So, I buy a Amazon Kindle Fire, because I like to read. When you configure it for the first time, you have to login with your

Amazon account (obviously) and then you are presented with 2 x FREE audio books. I accept the 2 x FREE books, to test the

audio and also to experience audio books for the first time. (I prefer reading the ebooks, but I thought I would give it a try, to

see what it sounds like.)

A month down the line, I get a sms notification from my Bank, notifying me of a payment done to "Audible" so I phone my

Bank. They inform me that it is a monthly subscription to Audible.com. (I never gave consent for "Audible" to sign me up for a

monthly subscription) This is how they do it --->  http://prntscr.com/ksqxhv  (I never even saw that, when I was offered the

2 FREE books) !!!!!!!!  Why would I sign a subscription if I just wanted to listen to the so-called FREE books?  ???

In any way, I logged in again and cancelled the subscription and it already billed me for next month.  >:( >:( >:(

Easier said than done. I've probably done this if only I could go to our local store and use bitcoin. But unfortunately global adoption isn't THAT widely spread as of today; so most of us pretty much have no choice but to use fiat paper money and credit/debit cards because there's no alternative.

As for your incident, there were probably hidden charges for it. Something like free only for 14 days or something; shady practice, I know. Quite unfortunate.

I assumed you already have Amazon account when you bought Kindle Fire, but do you already have Audible account prior to it? If not and they asked you to sign up to Audible to get the free audiobooks, did Audible not send you an email when you sign up for it and before they start charging you for the next month? From what I know, they give one free audiobook upon signing up but then they charge you automatically the next, although they will email you first. I agree, though about using bitcoin for cases like this. If we used bitcoin, we would not have experienced autocharging into our accounts that websites and banks regulate.

Your Amazon account store your credit card details and they are linked to Amazon, so I figure they get access to your credit

card details via Amazon. I will now have to contact the Bank to stop the payments or to chargeback the funds. If they

continue doing this, I will have to cancel my credit card and then ask them to issue a new card with new account details.

I cannot wait for Bitcoin to go mainstream, so that this autocharging bullshit can be stopped.  ::)


Yes, I had a Amazon account before I bought the Kindle Fire. I had to login to the Kindle Fire with the Amazon account to

use the Kindle and it was then, when they asked if I wanted 2 FREE audio books. There was no mention made about any

You not getting it.. they do not let you click the "terms of conditions" option, when you accept the 2 FREE ebooks and they

do not show you the "trail" offer subscription. This is a very shady practice and this should be stopped. Using a debit card is

even worst, because they can force a debit order payment and that is even harder to stop.  >:(  In any way, who reads the

ToS when you are presented with FREE books.  ::)

I agree it's a scummy thing to do, but it is neither illegal or a scam as you are claiming. The picture you posted clearly states that you will be charged after 30 days, as will the small print that you didn't bother to read.

If you don't bother to read what you are signing up to, you can't blame other people when you are taken advantage of.

I cannot post the actual screen that I received when I configured the Kindle Fire, because that was a month ago, but I

visited their actual site and I saw this "fine print" for the first time. You do not get that exact screen, when you accept the

2 FREE books, via the Kindle. In any way, I logged a complaint and they acknowledged that this was a mistake on their side,

and I got a refund today. The point is, nobody should have access to your money, without your consent and Bitcoin gives you

that peace of mind.  ;)

Can't see bitcoin panning out with brick-and-mortar stores sooner or later, given the amount of work it needs to keep bitcoin let alone the volatility of the everyday pricing scares the merchant (though there are third-party services which exist just to take care of that 'problem'). Perhaps in software subscription it will excel, but given the nature on how they try to market their products and knowing the limits of their control on bitcoin, these subscription-based services will never deviate from credit cards knowing that they're getting something from it. It's just wishful thinking at this point in time.

