many will dig it in their own ways.

I never understood the comparison between two things. On one hand we have gold which is being used over thousands of years to trade among the valuable stuff and also use it as ornaments, jewellery, studding the crowns and much more you name it. With the advances it is being used in the CPU's for better processing and now in the Quantum computing too. Thats the Gold, getting its value from the real world application and off course the demand of it being the rare metal.

Bitcoin on the other hand, is all new technology and without any physical form, works on different virtual reality with no real use in the real life ! Sounds like completely different lower hand which has gotten its value because of overhyped investment into it!! Now, I dont understand why we should compare them.

I think Gold and Bitcoin are two separate entities and stores of value. Bitcoin has technology that can be applied to many things as it is an open sourced accounting / decentralized ledger. Gold is rock that can be made into jewelry and warn by people, so their innate uses are so different. What they do have in common is that they are limited supply and can also be used as a store of value and as money and can be transferred to different parties as and when needed. They both differ, yet have some properties in common.

Krugman is talking out of his ass, like most of the people who does not regularly use Bitcoin as a payment option. Since the introduction of SegWit and also the Lightning Network, high fees has not been an issue. People like him most probably are still using legacy addresses and high fee setting to transfer bitcoins or to do payment.

Someone should demonstrate to these people how fast and cheap Bitcoin is, with SegWit to SegWit transfers and better yet, the Lightning Network.  ::)

Gold itself is an investment but i believe that bitcoin is of more worth. Investing in bitcoin can help you earning the double amount of money and number of profits. But this is not so in the case of gold. Gold cannot bring stability in the economy but bitcoin can do. So it can be concluded that bitcoin is better than the gold.

But I doubt what you said about bringing stability in the economy, I think nobody can do so, if you are talking about it as an investment, then Bitcoin itself being unstable, I doubt how it can stable an economy.

Predictive currencies have a huge market value but they are still considered as a speculative play, not because they are of value for convenience in terms of easy exchanges.

The potential impact of smart contracts on life is very high. Along with other aspects of the blockchain that this type of technology is considered to be the new revolution, Krugman says he has absolutely no idea whatsoever about stereotypes of currency substitution.

From the very ancient there is very common habit of human of saving money for their budding generations and therefore we human tends to inves somewhere and the most popular and the most common type of investment to which we all are familiar with is investment into gold but if we compare gold investment with today’s crypto one then no doubt bitcoin is the most beneficial than all the investment type available in the market as no investment has the potential to provide such a good profit in very short span of time.

The subject at hand is really debatable. I could agree and be bashed for it or i could disagree and be bashed for it too.

Because comparing bitcoin with gold is a comparison that will yield different answers depending on the person being asked. I think at this moment in time, a universal truth could not be established that easily. Gold has proven its worth since the beginning of man's history. It has always been a part of historical power, glamour and riches. Whereas bitcoin has just begun. But the belief that made gold valuable is somehow inherent with bitcoin as well. Thus, there is no undermining the possibility of bitcoin weigh more value than gold in the future. Yet, we are not at that stage to date.

Gold now acts only as a highly liquid asset and only. In the case of crypto currencies, everything is different. Firstly, this is also an asset, and secondly, a technology that will work in the future and will be useful. And in the future we will see how gold will no longer be such a valuable asset. In the future, gold will be digitized, otherwise it will not be competitive, because it is tangible and it difficult to store and transport.

Gold has been used since the days of Ancient Egypt, so its value has been uniform throughout the world, because there is a gold exchange in London which is a reference from other countries to equalize prices. While bitcoin, which is only 10 years old, is still looking for price adjustments that are the benchmark for bitcoin throughout the world, because bitcoin, which without government intervention will determine its own price based on the realization in the bitcoin market.

It is valuable because it has the characteristics Bitcoin has. What makes bitcoin more valuable than gold is that bitcoin is a digital asset that will continue to increase in price as the times evolve with global digitalization, in contrast to gold which has an erratic physical and number of mining results while we know the total amount so that bitcoin will become a rare item in the future.

The most obvious difference is that there is physical gold and bitcoin is not physical. But the value is more valuable now, because the price movement is faster than gold. So investors prefer biotcoin investment rather than gold, especially investors and speculators.

In my opinion gold still has a role to play in the finance world and probably always will.

Comparing gold with bitcoin is not true, because gold is owned as a beauty accessory while bitcoin is owned as an investment. Both of them do have investment value, if gold is slower but less risky. Bitcoin is faster but the risk is high. So bitcoin is more promising than gold, only a higher level of emotional control.

