Title: Google Ad Reveals Search Giant's Feelings On Bitcoin And Crypto
Post by: Nicholson55 on October 11, 2018, 01:11:59 AM
Forbes were talking about Google Ad and their adverse feelings towards Bitcoin and crypto yesterday and it got me thinking... do you really think it has that big of an effect? Do you think this is overly affecting people's perceptions of Bitcoin and crypto? Or is it just water under the bridge? What do you think affects peoples perceptions more?

Google Ads don't affect people's perception and sentiment towards bitcoin in any way. Also, it's not as if Google is the representative of the masses for this particular issue, so why would it make sense in the first place? It's also worth noting that during bull runs, people rely on Google to find some quick info regarding the coin, and see for themselves what they think about the crypto. Personally, I think the headlines and mainstream news are affecting people's mindset on bitcoin more than Google ads do, since most are still believing anything what these news anchors say. They still believe the credibility of CNN, BBC and the likes over something posted on the internet.

What adverse feelings? Share a link.

And is Google Ad a division of Alphabet or are you talking about advertisements on Google's search engine? Thanks.

since more than 90% of the advertisement that used to use Google Ads before the ban hammer came, were NOT even about bitcoin but instead about scams such as ICOs, fake wallets, malwares, ponzi schemes, shitcoins, pump groups,... i would say that it has nothing to do with bitcoin at all. so NO it is not affecting people's perceptions of Bitcoin!
maybe it  made the whole ecosystem look like a scam-fest back when Google was allowing these types of ads but that has stopped now.

I think the price of Bitcoin will affect the most people. Because current blockchain technology has not been taught in many universities and there are too few books on it. That makes many people do not understand bitcoin and always mistaken that it is a bad market. We need to make the blockchain technology grow much wider in the world so people know more about it.

I believe Google Ads can always help more people know about new projects and ICO. Although most recent projects were just scam, some who have solid foundations can use Ads and new people may be interested in cryptos.

Beyond ICO, ads can be really useful for discovering new services. For example, when you buy a ticket for a show, you may find that a new company is selling tickets using BTC. Or when you search for airline tickets, you can receive an advertisement from another company with a cheaper price and accept BTC.

The google's mechanism of following you to every corner of the internet is bad and risky. But from the commercial point of view, it is excellent. A person with a small interest in BTC will start receiving several service announcements that use cryptocurrency as a means of payment.

They will realize that cryptocurrencies have utility beyond speculation. And will begin to prefer to use BTC than PayPal or credit card.

Here's the likely source:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/billybambrough/2018/10/10/google-ad-reveals-search-giants-feelings-on-bitcoin-and-crypto/

For those too lazy to watch/read:

Quote
The light-hearted Google ad (you can watch it in full here) involves one character's electricity provider calling him to warn him of his high electricity bill, which he blames on "cryptocurrency mining [taking] a lot of energy."

He is then told cryptocurrency isn't "real" money, to which he responds: "Well, I've got news for you, money isn't real."

I don't think this reveals any feelings or whatever. Bitcoin is just part of pop culture nowadays. Their feelings don't matter anyway; only their actions do.

I agree that Google ads do not change a person's perception of bitcoin because each person has his own opinion about bitcoin. Need more consistency and development to change one's perception of bitcoin.

Google is an internet giant. Cryptos are Internet based currency. Google's decision earlier on to ban did affect the market, but the impact was very low. as Google and facebook were only considered for marketing stratergy.

They are not influencers but are now getting influenced with the popularity of Cryptos.

This news can be considered as another way to create FOMO in the market.

As of my knowledge, Google might be trying to de-market bitcoins and other cryptos. Google, as a matter of fact, is the highest used search engine worldwide. People surely have a sense of trust bound with Google and whatever Google tells us is thought to be true even if it is just a perception. We cannot turn a blind eye to this fact and should look out for its solution instead of letting anyone de-market Bitcoins and cryptos.

Google is  big company and many people follow their activities. Google ad effect the crypto and its investors. once google banned the crypto advertisement, the price of all coins effects and decrease the number of investors.

What makes you say that?

I mean, on one hand they painted Bitcoin in a questionable light in this ad for one of their services. On the other, they provided publicity and they're allowing licensed exchanges to advertise through their channels again. Even if the former is a negative, the latter should still make it an overall net positive.

Genuinely curious as I don't understand why some people seem to paint Google as solidly anti-crypto.

I agree with you google does not directly affect the people's awareness about bitcoin. People's perception of the most affected bitcoin is the government's decision about bitcoin. google only advertises bitcoin images for people. It does not really affect people's perceptions.
