Title: THEME FOR THEYMOS
Post by: Onelf on September 19, 2018, 11:14:17 PM
Disclaimer.

Only the Themos can remove this topic!

If another person does it, I'll find a way to contact theymos and let him know. After removal, I will post this article on my resources so that the article is available to the community. Alternative forums(https://golos.io/ru--bitkoijn/@borishaifa2/luchshie-forumy-po-kriptovalyute) and social media are already quite a lot and the reputation of the forum will be known to all, from newbie to managers of companies starting their business related to the blockchain. I hope that there will be a constructive discussion of the problem and that we will not all have to take extreme measures.

Intro.

I’m “newbie”. I'm writing this topic in a place reserved for newbies. Now it will be my main account. I started a trial account while studying the bounty system and working on the forum. Also, it’ll be an obvious example. You will see that a newbie can’t do anything so far he until he writes a necessary number of messages. So, let's begin…

Story.

I’ll not lie if I say that the BTT has become a historical place and the birthplace of the cryptocurrency movement. Virtually the first place where enthusiasts, experts, and fans could discuss the emergence of a new technology. They could to discuss and form ways to use it. They gave arise a new movement for earning money and realizing new ideas. This can't be taken that away from this forum and it will forever fit into history. Over time, being morally obsolete, phbb from the influx of people no longer able coping with their functions. And it was introduced the merit system. The quantity of merit at the user had to separate newbies and "useless" users from the guru and geeks of community. This rank system didn’t last long. Why? About this below. I’ll only say that to me as a person who came from the "normal" Internet, this system seemed wild and non-viable. The times when only the initiates understood what's what, passed. This separation became inappropriate in 2017. Now we are in the latter part of 2018.

In September 2018, the forum management decided to lower the rank of users without merit to the level of newbies. No awards- you're a newbie. In their opinion, this should stop the influx of generated accounts that do not benefit the forum and are used only for signature. One experienced user could manage from 40 to 100 accounts at a time. And to give each account a merit you need to try very hard. At the same time, it will sharply reduce the number of low-quality accounts. But in the long term, it's just new rules of the game.

The system of merit doesn't work. My example.

By design, rewarding the user with merit occurs when it will be useful for the forum and all cryptocommunity as a whole. A good comment or an interesting topic - and other users will gratuitously appreciate the efforts of such a user. It doesn't work! Where money keeps rolling, there is no place for philanthropy. Merits don't give simply just like that. Merits are selling.

Yes, you must write a good comment or create a useful post. But tentatively you must agree with the seller of merits, that he "appreciates" your efforts. Otherwise, your topic will drown in the world of spam BTT. You’ll say that's not so? Well, let's play this game.

Here's an example of my topic, that I created specifically for this experiment.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5027519.msg45 .. - English forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5025367.msg45 .. - Russian forum

If after this article they aren't removed, you will see them. The topic in the Russian thread was listlessly supported. Apparently, it’s difficult for the philistine, who came to do the signature, but he's not using his head for thinking. The topic in the English version simply drowned without the attention of society.

Newbie-legend. Limited opportunities for a newbie. Resale of legends.

Being a newbie you can’t do anything! And it's not about a signature. You sit in the sandbox and type messages to have a chance to be heard. For me, it was a shock at first. My topic-question about Telegram was removed as unclaimed. A message on the topic, where I wrote past the branch of the newbies was erased with showing me my place. Yes, there's Cooper-member. For the money. Bought and write wherever you want. Why I need it? I don’t promote my company, and to help less experienced users, I don't need it. A concept the legend and younger ranks are erased long ago. Accounts are resold. The history is silent about how they were accessed. Someone is tired of communicating here. Someone has the excess account. Someone was hacked. It essentially doesn’t change. At the helm of a high rank can sit the schoolchild, who didn’t even know how to write correctly. And not to mention, to understand something. You look at the message history of such a legend and see that in 2016 he wrote interesting things, and in 2018 - frank nonsense. And judge for yourself, that now high ranks know, that isn't known by the others? All information is available everywhere for a long time. The internal workings of the resales? No, thank you! I don’t wish to participate in that and I'm not interested in investing in accounts when I can invest in something else. Starting with shares, ending with the cryptocurrency.

