Just keep your coins in your wallet, add it to your browser's bookmarks, and go to the purse only if necessary, and there will not be problems.

Also, protect your passwords too. As for private keys, you may save these keys into two usb and store them on two different secured locations.  Remember to make the file encrypted with strong password.  If anyone found the usd, the encryption will save your data from being open and stolen.

Absolutely, for the security of your wallet and the coins you need to keep your private key and password safe, never use the same password on other online websites and also stay safe from phishing sites.

This is easiest
All you have to do is never compromise yourself
Never give out your keys
Avoid signing of message via dubious links

The security of your private key is the only defense of your earnings. It is equally accurate that you do not share it with anyone, or your earning can also be zero. Use it only with your wellet only at the time of the transaction.

To ensure your private keys are safe I suggest on you is to keep your private on a safe place, do some duplicate on it, avoid phishing sites so that your account would not be scammed. Only you should know your secrets on the keys of different wallet

What? Really? And if in fact, you just need to go to your wallet as often as possible, using a private key and you need to be careful and attentive when clicking on the links

of course but some of the issue about private key is hacking, so it's very important that you use anti virus and anti malware and avoid clicking links that you are not familiar with, install metacert so you will a green go if the online wallet you are visiting are safe and secured.

Guys your private key is important and you must keep it with extra care it must be in safe place or even don't use it to logging in with any decentralized exchange instead just used Metamask if it need to. Mostly the leaks comes with this simple logging in process or for sure don't put all your Digital Asset in a single wallet for better use back up. in case of unfortunate incident happen it wont lose all.

Using the method you said is really bad cause it will still expose your to danger and there hacking or installation of logger keys on your system. The best thing you can do is key your private safe either by printing it out, save it in safety deposit box or email and always use chrome incognito mode whenever you want signing your wallet.

To prevent your wallet from being hacked, you should store your keys and passwords in a secure location and preferably offline. It would also be very desirable if you do not come across phishing sites. And as another option is to keep your savings on multiple wallets equally.
Or, you can purchase a hardware wallet.

Mine is more like a wallet that I use that do not needs any private key because it is bitcoin wallet. Still my wallet still contains password which very important and if you used it bye bye for that wallet.

Now speakng of private key, a wallet use that uses private key and prints you/gives you a peace of paper which contains a barcode like and the private key., which if you lose it say bye bye.

By protecting you private key I do not use my cellphone as a note/ a copy paste thing, I write it in a piece of paper which is I need it I just manually type it. And thatvis safety for me.

I also frequently use the hardware wallet to store my cryptocurrency because I do not put much trust in the Exchange because at present there is a lot of lost information on Exchange without cause. Know how to protect yourself before risk can occur.

besides putting it in a safe place, the important thing is to make backup files especially if it's done routinely, because we also often update the contents of our addresses. hardware wallets usage is also recommended especially if storing in large amount of bitcoin.

It is good that you have a separate main account that is its main purpose is to store all of your earned assets, and best is not to make a possible air of its wallet address online, keep it low, and also hide in a cold storage all the information regarding on your main wallet.

The wallet security is increasing and wallet hacker is being smart too. That's why it will suggest that you must use hardware wallet! hardware wallets are safer than others wallet.

Hi there, i am also a newbie in this forum but i engaged in crypto over the years, private key should be placed in a very safe place that nobody knows except you., my strategy is that i put all the very important details in an email that i never used in any transactions online., in this way i feel safe all the details, but of course this is not applicable to anyone, or you can save all the important files into a USB and you can keep it.

Nowadays, there are lots of users that has been hacked in their MEW wallet because of the phishing site, and then they input their private key, you should bookmark the websites into your browser so that, it would be easy for you to access the access everytime you need to use it, lets all be cautious in everything we do and click, because its a matter of carelessness.

If you are a long term holder of a few coins, which has a core wallets, better store it in your individual PC's rather than using the web wallets.,its because its only you, that can access you wallet in your PC, not unless, there are lots of users in your PC.

Have a great day!!

