Title: Problem with Ledger Nano S Manager is I need 64 bit pc to download it.
Post by: xcaret on September 05, 2018, 10:01:02 PM
I realized that last week and bought a cheap Asus 64 bit laptop, and loaded it . I even had ir print me a public and a private key , very cool I thought .
That was until 2 mornings ago I woke up and the laptop wouldn't bring up the login page .

I asked a repair guy who said forget it , return it . So this morning I returned it to the store .

This ancient pc I'm using now does everything ( but isnt 64 bit) I ever wanted it for.

Now my problem is I dont want to upgrade my ancient blackberry .and cant load the Ledger app on it .

I dont want another phone ,and my $279 Asus laptop I just returned has such horrible reviews I dont want another one , but it did load the edger app.
The only reason I'm getting a laptop or pc , is just for bitcoin which needs a 64 bit operating system.

Any ideas , besides me upgrading my cel or something like tht ?

btw this pc ,under windows " about"  it says its 32bit X 64 bit processor. Some said I could partition it and use it as 64 bit.
Has anyone heard of that ?

Ledger Live isn't compatible with 32 bit, correct. However you can still use Ledger's chrome applications to use your Ledger Nano S.
You can find the extension here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-manager/beimhnaefocolcplfimocfiaiefpkgbf (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-manager/beimhnaefocolcplfimocfiaiefpkgbf)
And you can download the Bitcoin Wallet extension here:https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-wallet-bitcoin/kkdpmhnladdopljabkgpacgpliggeeaf (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-wallet-bitcoin/kkdpmhnladdopljabkgpacgpliggeeaf)
I hope it helps.

you can also download Electrum.

Create a new wallet and choose "Hardware wallet" option in Electrum.

Does not need to download any chrome app.

Just to clarify... does it say "32-bit operating system, x64-based processor"?

If so, then you have a 64bit capable CPU, but have 32bit windows installed. Your options are:

1. Backup your important date, wipe the computer and install a 64bit operating system (Windows or Linux)
or
2. Partition some spare space on the hard drive (you'll want at least 100 gigs) and then install a 64 bit operating system (Windows or Linux) on the new partition and dual boot the PC

Dual booting can be a bit messy... backing up your data, wiping and installing a 64bit OS from scratch is probably the best "long term" solution, if buying a new PC is not an option.

In case you are really running a 32bit OS on a 64bit CPU, i would suggest choosing option 1. from HCP.

There is no need to partition your drive and further use the 32 bit version.
With a 64 bit system you'll be able to use more than 4gb of ram and large data quantities can be processed faster.

If ledger is the only reason for you to buy a PC and your CPU does support 64 bit, this probably is the best solution.
And if you are going to store BTC only on your ledger, you might as well just download electrum and connect it to your ledger. You won't have to reinstall any OS and don't need a 64-bit architecture.

Bitmover has the best solution as ledger nano s is also compatible with Electrum (https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005161925-Set-up-and-use-Electrum) (Click the link to see the tutorial). Upgrading your Windows PC to its 64 bit version is a good long term solution but for the purposes of installing one program I don't think it is worth the time and effort for you to do so if you have a more easy alternative. Plus the problem here about installing a 64 bit version of Window in your "Ancient PC" is it still has hardware requirements you need to satisfy, one of it is you need to have at least 2 GB worth of RAM in your pc.