Yes you are right also using bitcoin will avoid auto debiting like what happen on every credit cards. Just like you are paying with no reason. a non-issue these days. The risk with credit cards is the storage of the information and also autocharging and that must come

to an end. People should have 100% control over their financial data and also over their money/wealth. Currently this power

Similar problem also occured with me in terms of netflix account. I was uaing a free one month subscription and forgot to cancel on it. Netflix charged me for 2 months without notifying me and it was really terrible but i was much helpless.

1. organise local meetups in your area with others who do know of bitcoin and like to talk about it.
2. finds out some key people who are good at
         doing a sales pitch/communicating.
         regular buyer of bitcoin or willing to give merchants fiat for the bitcoin the merchant gets
         if your area has good easy sign-up processes to an exchange or bitcoin merchant tools service. use that instead
3. if you get a good group who finds they all regularly spend at certain shops/car fuel stations. then use that as main target
4. the more people that simply do their shopping and just prompt the question "do you accept bitcoin" the more intrigue the shop will have to look into it.

That's strange. Why would they even take money from your account without your permission? You need to call your bank and stop this transaction. That's a shady practice done by these kind of websites.

It is not that easy. A lot of the local stores do not accept crypto as a means of payment. At the same time crypto is banned in a lot of countries. So switching to credit card will not be an easy task.

Switching to crypto from credit cards is not that easy because first of all, not all department stores or super shops accept payments in BTC or any other crypto. They mostly accept cash or credit cards. At the same time, there are still some countries where crypto has been legalized yet.

Bitcoin is relatively still very new and it is very far from being a conventional form of payment of any sort. Crypto has not yet even reached third world countries that well and its adaptation into normal world currencies has not even fully started yet. Traditional form of payment is still more preferable simply because of how easy it is to process and literally everyone in this world is used to simpler forms of transactions. Bitcoin still has a long ways to go.

Maybe when we can calculate crypto currency, there will not be any printed books. What do you think? And Amazon is not right, it's obvious

But switching over completely from fiat to digital currencies is not feasible at this time, as fiat is accepted everywhere, although there's the hiccup of changing your currencies when you move to another nation.

This is very true, it's an all to often trick used by many otherwise "respectable" companies. Another one often used is the so called recurring card payment-which by giving them your card details you are agreeing to take out a subscription (these can be very cleverly disguised) and are extremely difficult to cancel. So I totally agree using bitcoin would be great for us the consumer which is why they will never allow it.

The problem is in the real market is it is controlled by companies that dominate the market alone and you won’t be able to do anything against them. But in crypto market you will not face anything like that

Bitcoin is a great money for online purchase I think. It might solve the problem you are facing. But there is need for fiat and credit card as well for purchasing and making transaction in local market as BTC is not accepted everywhere.

It is not as easy as you think. Even if you want to use Bitcoin in everyday living, it is not possible right now because not all retail stores are accepting Bitcoin. You can only use it in online purchase or stores if they are accepting Bitcoin payment.

Lol, yeah. This is a good advantage bitcoin has. We have a strong security over our bitcoin wallet and no one can ever withdraw some of your bitcoin unless you do share your private key to anyone. Amazon are doing some dirty activity to link it to your credit card. However, this is a lesson learned.

Credit cards also classify as a cashless payment and It functions differently from bitcoin payment. Its cash limit is fixed and you can consume it without having any changes with the value. The only thing bad about bitcoin currency is that its either increases or decreases its value from time to time.

Bitcoin is a trustless system. No need for someone to be trusted to validate transactions. It’s as cash. So if you want to have charge backs and other goodies that credit card, offers you, then a credit card is fine. For me, have a card issued I need proof of identity, proof of residence and other paperwork. So I prefer to have a bitcoin wallet easy and use bitcoin for my buys.