Signature.

10-15 messages per week. Most companies and managers have such requirements to the forum participants. What does this mean for the user? You insert a special code under your account and thereby advertise the company, regularly write on the forum.
Advertising.
A good decision in a world where authorities have an advantage. With your rank, you show that you understand the subject. And your signature shows what it’s worth paying attention to.
It doesn't work anymore!
We can open the list of the most successful participants of projects and see that it isn't obligatory to be a legend to choose the right projects. In the top 3 no one legend!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Da6KjXk26e0iK7JJo7E0cWKWQHScp6DpQQmQy9YfvX0/edit#gid=0

Merit. Merits Trade

The system of merits was stillborn. And the creators who came up with this method of encouragement were short-sighted. It impression that they have not seen the rest of the Internet ever and have been forced to come up with something own.
Look at the forum participants and you will see solid round numbers 10, 100, 500. what is the probability that a person has earned exactly such a number their merits? Participants with a non-round number of merits are significantly less. Why is this happening? Why pay more than you need to a new rank? This is the market and the ranks here are a tool for making money. You bought an expensive tool or developed your own, you earn more.
Reminds the MMORPG with donating. You can sit wasting an insane amount of time for pumping the character and conglomerating with contacts and assistants. Or you can buy ready-made equipment to bend the enemy without making great efforts. Do you think this is a game?

Signature from the point of view of companies

OK. I decided to start my company. I have an idea associated with blockchain and payment in cryptocurrency or tokens. Or I decided to modify the existing business under new realities.
I understand the trends or I have a consultant. I will choose the forum-center of the cryptocommunity and invite the participants with a high rank to wear the signature, advertising my project.
Who will wear it? An old-timer of the forum? A schoolboy who bought an account? Or still maybe a person with a good reputation and authority? A man whose opinion people will listen. A man who did and said many important things. What do you think?
And now look around. Climb out of your hole and look at the world. The world is full of advertising. And if there is a significant weight of social networks and media, the narrowly focused forum fades in their background. More and more platforms for bounty are emerging. And companies start working with them directly. Communicating with platform managers and signing contracts with them.
A little time will pass and the signatures pool will decrease in favor of other ways of advertising. The forum will cease to be a place for specialists in the minds of people. It was the place where these specialists left and went their own projects.
And no project will bet on the forum. There will be small rewards, so to speak, to reach for the audience. And users will look for a new place where are located authoritative people.

Karma (examples of other sites, habr, reddit)

Now, what I can do? "This is inevitable and while it works, you need to gain the loot" many will say. No, guys. Everything has already been invented and everything works as it should with those or other nuances.
Take the model Reddit or habr.com.
the first-largest world service. https://www.reddit.com/
second-Russian resource. On its platform, blogs are world brands. Starting with Microsoft and ending with IBM. habr.com/info/help/karma/ (https://habr.com/company/ibm/ https://habr.com/company/microsoft/)

The system of karma allows you to encourage users to write the right and useful things and reduce the merits of those who are useless and even harmful. A sudden jump in the growth or fall of karma can be tracked by the administrators and settled.
If a user performing a signature writes a neutral comment, no one will touch him. The community regulates the authority of individuals. And this adjusts in both directions!
Set up a forum if possible. By the way, if I remember correctly, phbb initially works like this. Make it visually. Leave the rank system. But if a person writes nonsense and suddenly gets pluses, subtract them.
Or change the core to something more convenient. Here is important just the domain and the site theme. Save the database of accounts and transfer it on the something modern. Bankroll for the forum to develop even from scratch is enough.
Otherwise, it will fade. He will die as all morally obsolete.

ps. I saw how on September 17, 2018, the price of merits in closed groups soared. I see waves of excitement on the forum and beyond. Your system sucks and it should be changed.

