Title: Merit begging
Post by: jacee on October 10, 2018, 04:50:48 AM
Just a rant here about people that low-key begs merit.
Someone posted on my WTB thread and it just annoys me.

-snip-
do not hesitate to donate your Merit.  ;)

This is not the first time that I have received a message like this. I even get pms from people I made transaction with asking for merits.

Are we allowed to negged these accounts?

You can leave negative feedback for any reason you wish if you think it's appropriate, but I would either just report the post and/or tell him to stop it as it's likely to get him negative eventually if he keeps doing it. That users posts are trash but I can't see any other place he's begged for it so maybe a warning will suffice.

I'm posting here as a reference for the red trust I'm about to give Xi Jinpi (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2163943). He sent me a PM asking to buy my account:

(Reported to Admin)

He's also trying to buy Merit in public, so that he can sell it again:
I want to buy merit.
The purpose is not to deceive, but rather to sell to the lower members. and where to buy
please help me
thank you

I replied to that idiot earlier. Had a little fun with it.

My favorite part of your reference post was the skilled use of whiteout. Tres bien of youyou

I didn't see that on my (cheap) laptop screen, it looked totally white there. Only on my phone I see what you mean.

What gets me is that he seriously thinks he can buy my account without anyone noticing :D
LoyceV, shitposter, who's gonna notice :D

I think it would have been a bigger shocker when LoyceV was applying to Bounty's. While simultaneously dropping 20 merits on bounty reports.

That's probably when I'd clue in  ;D .

Should have told him how offended you were at his valuation of your account.

@LoyceV: great to see you take action against such a character :)... Slightly offtopic, but still relevant: i can still read this guy's email address, even after you tried to blur it... If you were serious protecting his email, you might want to swith to a different blurring tool ;)
I personally use greenshot on my work pc (windows), it's image editor has tools to completely remove any part of a screencap and/or securely blur any part of the text...

I'm more offended by the use of some shitcoin to make an offer!

It's a first, as it's the first one who tried to buy my account.

Done, it's black instead of white now.

I don't think that a random message on the forum is red trust worth if the guy begs for merit on every post or for DM is a different thing.

I think giving a neg to that guy would be completely appropriate.  It's been a while, but I've had idiots sending me PMs begging for merits and I've negged them.  Nobody's wanted to buy my account, though (lol).

As far as OP's situation goes, I probably would just report that post.  That one is annoying, but IMO it doesn't rise to the level of deserving a negative feedback.  Especially when a statement like that is only part of a post and not the entire post, it doesn't even qualify as "begging".  Real begging could be seen in Meta right around the time when the merit system was introduced in January and again last month when the 1-merit Newbie rank-up requirement change happened.

Thankfully we don't see much more of this.  It could be a lot worse than it is.

New kind of merit begging via PMs,tagging that newbie account have nothing worrying for him,we need to find his main account by responding and need to tag that account.I think we need to create a new thread for the merit beggars to be reported since this kind of activity increasing in our forum.

I remember some time ago I got PM from user who asked to send Merit. For curiosity I checked his posts. And guess what I found - ALL of his post was "Proof of authentication" messages". But I didn't bothered to report him as Merit beggar, I just called him spammer :D. You can report these beggars to DT members, or tag them yourself with reference. But personally, I don't report beggars because it's not a big issue, scammers, account sellers for example are more red tag worthy.
