Title: btc app
Post by: ikenstein on March 27, 2011, 01:00:41 PM
This fledgling currency will  never really take off unless it can be used for real transactions. If it could be used to securely and anonymoulsy buy stuff it would be invaluable. So it need an app for mobile phones.

Therefore we need a way to connect from our mobiles to somone else's and send them some btc. Is there already an app for this?

*phew* Under that logic, it will take off then.

Therefore, it is currently invaluable.

Well, I don't know about running 'client' software on a phone, but you can easily sign up for a web-based bitcoin account at http://www.mybitcoin.com, which can be used on a phone.

Do NOT use mybitcoin service - http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4489.0

Plus - they were removed from wiki trade page as well.

Are there any alternative sites doing an SCI?

I've transferred coins from mybitoin with no problem whatsoever(not to and from biddindpond).

MyBitoin is safe to use with the exception of bidding pond because of a faulty button on bidding pond.

Correct me if I am wrong.

That's a bit self-referential -- they were removed with a comment referencing your complaint.

MyBitcoin is pretty prominent and continues to work for a lot of people, so I do not think they should yet be removed from the Trade page.

tcatm's bitcoin-js-remote (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2673.0) script gives you a "mybitcoin at home" functionality. Run the Bitcoin client and his code on your home machine, open up port 8338 incoming, and you can access your wallet remotely using your mobile browser. It even creates and reads QR-codes for easy phone to phone payments. You don't have to trust any third party service. Really this is such a great concept, I don't know why it isn't better known.

it is useful, but it isn't a mainstream solution.

They are safe as long as you have no problem related to their service. and if there will be problem (and it can be not just bidding pond) - you will be screwed.
