Title: BITMEX VPN help
Post by: dylano on August 24, 2018, 12:20:08 AM
I was in the middle of trading today and my vpn randomly shut off. I am not sure how long it was off for but it had to have been less than 10 minutes. Should I be concerned about this considering I am trading in the states? I requested a withdrawal of my entire account as I dont want to lose the funds.

USA? If yes then you are violating their TOS (https://www.bitmex.com/app/terms):

1. Access Conditions:
1.4 By registering as a Member you represent and warrant:
  • i) that trading access to or holding positions BitMEX is prohibited for any person that is located in or a resident of the United States of America, Québec (Canada), Cuba, Crimea and Sevastopol, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, or any other jurisdiction where the services offered by BitMEX are restricted. If it is determined that any BitMEX trading participant has given false representations as to their location or place of residence, BitMEX reserves the right to close any of their accounts immediately and to liquidate any open positions.

If they caught you, there's a possibility (or most likely rather) that your account will be frozen or closed. Not sure if there's a way to get your money back if that happens because you're the one who is in fault here if ever.

most VPNs are using public nodes (only if you are using a cheap one) , have you used paid version or free version
You might be flagged by suspicious activity if you use VPN, normally it depends on what VPN you use. if it disconnects it may be bad vpn provider. if you request to withdraw all amount from your trading account this type of activity comes under suspicious. withdraw 50% then 50%. its always risky if you use VPn while trading.

BitMEX has banned IP from numerous countries, including the United States. You'll need VPN and pretend you're from a whitelisted country.

you can still have the plausible deniability. which means you may be living in another country, turn on a VPN that gives you a US IP address and then log in to your account. if they start banning everyone who shows a different IP then there will be a lot of users banned.
although, they may ask you for some sort of account verification again.
making a withdrawal was a good choice.