Yes, I think Bitcoin is more useful than gold, for example :
in transactions Bitcoin more simple than gold, Using Bitcoin all people can make a transactions only 1-5 minute.
Bitcoin simple, secure and fast than gold
to be a clear means of payment, the bitcoin currency is better than gold, you really want to know that the bitcoin currency is currency. , gold is more appropriate to be an asset not as a means of exchanging goods. So this is bitcoin and gold, the usage is clearly different. if bitcoin is a digital currency, gold is usually a valuable asset, or for guarantor of currency.

Yes, I think so. BTC can be a value store, it is easy to transfer internationally with so cheap cost, secure and can be a payment method for big amount of money.

However, the use of bitcoin as an investment is much more promising and profitable. Moreover, it is much more than an investment, as the main idea - the world currency. That's why I choose him.

Two things are valuable and very worth it, i think we dont need to compare the two because of the fact that these two are used in different ways, bitcoin is used in the virtual world while gold have been used in real world to be used to aesthetics, economics and etc.

It seems to me that these disputes will never disappear. I do not see any point in comparing gold and bitcoin, but simply study them and understand what is right for you. Society is becoming more and more digital, and it is quite possible that gold will soon lose its former value.

In many countries, there are ample power supplies and most of these countries always overloaded. The use of power for mining in this country limits the excess. Bitcoin is more valuable than gold, and I believe this is true. Bitcoin does not need to store, and it is easy to use and kept on the handset.

I think bitcoin is much more useful and functional in today's digital world. Therefore, it gained such popularity and became more expensive than gold. in addition, investments in bitcoin bring much more income and much faster.

There not everyone knows bitcoin, but if you ask what gold is, everyone will know gold. You can save all your gold in a place that you really care for or you can hide so that everyone doesn't know you have gold, but if you have bitcoin in various ways there will be someone who robbed you of your bitcoin without you knowing. Gold is more valuable than bitcoin.

After some years you will see that most of them knows about bitcoin same like gold or above it, Bitcoin is more safe it can be hide in very small and compact way. Who told you that If you hide gold then know one can know it. If no one can know it then when you die it then it will be waste. Same Bitcoin can also be stored and secure way that no one can rob it. What ever you are telling is because you dont know the real knowledge of Bitcoin.

I think gold is more suitable for jewelry and investment while bitcoin is created to facilitate transactions quickly, at an easy and safe cost. just need to wait to see the price of bitcoin getting higher in the future.

Well all I can is that Bitcoin is gaining much potential and popularity nowadays, and yes gold is having the same thing but Gold is already known many years ago but itwas not that accessible like Bitcoin, and this cryptocurrency were vere unsual and at the same time appropriate in this generation where we live with accordance to technology.

of course, because the value of gold is already high, what else is crypto money has to do with gold, and of course this will have a very high value, and it's better to use this as an investment. Because it definitely has a very high value when sell.

Don't compare bitcoin with gold since it has nothing to do at all while comparing, each has different uses and different values.I believe investing on gold is just wasting our money its just like our money is sleeping but with itcoin we can use it as we want but with hig risk than comparing with investing on gold.

Gold at $1200/ounce. That way Bitcoin $1500 is not bad and more than gold.

I think otherwise, that bitcoin can dig quickly and earn more than gold. The price is a bit more than gold as you said. And the percentage collected from BTC is much higher than gold, by high-end digital machines, in the future ;D.

I don't think bitcoin has a better use than gold, besides that they are totally different materials, gold still has a very wide use because of its high conductivity capacity, so it is used mostly in electronic components, but bitcoin is very different, its use is for electronic transactions of any kind, I don't even know how that is comparable.

I do not mind opposing views as long as they are rational and Krugman raises some good points and in fact are similar to some of the problems we have with crypto like the costs of transactions or the lack of usability but I do not agree with the idea that gold is dead, that may seem true to some now that the economies of the world are so powerful but just introduce some instability and gold will again show signs that is alive.

in my opinion, BTC has the same characteristics as gold, such as limited supply, not printed, cannot be duplicated, and lasts long.

but on the other side, BTC has better value than gold. BTC transactions are pseudonymous, BTC transactions are irreversible, and BTC is safer and simpler.

There are very few places in the world where gold can be accepted as payment. This is due to the fact that gold will need to check, provide protection and insurance. All these are additional costs that are not worth such costs and headaches. The smallest unit of gold is a gram, it is simply impossible to divide it into smaller parts, which makes it unprofitable to use and accept it as a means of payment.

electrical energy needs to get a bitcoin currency is indeed far greater than to obtain gold. however, the value of bitcoin is far more valuable than gold. gold has a fixed price and is not easily changed. while bitcoin can change at any time and the value of bitcoin can reach 10 times the value of gold.

That contradicts everything that we know about the economy, something is valuable because there is a limited supply of it and the demand for it is high, bitcoin and gold both fit that definition, also those that are very wealthy and did it legally reached that level of wealth because they were giving a useful service or product that people were willing to pay for it so they are not useless.
