Title: Demerit system should be harder
Post by: Screamshot on September 21, 2018, 02:04:16 PM
Merit system I must say I a great idea in promoting the standard of the group but in my own opinion demerit system should also be up held strongly
The changes has seen this forum getting less spam but it is not just enough most just get merit and go back to there old way I feel that after someone is merited that person should be on probation or so by another different person without sentiment and observe the persons post for a while on till the probation period is over
The credibility of the forum is second to none

That MIGHT work, but it really is simply not feasible. There are so much newbies and Jr members for them to be individually watched by the bitcointalk staff. This is going to require so much manpower, and I'm pretty sure most of the staff here on bitcointalk are moderating the forum voluntarily and with no pay(not sure about this part, don't quote me on it). It simply is not worth the time in my opinion.

Probation might work on demerit system but as mjglqw said it will require that much manpower and you may find a good overview on LoyceV's deMerit source application (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033455.0) I like the idea however I guess it will take time and studies in regards to it before it will be fully implemented.

Suggestions that are not bad, but need the right calculation. Comparison of members supervised by supervisors must be logical, and it seems like the comparison is very far.

Not bad, but we will probably get better results if those merits were not awarded unjustifiably in the first place, that is, they were not from merit farms, a better use of man power. I have seen times without number sales of merits across telegram groups

The feature is already there in the form trust rating, adding the demerit to the forum, in my own opinion is not really needed, what you should suggest is utilizing the trust rating system on any one found spamming the forum.

I'm not sure about a probationary system, but I don't think one merit is enough to be able to earn from posting here. It's fine for moving up from Newbie to Junior Member, but I think we should require ten merit and to become a Member before you can get a signature and start earning from posting. Getting one merit is far too easy and you can pretty much beg, borrow, buy, trade or even steal a merit (copy a great post, hope someone merits it, then remove post). Job done. When one is all you need people will just try their damnedest to get it in whatever which way they can then revert back to their previous ways of shitposting. Trying to beg or buy ten merit is significantly harder, especially for a shitposter, but not really for a great poster. A great poster could get that with a great post or two. A bot or the worst of the worst of posters has no chance and would be quite expensive to purchase and ten times more difficult to abuse. We also still need to punish ICO campaigns who will continue to pay Junior Members for spam, because one merit certainly isn't going to stop them from spamming once they've achieved it and campaigns are still going to keep on paying spammers the as long as we tolerate it.
