Title: HD 5770 Problem - Won't start mining! Fine otherwise. Powercolour-512MD5-H
Post by: OceanWhispers on March 03, 2014, 04:04:08 AM
Hello, and thanks in advance for help and for your time reading.

I recently picked up a 5770 in a trade. I haven't decided whether I am going to keep it in my desktop PC (it's an upgrade from the 5570 that it came with, and will net me 170+ khash/s if I'm not mistaken) or sell it on here. Iam leaning towards keeping it. Either way, I test everything before I sell it and can't sell this as is on a clear conscience :/

I have installed the card in my mining rigs, and my desktop PC (where I am now posting from). I get the same issue on all machines.
The card runs fine, I have tested it in games fine with no issue. Benchmarks fine. But as soon as I try to mine with it, it fails and the display drivers crash (with CGminer).

In one mining rig I tried it along side a 7950 and a 7870, alongside each card, and by itself in different PCI-E slots. When I start CGminer the card displays "RPM 99%" which I have never seen before, while the other cards have a numeric value that actually makes sense. This is in the few seconds before the drivers crash. The hashrate sits at 0 while the other 2 cards revved up. Same thing happens in my desktop with CGminer. RPM 99%, CGminer crashes after 5-15 seconds. Same thing in another miner, by itself and with other GPUs.

I have also tried it with GUIminer. When I click start, it sits at "starting" for hours, no matter the settings. I have tried all manner of settings in both CGminer and GUIminer.

Any help?

Usually a display driver crash is due to misconfiguration of the clocks speeds and/or misconfiguration of the voltage and/or bad drivers.

So post your config file here and and driver version you're using.

I will when I get home soon. Thanks for your reply. I have tried so many ratios and what not though.

What can you recommend?

It's a powercolor AX5770 512MD5-H

I can't say for your card because I never owned a 5770, but you should go through this thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1461916/tutorial-ultimate-guide-to-tweaking-amd-cgminer-3-7-2-kalroth-edition-sgminer-instructions-included-aswell-get-the-most-hash-out-of-your-gpu

It's an excellent guide though you might need to apply a bit of changes where it's needed so it'll fit your own card settings.

One of my rigs has 6 x 5770 of various makes - none yours - running cgminer 3.7.2 with this configuration file. Average KHs is 173 per card, with 3-12% rejects.