Have a great day to you sir! I was a newbie too maybe two years ago and sadly I was one of the many who had been victimized by phishing. The phisher got me via an email supposedly from the Slack site and I was then naive to think that it was all real so I log-in my MEW using the link that phisher provided...it was only weeks later when I opened back my MEW that I realized that all of the tokens/coins I bought and got from bounty hunting were all gone to the hands of the phishing attackers. I was then shocked but just like the many here there was nothing I could do but cry a little...then of course I learned the many big lessons that a newbie should realized: that here in cryptocurrency nothing can be safer and you could never be more careful as scammers and phishers are way ahead more advanced than us and the safety nets we are providing.

Most of the time that is not the case though, criminals in the internet over targeting people and trying to steal their important data and private key is also one of them.
You can see that most of people who loses their coin is not handing away their privkey but got phished, people just need to be really aware about the importance of their private key

If you are just using an android phone or a mobile phone, keeping your private key on your phone doesn't guarantee it's safety. It is wise to copy it literally, i mean jot it down on a piece of paper and secure it's safety from a hidden place where only you could know where it is.

yeah, of course you are right about that.
it's hard to trust everyone even though it's our own mentor, we just keep storing the private key as our own secret.

only we are allowed to know it, and the most important thing is that we also cannot go into a site that is not safe there is a possibility that they can copy our private key. i only give advice.

When you are a newbie and it is new for you to create a new wallet, it is good for you to know the safety of your wallet, from checking how legit the wallet link is upto how its really works, aside from that it is very normal to us to keep it safe and do alot of back up of it, also by keeping the very important private key to secure all you future coins on it. Just remeber all things that related in crypto has need to be backed up for more security purposes.

Keeping safe private keys and passwords of wallets are vital, else you will be hacked. You can use paper wallets, cold wallets or else bookmark the genuine site of the wallet and access the wallet by using the bookmark. Best is to use hardware wallets if you can, but there is a limitation of type of coins one could store.

Also keep backups of your keys/wallets in a very safe place.  If you ever need to recover your keys this will make it so much easier and better.  You basically need a disaster recovery plan.

It is just like password so why you need to give it to someone else?  There are too much kind of wallet but I think if you have a huge amount of token, just divide it into different wallet if you scared of losing it.  Just save your private key because there are no back up when you forget that.

We usually get hacked once we got visited unknown sites or person asking our private keys. Having a bookmark will be a huge help to prevent from losing our wallet keys.  So we should be cautious and always have a check before going anything. It is most important also not to engage transactions asking for our wallet keys cause it might be a scam.

Of course, you should NEVER give your private key away for any reasons.

To keep your private key safe, I wouldn't even recommend you take a photo of it, and store it in your phone. Neither would I recommend you to keep a copy in Evernote, Outlook or Gmail.

The best way is still a pen and paper. Write down your private key and keep it LOCKED up. If you want to take further precaution, you could purposely omit 1 or 2 letters out, and keep it remembered in your mind. (Which is what I'm doing). This is to ensure that even in the scenario someone manages to get the key and unlock the safe, your funds would still be safe.

Indeed and never be fall on the sugar coated words of the others because this is one of the main reason why others gave their key on the other person because they are deceive by the fake promises of the other like they gonna transfer some token in you account etc. that is why they give their key on it. So maybe the best way to rid this kind of act is to be smart so that you will have no regret in the end.

You have to keep your wallet address and your private key separately, just in case someone find it and try to access it for their own. You can ask your family member to keep it, like your mother or brother and sister. I can't guarantee it's the safest place, but at least it's safer than the computer.

I think the best solution is to have a dedicated PC or a notebook for keeping private keys and to use that PC just for making transactions. Also I can intimate you that it would be better no to use Microsoft Windows because this OS is quite vulnerable for viruses. If you are familiar with Linux it would be better to use namely Linux because Linux is more suitable and safer for keeping private data and making transactions.

