Title: @Theymos @Cyrus can you reconsider on permabans Rules ? [after 3 month]
Post by: Rapid123 on October 05, 2018, 05:44:50 PM
@Theymos @hilariousandco

Is it not better to Lay down some flexible rules before permanent banning ?

At least give em Second chance Or a temp ban Or even paid options to be lifted ban.
For example Second chance can be very tough! Removing sig for ever! limited access to forum sections! Paid option up to 500$ - 1 year banning period or ....

Humans make mistakes. permabans without warning is exactly same as execution. Im sure everyone made mistake, either here or in real life! So you should get banned on life because of mistakes? Where is mercy and kindness ?

I See many Spammer after getting banned , goes in marketplace, purchase new account and start again!
But There are the ones who know they made mistake! i really know it was my fault. And i would never create new account.
Pls Just Add some flexible rules, To Grant a new chance to regretful people.

Unfortunately my main account received Autoban ( i was not part of any bounty or other crappy campaigns).

Guys just be calm and Dont be harsh. No one is jesus.
Regards

IMO, permabans for plagiarism should stand.  Copy/pasting is usually a clear case of wrongdoing and something everyone should know not to do.  If you make the consequence for that a temporary ban, people will just keep doing it until they get caught--which they're basically doing anyway.  Plagiarism isn't a mistake people are making.  In fact, if you're getting permabanned here, it's usually a certainty that the person isn't making a mistake at all.  They know exactly what they're doing and they know it's wrong.

Where is mercy and kindness ?
Oh, please.  You can't deal with the level of idiocy bitcointalk is seeing with mercy or kindness.  Such sentiments will only give incentive for plagiarists and others to keep breaking the rules and making the forum worse than it already is.

I assume you're talking about copy-pasting here, as that apparently is what you got perm-banned for?

If it was merely a mistake by a user, or a one-time thing, i would be inclined to agree.

In practice however this usually isn't the case. 99% of the people who are getting banned are people who are doing this for monetary gain, and systematically. Giving them a second chance would only pollute the forum even more.

Which means you have to choose between making exceptions for everyone, and no one. I guess the forum (rightly so) chose the latter.

Except that you do get warned. They're not given without a reason, (well, atleast not that i know of.)

In regards to your "mistakes" I'm guessing you mean plagiarism.

For less serious offences there are varying lengths in Bans, which can act as warnings. Many older members have been hit by those and have had to learn from that. What they didn't do was steal someone else intellectual property and pass it off as their own.

The only people here trying to get these bans reduced or removed are just going to fill the boards with spammy shitposts, and when they need to look like they are trying to get out of jr. status they'll plagiarize. Not to mention there is no "accidentally" doing this. If you copy/paste a portion or entire article, you are more than capable of doing the same for the source.

Edit: Guess everyone figured out the "mistake"

IRL, plagiarism gets you expelled from a college. Copy/pasting ain't human error, intentional to steal someone else's work, same as stealing gets you landed in jail. In this forum plagiarism comes down to greed and being too lazy, flexibility would be too much to ask.

Like hilariousetc mentioned on another thread, maybe Sig can be removed for a time period for plagiarists, but nothing less than an year. Guess flexible and a chance for the regretful to correct their mistakes or leave.

a year ?
I would even wait for 2 years and without Sig for ever!
i really loved my account and will Do anything to get it back. i would pay for it. i would delete all my post!

Either 1 year banning period or removing sig for ever! but My whole purpose is that there should be some rules For people like me.

Everyone who registers on this forum is advised to stay on read mode for a little time and hence get acquainted with what the forum is about and most especially forum rules,if there were no rules, then your claim could be welcomed, but the rules are there for everyone to see,in schools various offences attract different punishments,in this forum plagiarism is strictly frowned upon and attracts a perma ban.

There are other offences that attract a temporary ban.

So, this is the 2nd thread you have created on that topic. Be prepared for the ban, lol. you have broken rules, I mean ban evasion.

Paid option up to 500$
Whom will you pay? Theymos doesn't take money from forum income and you are trying to give bribe  ;D

Hilariousandco will not be able to help you, I guess only admin has power to grant you pardon.

Now coming to Theymos:
1. Barely able to meet the demands of community after community/hilriousandco created threads for actionable item. Note: Threads was for welfare of community and by global Mod but still it took more than a month by theymos to write "ok" or "not ok".
2. People who have account hacked are still waiting for their account unlocked for almost an year. They are also ready to give the payments for their accounts. Can't you see a very busy admin here who is not able to help the users who are following rules in the forum?
3. Money does not matter to him so stop offering him any money related suggestion to him.

