Title: Is there a Uniform Code of Bitcointalk Justice where user's lose rank?
Post by: zoose on October 13, 2018, 02:23:01 AM
In the military when a Marine violates the standards/code of conduct they're demoted.

For example a Sergeant (E-5) who willfully breaks the code can be demoted to Private First Class (E-2) if the infraction warrants that type of punishment. They're not Dishonorably Discharged but the striping of rank is a pretty significant deterrant.

I know a user can be banned for spamming or scamming but say that User is FULL MEMBER can they be busted down to a Newbie?

In effect devaluing their accounts to the lowest level and giving them a chance to redeem themselves if it is merited.

Just wondering.

Sounds like merit fines that could accompany account suspensions. An interesting idea, but I’m not sure it would be viewed as worth the effort.

No, I don't think it's good idea. Even current rules it's very difficult to prevent spam, if you give more opportunity to spammer than they will spam more.

To be honest, I will never believe that banned people's are not creating new account. Because there is not ip restriction, even there is, people's easily can bypass it. So demote to newbie and banned is same almost. And I believe those people are getting ban they are well reputed member's or assets of forum. Most of ban are happening for plagiarism, and obviously it's a crime. I don't think forum should give more chance to spammers.

Merit abuse will not too hard for spammer. They can bought or trade it easily.

Posts that violate the rules may be deleted, along with the associated activity points. If in this way a user's activity is reduced below the minimum required for their rank, they will automatically lose that rank as well. In fact if you lurk in Meta enough you'll see the occasional spammer complaining that they've lost rank after having their posts deleted, though not nearly as many as those complaining that they've been banned outright.

Same topic here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033455.msg45933259#msg45933259) and i think we did have the answer.

I'm against the idea of demerits to be honest. However, the current problem we have is newbies actually making an effort to make 1 good quality post or a few until they receive their merit, and they'll then go back to spamming their bounty shit, and we'll be no better off. I would of personally preferred the merit requirement to be higher.

I get your idea, but this could be abused easily/misused in many ways. Increasing merit requirement for some ranks, limiting signature features for few ranks and permanent ban for obvious merit abuse are far better and should be easier to be implemented.
Report button on merit page and hidden list of trusted member (which only can be seen by moderator/admin when see reports) should be better.

You put down a suggestion of reduction of ranks, but without any suggested offences that'll attract such, maybe if you come up with possible offences that should attract such, then it may be discussed

But for now I think every offence already has its penalties,if it's an unhelpful comment it gets deleted,a plagiarised one gets the user and the account banned, account farming also gets the account banned..ETC

we'll love to see the offense you're suggesting that should attract demotion, though I doubt if it'll ever be implemented
