Title: A special Archive for truly memorable/historical threads
Post by: hilariousetc on September 15, 2018, 10:14:28 AM
Can I suggest that the mods locked Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155054.700/)

Noticed that the last couple of post was just pure spammed (newbies->jr member) and I even saw merit being given away. Out of respect to the Legend himself, locked it but the thread should be sticked though so that newbies will have a idea who Hal is and contributions he did for Bitcoin.

Going from this quote above from a thread requesting the Hal thread be locked and stickied I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of special archive for old threads that have become memorable/iconic but don't really need to be posted in any more and allowing people to do so just usually takes them off topic or at the very least fills them up with spam. Threads like Laszlo's pizza thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.0) and GameKyuubi's  I AM HODLING (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0) would be worthy examples of threads to go there. Those threads get locked eventually but there are plenty of other old school threads that just get bumped from time to time and are then inevitably filled with crap from sig spammers. The community could vote on which ones are worthy or not. I know we already have an Archive, but that's just used essentially as a visible trashcan and I think certain threads deserve to be in some sort of 'Hall of Fame'.

Or... Instead of moving the thread to any other board, theymos can just add the option of adding an archive option for each thread if it's possible; and then those threads could just stay in the board if they are archived , posts won't be made there then. I have seen something like that on reddit and it might be pretty useful IMO.

It would be great if this thread would be stickied. The whole intent of it's creation is to draw attention to the brilliant historic threads on this forum.

I agree some of the historic threads should probably get locked. To avoid Fan-dalism.