Saving a private key to the place that you only knows like files and documents you can hide it. The safety of your private key is very important. We have seen a lot of persons lose some funds not cos they got scammed or anything, but cos they lost their private keys and lost access to their accounts. This is why it is advise that while you might want to keep it secured from others, also make sure that you keep it somewhere that is easily accessible to you.

In order to safely store my cryptoactives, I would advise using hardware wallets such as Trezor, Ledger ... I personally use the Ledger Nano S wallet, it supports more than 30 cryptocurrencies. When you use a hardware wallet, your private key, which grants access to your coins, is never displayed and is protected on a chip blocked by a PIN.

Hardware wallets is the best option . I had always thought they were silly toys. Boy was I wrong. They are the Holy Grail of Bitcoin storage and use. There are three main hardware wallets worth looking at: Trezor, Keepkey, and Ledger Nano S. They all do the same basic thing, but in different ways. They create the cryptographic private key on the device itself. This takes all the concern about hacking and trojans away.

Fully agree with your statement. Now, the attackers realized that the deception with the introduction of Privatekey was no longer working and transferred all their forces to the creation of phishing sites that receive your information, which further leads to the theft of funds from wallets.

Guys, VERY CAREFULLY see links to sites where you go.

Well your wallet is where you keep your coin safe and it always important to protect it
One of the best way is to protect your private key never give it out to any one even if it's your mentor that is very important

Ofcourse, every crypto investor or people who are into crypto must be aware on his wallet. And how he can make safe about his wallet. We must know how to make safe about our wallets. In online wallet having some private keys or address, we must not give this to anyone unless you are trusting that person but be sure to have some backup list of your wallets and different private keys in order for you to not forget about it.

Private Keys, Address and wallet info's must be put in a safe place or kept it away from other people that are suspicious and threat to it. We must know how to easily and right manage our safety keys and different infos of our wallet in able to avoid getting scam and end up losing all of your funds. We must be aware of the things might happen if we let our wallet info's known by others. Be wise in keeping it.

Why would you ever think to give anyone your Private key? 100% NO your public key is a different matter as this is your route to receiving funds. If you have a secure location like a safe or lock box then that is the best place to keep the print out of your Private Key or a USB I never keep electronic versions on my computer.

Can you give me an example of a wallet that uses 2FA?  As far as I know, it's only on exchangers and it's not recommended to keep assets there.

I am personally until now safe even though my mentor also holds my private key, because he's the one who taught me how to make a wallet, and I really believe him.

Absolutely, giving out your private key is the worst thing that you can ever do as you have given that person unlimitied access to your wallet. The best way for me to store it is to write it down, somewhere that no one can get to it. So in the case of your computer getting hacked you do not have to worry about the hackers getting their hands on the keys

That's good thing to do securing you private keys must be confidential. You should have a back-up files for your entire private keys saved on excel file spreadsheet. This won't endanger your funds to being lost, because no one could have access to it but you. If you planned that any of your family member be trusted, them do it because your family won't let you go during days of circumstances.

It is important that we'll have our private keys safe because the security of our earnings rely in it. There should only be at least one person who knows our orivate keys aside from us to make sure that it is far from being hacked. We should just entrust it to a trusted person.

Perfect.

You don't have to give your private key even to your mentor. If your wallet has funds then don't just simply give it to anyone and trust them with your money that's not how you keep your private keys safe. You have trust to him because he taught you? no that's not enough, your money is your money and you have to keep it.

Most of people say beware of phishing but phishing is a large area to be discussed and it includes lots of other security things that a person should now.
First of all we should have a clean PC with no keylogger or any other software that can steal the clipboard (the place where copy-paste is stored)
Secondly use wallets as much as offline and use trusted websites if you choose online wallets or so.

This is very vital, using PC's with no keylogger or software that enables stealing the clipboard where copy-paste function is stored on the PC is one vital safety precaution that a lot of people tend to ignore. Is there a way to find out and even purge the PC of this malware please?

The main and Golden rule of saving your coins on the wallet, it is never to tell anyone your password . And try to keep the coins on the wallet that you do not specify anywhere in the companies and projects of generosity. It's called a cold wallet.