To cite a personal example:
I'd be wary of using my Debit Card online anywhere as the layer between the debit card and money in my bank is just the transaction waiting to happen. I don't subscribe to Credit Cards. period. I know a lot many people also don't use credit cards. With Bitcoin, the wallet is not tied to my bank account and the money can very easily be loaded onto to my wallet to send across. I don't have to worry about a decline! or a network that is busy! no forms to fill out! No more threat of my data! I just shoot the money across to a Bitcoin Wallet, wait a few minutes and voila! Transaction done. For a minimal cost.

I am not sure of other countries, but in the U.K. it's called recurring card billing (unless you set up a direct debit) and these can be a nightmare to cancel as you have to get the merchants to cancel-which of course they are reluctant to do. You can dispute the payment with your bank of course but if they can prove you signed up ie ticked a box somewhere then you have a problem. 

Its value would still increase or decrease because we are still basing our pricing in fiat but when time will come that we would not need to convert to cryptocurrency anymore then the value would be stable because we will all be using bitcoin then if that time will come. As for OPs case, his credit card charge for a transaction the he is not aware of that's why he can say that if it would be bitcoin then it would not have happen. Unfortunately, we cannot just easily shift to bitcoin because many are still against it which would include banks.


Yes, that would be the case for now. We are still waiting for the big companies to accept bitcoin as form of payment. It would happen someday when they would figure out how to not have any loss due to the fluctuating prices of cryptocurrencies which may become their disadvantage when they accept it as payment.

Funny thing how the companies do something to earn. But then it is not really good that some random sites or comapny can have the acces to your card after signing up. Transactions must be done on hand or somewhat the transactions must agreed by both parties, and that is the author's point.

The same thing happened with me on another website. I was buying a game for a test because it was written there free for the first day! I was using my Payoneer account, after 7 days, I logged in my Payoneer to buy a product from aliexpress! But there weren't enough funds! I feel serious where is my money! After checking all transactions in Payoneer, I just wonder! That gaming website took the game fee for every day! Such a bad way it is. I want to use bitcoin instead of credits cards, but we can't do it on Amazon, eBay or other big e-commerce sites! It really hurts!

I just read a thread of someone who got charged for a game he originally thought was free. This can only happen because you initiated a transaction with your debit card and since the system still have your debit card details, it keep deducting the price of the product from your account. I am wondering if such a thing will happen on smart contract. well, I'm not trying to say Bitcoin is better but I feel that the technology behind it has been well designed to provide peace of mind.

At the moment, I could not only shop with Bitcoin, but I decided to end all my relationships with the banks. I'm gonna use cash for now. I dream of using crypto money only in the future and this is very nice.

Credit cards only make us stressed and dizzy, expensive fees, fines, sudden bills, administrative fees. it doesn't make us comfortable.

bitcoin was created to be a solution in every transaction. many people regret, complain, and even go bankrupt because of the primitive transaction model like credit card.

Bitcoin is accepted as a means of payment in certain regions and certain companies. While credit cards are accepted as payment instruments in all countries and all companies in the world. So using bitcoin will have difficulty when it will be used because not all countries accept it.

I have some ideas why we should use bitcoin rather than credit cards. First in mode of shopping. When you use credit cards you will buy anything you want without limits because we think that we can pay cedit cards or banks in installmemt mode but when you use bitcoin in shopping you will be a wise buyer or consumer. As a bitcoin holder you know how hard to earn or to have even a small amount of bitcoin so when you remember it you will be think that yoj make every cents or coins count because you know the feeling on saving and earning money or bitcoin and you will buy only the important things that you need.

I think bitcoin is an element of the future payment system that gives people a lot of advantages and it does not depend on goverment

I totally agree with you that Bitcoin is better than using credit cards because I did experience the same things as well and I just wasted my few dollars paying for bills that is basically stated free for 1 month and once i cancel the monthly subscription, they already charge me for the next month which is super annoying and troublesome until I had to called them to cancel the monthly subscription.

Payment by bitcoin is more useful and convenient than credit cards. that's the reason why people want to use bitcoin than credit.