I'm still a newbie to this forum because I just can't even read the posts that are written in, as you put it, the sandbox. People just typing messages. mindlessly, meaningless. In my view, the forum is communication, that brings pleasure or benefit. There is no communication. And I'm a too pedantic person to write any mindless nonsense. I need meaning. And two posts per day limited so much.  When I see posts like: "a good article, I'll keep that in mind...."  it seems that it is written by the Children of Sun, who are all happy and who don't have their own opinions. But no, it is written by people, who want to improve rank and don't want to think about the messages.  I can't stop thinking. I don't buy Merit fundamentally. Cooper-member is also not going to buy. Vicious circle.

And this innovation is like an easy way to earn extra money. All became newbies, and a signature is necessary to continue to conduct, consequently, people are forced to buy merit or Cooper-member. Perhaps it's not so, but from the outside, it looks like so.

I knew this thread was going to be a load of bollocks from a bounty spammer, because of the all caps title. I read a few bits of the massive text blocks, but it didn't seem worth the effort in reading all of it. Maybe the OP should post an intro with a link to a hosted article somewhere.

Oh, I'm sorry that you had to spend your precious time on this. if I had known, I wouldn't have done it as well as I can. I recommend that you pay attention to Twitter. Their messages aren't so big as on the forum and you will be easier to cope with the text.

Also, I would recommend that you as a legend, discuss politics in a topic intended for this. This would be a good example for such bounty spammer as me
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033437.msg45932739#msg45932739

ps If you have something to say. talk on the topic. I specifically divided the text into the subtopics, for more convenient to discuss

frankly, it's disgusting to see how the dying forum is now beating convulsively. Old flooders called legends are sitting and pretending that everything is going according to plan and without any hesitation (and maybe even on purpose) exchange merits for stupid comments. And the newly-baked newbies run in panic. Someone licking asses to old flooders for merit. Someone is trying to write good topics, still believing that there is justice in life and someone will appreciate his works. And then someone climbed off a dead horse and gave up on her.

260 views. Two vague legends answers are off topic. This topic causes fear? Or users have nothing to say?
Yes, I know people who are afraid to write a comment, they are performing a bounty. But where are the old users whose appreciate this forum and they do not like the appearance of a large amount of flood? Why do you turn a blind eye to the problem?
You like this place. Let's come to some decision. Maybe my option with karma is not the most successful and you have the best deals.
Today lowered the lower ranks to beginners. Tomorrow they will lower those who have not received merits, except those given for the age of the account. You don't care?

Disclaimer.

This topic can remove only theymos!
You see theymos has a lot of things to do so definitely this will be overlook just like others do with your thread. There are many views on this posts but only few had given their reply. If you know that the length of the thread does not matter here and it should be the content. You can do this thread on 3-5 sentences directly to the point about your complains and issues with the forum and with theymos.

I don't know about anyone else, but these obvious merit begging threads are causing me to put people on ignore--not only the OPs of them, but a lot of the new members who post in them, usually saying how great these new changes are.

We get shitposters writing (badly) how bad shitposters are.  We get newly-inducted newbie hell members writing how great the changes are, even though they're negatively affected by the changes.  It's like Meta has become a bizarro world, and I'm tired of all of these people.  Higher-ranked members with sMerits to give away can see right through all of this crap.  I'm not sure why people like OP here think we're stupid.

Users already do that on another thread, time to DYOR.

Edit : looks like OP intentionally ignore my post, even though he respond to all posts above and below me. Not surprising though.

I'm glad I made you laugh. The fact is that this forum removes everything indiscriminately, simply because
Explain to me why you think is a stupid fake. I really interested in this topic. I talked about my point of view and the waited for answers and recommendations from the users. In the Russian location, such were.
You may self-decide to research a little bit on where and when and from who those juniors got their merit. Only it will be a waste of time.
I'm sorry that you all lose your precious time,  exploring the forum topics. And I'm sorry that you find it difficult to read the texts. You are not the first with such a problem. Maybe you should also turn to a specialist too.