All the official application for mobile phone could be found in App Store or Google Play. When somebody tries to convince to download file, it is a trap.
You should even always be careful what you want to download in this day and age, and as long as you are not sure of the source of such applications, it is always better you go for what every other person is going for.

Generally, the safety of something is dependent on your approach to the security of that thing, and as long as you are not able to get what you have secured enough, then that is going to be a very huge problem most of the time. Just ascertain most of the time, where you are storing or entering your private key, because once it falls in the wrong hands, you are done.

Yes, the safest way to store a private key is to write it down on paper or print it out and put it in a safe. Then, without a great need not to go to that wallet. Also check the computer or device from which you go to the Internet for viruses. And finally, turn on 2fa.

Although the security of the wallet is so high, you still have the potential to lose money because the hackers should always pay attention to your wallet and protect it as your personal information. sorry

You are absolutely right that the private key of your wallet should only be with you and should not be given to anyone, but that’s not all to protect your wallet. There are other ways to hack your wallet. One of the most common ways is the phishin site, in other words, you can send an interesting message with a link that leads to a fake site and if you do not understand this, you can also get into the hands of a hacker. Also, by sending you files, you can get remote access to your PC and also find out all the important information if it is stored on your PC. In any case, you need to be very careful and closely monitor the information that will be sent to you, and sent her will definitely.

Yes, we must be more careful when opening the site. For safer storage, my friend recommends storing private keys offline, such as flash disk and others. So, until now I still believe that file storage with offline methods will be safer than hackers.

We also consider on visiting scam sites(accidentally) which could be similar to the legit one. The lost of account keys problem is still existing unless we take actions on it individually. No other person could help us, it is our own security measures we usually practice at all times. That is why, we should be vigilant and read carefully or bookmarks legit sites to avoid from visiting phishing sites.

Private keys play a central role in verifying these messages, identifying senders and recipients and securing networks. Anyone who knows your private key can steal your funds.Any valid signature bearing will be accepted by the Bitcoin network. At the same time, anyone who owns an individual key can create a valid transaction. These two things being done together mean that someone only knows your private key can steal you. So never give anyone a private key, and remember to install a private key with a strong and unpredictable password.

of course we have to guard our private keys so that no one can steal coins from our wallets, but it is undeniable that hackers are now getting smarter to steal other people's private wallet keys, one example is by phishing usually by manipulating wallet site by creating a site that resembles the wallet site, so it should be more careful and do not just enter our wallet's private key into a less trusted site.

Of course, the person that is giving their private key to other users is stupid enough. Make sure to treat your account carefully and if possible, never expose it online.
Possibly, a lot of people do not understand the importance of the word private, which makes it not to be for the public eyes and in short, its safety is totally dependent on you and how you store those private keys.

This is the main reason I always say that rather than putting your private keys in different places, it is always better to at least get a hardware wallet for cold storage as the private key is stored on the device. In that case at least, you have your full control. Also, asides that, you really need to be watchful where you are entering your private keys in most times.

Your private key is the key to your bank so guiding jealously  and  it is not a misplaced priority. The private key is so arranged that once your private key is compromised then the hacker or the thieve has taken over your wallet and can come in any time and goes out anytime. Infact you are no longer the owner of that account. The need to protect your private key is not overemphasized because that is your bank where you keep your fortune. Never give out your private key for any online  transaction. There are scammers sending  message on the forum about a project that will  soon pay, informing their victims a  to click a link to finish their registration. Do not click any link.

If you're using a wallet based in private key (Myetherwallet, Metamask etc) the safest is to archive with password the file containing your private key and, if course, not to holding it on online platforms (e-mail, google drive etc).

Personally, I'm a big fan of cold wallets. I bought a Ledger Nano S, it has no private key, funds cannot be stolen from here and this is definitely the safest solution existing today. (It costs ~100$, but it worths every single penny  :) )

Also, protect your passwords too. As for private keys, you may save these keys into two usb and store them on two different secured locations.  Remember to make the file encrypted with strong password.  If anyone found the usd, the encryption will save your data from being open and stolen.