Its not just Audible. Itunes, spotify, skillshare and etc. doing the same. They give you free trial (1 or 3 month) and after that they automatically charge from your bank. (which you have to fill in bank info before use free trial) This is annoying me so much and many times i have to cancel the subscription. Fot btc is easy because you control the payment. 

I have some kind of similar experience too on those so-called "free stuff" on the internet and this kind of scam should stop and I really agree with the help of Bitcoin and its blockchain system this kind of sh*ts will eventually put into an end. Their strategy is to tell you that you try this or try that and its free no need to pay for anything and eventually you'll see your bills that you are actually paying for that free stuff and it's pretty frustrating that these companies do that to be able to get some money from customers. :(

This kind of shady practices of those greedy companies must stop and Bitcoin is the solution to this kind of problem but it is still a long way for this revolution to happen and occur at the current situation on Crypto Currencies.

What you have mentioned has happened for me like many and this is a one major reason why bitcoin payments methods can be consider as very beneficial than fiat related payments specially which are done using credit cards through banks because there is always a extra payment hidden to cover there service and for them to gain more money through our purchases but in bitcoin there is no such things and that is why it is a best payment method

I like the idea of having a bitcoin use for spending rather than credit card beacuse credit card do have interest on every credit you purchase. Unlike bitcoin you profit is clearly yours with paying any tax and interest. Though the very problem is that bitcoin is not yet recognized by many industries.

Of course even bitcoin is a best payment method due to the lack of understanding and trust still most businesses in the world don't use bitcoin as a payment method but we can hope that in the future it will widely expand than today by adapting in to more businesses and financial systems so majority of services and products which are purchased using fiat can be purchased bitcoin

Bitcoin is good but credit cards are also good in these days many companies are agree to sell through credit cards while in future may be their preference changes because now crypto is growing every where and we can make money in crypto if we have some skills in the crypto and now if we connected with it we can make progress in future.

Sometimes unscrupulous merchants will let your credit card register to enjoy some services for free!
But after the free trial ends, they will debit your credit card!
Although BTC can solve these free traps, there are still very few merchants accepting BTC payments!

I don't think that bitcoin is comparable with credit cards, they all have their own benefits but are completely different from each other.

Agree to that, when you have already linked a credit card in some big sites like amazon, people can manipulate you because they will have now an acess in your credit card impormation,  this is a lesson for us not to just give or even use credit cards for shopping online, btc is still the best to use.

Perhaps in future there will be a dapp that will allow direct debit type transactions for subscription based services. At least they will all be traceable on the blockchain

I Think it would be more advantage to use bitcoin rather than credit card, we all know that credit card has many hidden charges, interest and so on, we just all delighted for all its freebies sometimes but the truth is we also pay those things...unlike in bitcoin it has no hidden charges plus its only you can use it no one else did.

Extortion is what it is called, and online marketing agency hide auto rebuy option when they advertise the goods online and if you do not know your money will continue to be siphoned from your bank through your card. But with Bitcoin nobody will try such stealing from your wallet. If we use bitcoin to buy online we will not have a third party charge to pay but only use P2P.

all will happen if the whole world is willing to accept the existence of bitcoin and also accept payments using bitcoin, because until now only a few countries that have received bitcoin payments become legitimate may be difficult because many countries have too strict regulation.

This what I like Crypto, It gives us the full control over out funds, this is why third party shouLD not be a choice now. Knowing that we could publicly see the code, we can have assurance that are funds are all safe and no one is making out of it. Instead of storing of fund from somwhere better choose an open source wallet like Hodler wallet, this kind of storage will not let any amount to go from somewhere unless you make an action.

Credit cards cost a lot such as monthly fees, transaction fees and interest from expenses borne by credit card holders. Unlike bitcoin which is very cheap in transactions, P2P and confidentiality are better maintained because everyone expects privacy to avoid crime.