I'm happy to explain. you and others who do not understand my attitude to the old users.
I'm not interested in getting awards. The minimum I can always get. But I am depressed by the status of the forum and the blindness of users. Do you really believe that such measures work? I described in great detail the essence of the problem. Some people even had difficulty reading this. I can write briefly, but I tried to convey everything in the smallest detail.
At the bottom of the article is a short version. If  I will politely: this system does not work and will not work. Never.
We either set up karma or remove the signatures. The end. Sweeping will not work. People will find other options for circumvention. Why do you think newbies are stupider than yourself? This is a big mistake. People are all different. And some of the newcomers are much smarter than some old-timers. And according to stupid rules, no one will play.

I'm confused about what point you're trying to make here. Are those your threads? Are you complaining that neither of them were merited? The English one is barely coherent and looks like it's just been auto-translated or even plagiarised from somewhere.

ps If you have something to say. talk on the topic. I specifically divided the text into the subtopics, for more convenient to discuss

It doesn't matter how much you divide something up when your English is so poor that nobody can tell what point you're trying to make exactly. I'm sure you could have got your point across in a sentence or two instead of needlessly waffling on.

Tell me how close I am with my translation: "I'm a bounty farmer and I now can't claim bounties because of the god damn merit system", or have I missed the point completely?

Being a newbie you can’t do anything!

A newbie can post in the exact same way a Legendary account can. The only difference is the time limit between posts, but there's nothing stopping a Newbie making an exemplary post. The problem is they rarely do or at least are drowned out by the thousands of Newbie/Junior shitposters who come here every day just to make some spam to get paid and that's what we need to try curb.

And it's not about a signature.

No, it almost certainly is. What else has changed since September 17 other than you now need one merit to get a signature? Nothing. And that's why you're mad. You now have to make the strenuous task of getting one solitary merit over god knows how many accounts you have and that's why you're annoyed.

Your system sucks and it should be changed.

It sucks for the bounty abusers like you. What other system do you propose to stop all the abuse? I'd love a better system to be proposed as the one merit one doesn't got far enough.

I take it this is op's alt account too? Funny how Julia instantly turns up in here to back you up and you both talk barely coherent nonsense and say "cooper-member" in the exact same way:

Yes, there's Cooper-member.

Cooper-member.

Julia also turns up in that thread you linked to in the op.

I'm guessing you have a shit load of accounts and the merit system has fucked you over from being able to get paid to post, right?

Is this another of your alts:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2043707 absenter87

It received four merits. Send two of them to the Uesly_Future account, then he merits him one back. I'm sure this is just the tip of the shitberg here.

260 views. Two vague legends answers are off topic. This topic causes fear? Or users have nothing to say?
Well, your topic is kinda vague too. I'm still puzzled how your topic is going to remove theymos:
This topic can remove only theymos!

ps. I saw how on September 17, 2018, the price of merits in closed groups soared. I see waves of excitement on the forum and beyond. Your system sucks and it should be changed.
This was all anticipated by theymos:
Merit sales, transfers to aliases, back-and-forth trading, etc. are not much of an issue. All illegitimate merit will decay, and will account for a tiny and very expensive fraction of the total merit economy. It's basically a rounding error; fight it where convenient, but waste no sleep over it.
Merit trading would be a much bigger problem if the price would be low. At $14 a piece, that's a week's worth of food money in some countries, and it's lost when the account gets banned.

This topic can remove only theymos! - this is my bad English. I have corrected this. Thank you and sorry for I misleading you

The first adequate legend in the topic. I already lost hope. I decided that such in the meta do not go.
I wanted to create this topic earlier. But the last update was the last straw and I could not keep silent any longer.
I was only trying to convey to people that this is a dead-end branch of the development of the forum and these measures-crutches. This does not stop the flood. But apparently, nobody cares about it.