Same here, always encrypt the file that contains your private keys stored in USB's.
If you can get a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor, even better.

the private key is the entrances of the wallet. When this can be accessed by others then surely what is in the wallet will be lost completely. do not store it in the site online because it will be very prone to hackers who will indeed roam free enough. but certainly, also don't get too tightly keep because even if missing then it will culminate in not usually opened the wallet as well.

Better to keep your key encrypted, there were wallets who gives back ups in different form for us to be away from any malicious software trying to get the private key. I have a wallet called HODLER wallet that gives secure backup, this back is stored in a encrypted archive so no could have accES. I have it on my email and even though they hacked my email they can't still get what's inside the file since it requires another password. The password are in different form like QR code. We could not trust anybody with our funds, tgat is why it is essential to keep the password safe and have backup for it.

When you use hardware wallets , such as ledger nano , no need to worry that you'll ruin your private key. Your private key providing access to your coins, never displayed. Ledger all wallets have "chip / smart card", which includes the secure element. This chip is used for high security applications such as protection of biometric data on passports or credit card information

The problem of theft of keys from users computers after their devices are infected with a virus is much more relevant. It is very important to ensure that your computer is not infected with malicious code, because all valuable information stored on it can be stolen.

The best way is not to store the key in electronic form, but to print the private key when creating the wallet and store this sheet in a safe place.  You can also download jason file, but the password to it, too, don't keep in electronic form. And, of course, to have 10-15 MEW , although it is certainly not very convenient , but more secure.

In fact, you said absolutely rightly that it is better to print information only on a paper basis and store it in a safe place, because electronic media and digital formats have certain risks. and paper is best kept away from fire, and nothing more.

Never used private keys to access any of your wallet. I never used my private key to access my MEW because it's not safe. Always open your wallet with Json file or with password and also make sure to used Google Authenticator in some of your wallets. The private key is something that we must take good care of, keep it where we feel is safe enough and never tell anyone our personal key, thus we will avoid theft that might be done by irresponsible people. My advice is to use the Nano Ledger to store crypto assets that you have, because that seems safe enough.

I actually use an open source multiwallet where I store all my funds in one app. The wallet allows me to generate private key for each coin but stored all in one software. It woyld be safer since its more organize, and the best thing About it is that, I can have tge private key in a encrypted file having in different time like qr code. There are two modes of private key storage;

- Hot storage; which is online
- Cold storage; which is offline

Having your wallet details installed in online wallets like Metamask is ok, but for those who's wallets is of much value; i'd advice that they imbibe cold storage of their coin as you never know when a cyber hacker that has been spending months in an attempt to hack into the site will succeed.  ;D

Already, some people has given good ideas on how to personally keep your private keys to yourself and not share them with anyone. I think i'll go with that idea. ;D

yes of course our wallets must be properly guarded and not do stupid things by giving private keys to others, whatever it is, never send private keys to anyone if your pocket doesn't want to be empty. carefully save assets because all controls are in your own hands

Safe your private key in an offline file and have a printed copy of it.

This is understandable, but if such a case happens when a hacker hacks the server and gets access to your wallet? the case has already been and no one is immune from this, so besides the copy of the keys, you also need to follow the news about what happens to the wallet itself.

Any online wallet is prone to hacks so if you want the safest, get yourself a hardwallet. Though when it comes to private keys, you also have to be careful in handling your hardwallet keys. It'll be harder to retrieve your coins in a hard wallet if you lost your keys there.

You have point on this mate but another thing if you want to keep your wallet really safe you should not trust in copy pasting. If you do, make sure not to copy the whole numbers, atleast copy your private key incompletely and type the missing one after pasting. Through this you can keep your wallet safe from hackers.