Now coming to you(Rapid123)

Try your luck with Cyrus if he like to help you.
Don't be so much burdened by your ban.Forum only taken the write access from you.You can still read here. It is fair from my perspective to take your write access when you are not able to write your own thoughts and need copy-pasting.

Paid option to lift ban...haha.

Ban evading isn't enforced. You simply could create a new account and carry on with spamming/plagiarism until you're caught again and another new account.

But since now the restrictions are there, a below Jr member losing an account isn't as easy a solution to create a new one and level up within a month or two.

So giving another chance for above JrM's banned for plagiarism is a bit too much to ask when there is no guarantee they have learnt their lessons.

Better solution, create a new account, if you're not breaking any rules and making average posts, not exceptional, getting merits within a year or two would get you further on this forum than whining over this account now.

AFAIK theymos has unbanned at least a couple of users perma-banned for plagiarism:

- one who could prove they were framed
- one who messed up quoting

That sounds like enough flexibility. But please feel free to show the post you were banned for so that we can evaluate it.

Copy paste could not be by mistake. Stolen contant from others isn't mistake. It's a criminal work. Already lot of hole for spammer. I don't think theymos need to compromised with plagiarism.

As others have already said, copy and pasting isn't a mistake and staff shouldn't have to waste time giving people warnings for this. It's probably one of the worst sins you can do here and people should just read the rules because there's no excuses for plagiarism and you should know or expect that this isn't acceptable under any circumstances. This is a discussion forum, not a place to copy and paste other's content. If you do that then you're doing it for only one reason: to get paid. It's pure greed and laziness and if you're the sort of person that does this then we don't want or need you here as you aren't interested in contributing anything worthwhile. The only amendment I would ever consider to this rule would be either the permanent or long-term removal of the signature and you can still post, and maybe after 6/12 months of contributing you can get it back if you've earned enough merit or something, but even then maybe you shouldn't be allowed to claim bounties either. Regardless, I would suggest people just read the rules and stop fucking copy and pasting then you won't be permabanned and the problem is solved. Staff don't like having to ban people for this but there needs to be harsh message sent that this isn't acceptable at all and those caught will pay the ultimate price for doing so.

I Received Autoban because of copy pasting my own post!

What are you talking about? You weren't banned for copying your own posts. You were banned for copying others:

Sure. I still support ETH. This coin worth investing safely & effectively in the crypto market. ETH is based on an improved blockchain version and a smart contract. I always trust and support the ETH to the end no matter what the outcome.

Yes. I still support ETH. This is a coin worth investing safely and effectively in the cryptocurrency market. ETH is based on an improved blockchain version and a smart contract. I always trust and support the ETH to the end no matter what the outcome. Come on! Try fighting!

It doesn't matter what excuses you come out with, people are permabanned for this behaviour and you won't be an exception unless theymos decides to changes the rules here, but I don't see why he would nor should he.

Your request would not be granted for it will make things more complicated allowing you to lift the ban will let others to go and ask theymos to do the same thing. Even if I were theymos I would not lift the ban for a good reason that when join a forum you should respect the admin and the post of the people you copied and owned it as owned it for that is Plagiarism.

Plagiarism is a serious offense even in the real life situation. Thus, will let you get in jail for it.

I wish you have learned your lessons here.

IMO, permabans for plagiarism should stand.  Copy/pasting is usually a clear case of wrongdoing and something everyone should know not to do.  If you make the consequence for that a temporary ban, people will just keep doing it until they get caught--which they're basically doing anyway.

I am in complete agreement with this. Just imagine what this forum would turn into if posters could just copy some text, and post it into a thread without understanding the thread or the posted text. It isn't difficult to post a link to an article, and add a personal comment to open up a discussion. In my opinion, failure to do this indicates volume spamming with no interest in the welfare of the forum.

It is one of the regrettable consequences of allowing sig spamming on the English boards, when the spammer has little or no understanding of English.

The unauthorised use of images is far more of a problem for content producers and users. The Internet is awash with images, and many of them are provided by their producers for use without restriction. For example, Jazz Pics - Kuffy's free image galleries (https://jazzpics.com/) contains pictures taken by me, and offered to posters and website developers with few restrictions. I just ask that the watermark is left on the image. I know that even this minor request is abused by many people. Google provides massive galleries of images, and the links are often to secondard user sites, and it can be almost imosible to track down the originator, especially if the EXIF data has been removed.