One of the best way is to protect your private key never give it out to any one even if it's your mentor that is very important
This is for new guys like me
There are too much of hacker or scammers here in crypto industry where they create some fake forms, fake referral links, or even fake exchange's sites, just to get the private keys of the users or people who signed in their wallet/s on those fake sites. It is better to check first the URL , if it is secure before proceeding in.

Safety in crypto space cannot be over emphasized. It is very important to secure your assets, nobody needs to tell you. Please for private keys, never backup using social media or email, use an offline backup. Use web3 browser extensions like metamask to access web wallets, do not input private key directly, to avoid phishing.

There is no perfect way to store your cryptocurrencies. Hackers are getting sophisticated in unlocking private keys and I think every security method is susceptible to at least one attack method. Never disclosing your private keys to anyone, offline and online is always the first measure to secure your crypto. Then you can add additional protection so if one is breached there is another to counter any threats.

I always say that if you store or operate with more than 100$ in crypto it's better buy a hardware wallet. It costs around 100$ so in my opinion every crypto trader/investor/hodler should invest 100$ in the safety first.

Yes indeed. Now it’s harder and harder to distinguish a true website from a fake one. The name may have a dot or a letter that is similar in spelling and that's it - you are trapped. I do not think that the storage of the key causes someone problems, you can just save the private key on a flash drive and store there, without connecting the flash drive to the Internet , I think it is worth installing a phishing plugin that will protect you from this as usually hacked phishing

Never save your private key on your mobile phone just as mobile could easily be compromised. Another thing is thatn if the private keys is been saved on the mobile device, one might mistakenly enter a phishing site which will automatically stole all the private and seeds saved on the device.

Just keep your coins in your wallet, add it to your browser's bookmarks, and go to the purse only if necessary, and there will not be problems.

i agree to this statement, but if there are lots of users to your pc in your area, then it could not be safe, one thing i did so far is to safe keep your data in a private email not used in any transaction.

Giving the private key to someone is not a wise decision! It is totally unpredictable when your wallet can get hacked! So, Using hardware wallet could be the best decision and to secure your private key or hardware wallet's phrase code, you should write them down in a offline paper, never capture a picture of those codes and you shouldn't share any of those codes in online. Then you will be safe enough!

You are not thinking if you will give out your private keys to anyone without permission.
Private keys are like the pin code of our bank accounts in terms of cryptocurrency.
Don't give it to anyone unless you gave permission.

If you are not using an hardware wallet please don't save your private key in any computer/dropbox etc... it's very risky. The only safe way to store it is to print it and put in a safe place.

Where do most of you keep your 12 or 24 word phrase key then?  Do you break it up in multiple locations?  Or all in the same place but break it up?  Do you put it in 2 different locations in case?

Just keep your coins in your wallet, add it to your browser's bookmarks, and go to the purse only if necessary, and there will not be problems.

It's hard to entrust your data from any online service not even an email, much better to save it from your data storage and keep it away from anyone unless those who you full trust, private key are the one which hackers are trying to steal from you, it's your protection for your assets so make sure to keep it very safe.

the question is how do you secure your private key?
if I personally do not tell my private key to someone else except the one I trust and also I save it on a computer that is not used by anyone other than me and also the computer is only specific to crypto needs so it is less likely to be hacked.

Well your wallet is where you keep your coin safe and it always important to protect it
One of the best way is to protect your private key never give it out to any one even if it's your mentor that is very important
This is for new guys like me

Of course there is no one who want to give their private key to other peoples.
But the problem is, you will need to use the private key when you want to use the wallet for send coin.
This is the flaw of your safety, thats why many peoples recommend using other method than private key to use the wallet.

Yes, you must be careful of the fraud committed in the Crypto world. Our digital assets are very important so we have to keep them in a safe wallet. You have to take good care of the private key of the wallet and not be easy to trust others.

most cases may lose their wallet key fault of their own. and for a case like this could have been avoided with vigilance. but for cases with hackers who can find keys and breaking into our wallet that probably we cannot avoid.

The private key is the key to our safe, so if we know someone, of course we lose the property we have. even though we can check where the coin goes, but we don't know who did it
