Title: China can destroy bitcoin
Post by: airdagon on October 16, 2018, 10:15:57 PM
very interesting when we hear that academics from Princeton University and academics from the University of Florida have concluded that China has the potential to threaten stability, internet infrastructure, security and bitcoin development.

in the world of mining, China dominates using ASIC vendors. China controls mining hashrate, so they affect the bitcoin protocol.

Is there a solution to stop that potency  ?

I think it's difficult because most miners at the moment are controlled by China but seeing the fact that many mining projects are large-scale and use unused factories and use environmentally friendly energy it is not impossible that the prospect of the protocol will switch

China will always have a big impact. When China supported Crypto, the development of Crypto would increase and when China did not support Crypto, its influence on Crypto would deteriorate. This is unavoidable because China has a very large market share and this is always the case for every country that has great capability and influence. China currently dominates mining and this has a big impact on energy sustainability and usually the government will determine what they value far better.

Well. China is a country with a big economy in the world. China has a population of very densely. 70% of bitcoins are traded in China. If the Chinese government bans bitcoin, it will cause many bad effect to the electronic money market. I hope this will not happen. Bitcoin is still growing strong. Many bitcoin billionaire will appear.

China is very powerful country, and consist of huge population. If all the miners there will agreed to destroy bitcoin for sure it can happen, and they will just support the coin that China's made if ever. There are some possibilities for this one but I hope it will not happen in the next 10 years.

And thinking on the same page that they have much power over something, why would they do some rash decision just to assert dominance knowing that it could topple the whole network and bitcoin's value as well? They may have been challenging the US for quite some time now in being the world's economic superpower, but one thing's for sure: they wouldn't lord over other countries' with their huge hashing power just to state that they are in control. Chinese are strict businessmen, and we all know that they have the means and power so why would they need to prove such a thing?

another racist and not well thought out topic

1. "china" is not a single entity of control. there are billions of people in it. if "america" was in the same seat you should be more afraid because there are less people under that entity thus far more easy to collude.

2. many pools defined as "china" are not actually located in china or run by employees who are chinese or actually managed by china. lets take the most propagandised of them 'antpool' most people dont realise this but antpool is not one location/farm/facility. if you look at the coin reward addresses. they are not completely random. nor are they all using the same single address. antpool has like half a dozen addresses, wach one for a different facility/manager. and if you look closer some of the addresses are bech32 and some are not. which shows that the different managers have different mindsets about if they want to use segwit or not. antpool facilities are in different countries

3. other pools like f2pool have farmers/asic owners all around the world. slushpool is actually managed in thailand and farmers/asic owners around the world

4. even if we moved to GPU. firstly mining per kwh would be wildly inefficient. and then the debate would spark you "OMG AMD(ATi)" own mining

5. pools can only collate data a certain way without having blocks rejected. essentially all pools can do is only include certain transactions they like or not add certain transactions they dislike. if people see this happening and they dont like the result of it causing a backlog of unconfirms. then they can just ban certain blocks that do certain things

its the developers that have control of rule changes. not pools

imagine it like a company.
developers are the management team(node developers) and users(merchant and individuals) are the shareholders who vote for the best management teams(node) to give/control the rules of the network.
with merchants having a more majority share hold voice as individuals usually follow the merchants as users cant spend funds if a merchant decided a different team that only accepts things a certain way, thus users wont get their transactions seen if they are not using the same tool as merchants

pools are just the secretaries/PA's that just collate the company(network) data in a format the management team find acceptable

the weak point is if there isnt management teams. but one managing team and just a bunch of supervisors that just follow the single management team. as that becomes a point where the single management team can get stuck in a rutt of circle jerking one narrative of their own cabin fever desire. and the share holders have no other options but accept the narrative as there is no other unique choice

in short the diversity of nodes is more important than the diversity of blocks

indeed China has nature of being worthy of being self-sufficient. Last year China had banned BTC, and results were btc dump. but for some reason back again, until btc almost reached $ 20,000, of course China is a super power country

China government decide to ban all cryptocurrency related transactions last year 2017 theres a big affect to bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Obviously we should know china are one of the most powerful country in the world in terms of economic capitalism.

Possible to destroy bitcoin if people around the world will quit to support bitcoin, but if people continue to support bitcoin i think nobody can destroy bitcoin.

China cannot officially kill bitcoin. But because of the almost 60% of all bitcoin miners are based on China. When China governments are in chaos like banning ICO and other cryptos. It will affect the bitcoins price rapidly.

There is one stop solution for this problem : stop the FUD.

There you go you can't have best solution than that I guess. China has always been shown as the master of everything and that does start from the technological advances as well as myths about controlling the whole world. In the entire history we just heard that and nothing else has happened in reality.

Now just because they go for higher ranks in ASIC vendors then it doesn't mean they will overocme everything. That's complete FUD and what can I say misconception about the China.

It is true that most of the hash rate is controlling from China but it does not mean that China has a control over it it is the people there who are using Rigs for mining China will not affect bitcoin, China is not against of bitcoin but few of other regulations can affect bitcoin.

yes it is impossible for China to destroy Bitcoin, I think that might cause Bitcoin prices to fall because China controls Bitcoin. but China cannot completely make Bitcoin become chaotic because it is not China that makes crypto programs.

The study OP is talking about is tackled here:

https://www.newsbtc.com/2018/10/09/report-china-has-capabilities-and-strong-motive-to-destroy-bitcoin/

You can also find a link to the actual study within the article.

This is targeted towards the Chinese government. The entire thing basically hinges on the assumption that the government can seize control of all Chinese pools just because they're based there:

At the time of writing, 74% of the hash power on the Bitcoin
network is in Chinese-managed mining pools. Pool miners cannot be directly
controlled by China, but the managers are located within China and as such
are subject to Chinese authorities. Because managers are responsible for
assigning mining jobs and propagating completed blocks, they control the
inputs and outputs of their miners, allowing Chinese authorities indirect
control over that hash power.

This is obviously not a sound assumption to make because these pools have begun to diversify, and have become a lot more geographically distributed. China still has a lot of influence over Bitcoin (just by virtue of the hashrate coming from behind the great firewall), but there's practically no way they can bring the whole house down alone. I don't think they have any reason to either.

I feel this is a newbies favourite topic every time something happens and one starts to blame the chinese or starts to fear them which is absurd if you see. These people follow the media religiously that they don't even understand the ground reality, I'll agree China has the highest hash, but it's pertinent to note it's not one person in china or few governments officials who hold it, it's spread all over china which indicates there're several persons with several mindsets behind it's usage. It's high time newbies need to use logic, why would China people destroy the very thing that's minting them money, and the very currency which is not controlled by USA.

I'll add one more name to the list who fear China maybe someone can tweet him and explain him he's the current president of USA, link : https://www.forbes.com/sites/billybambrough/2018/10/16/chinas-bitcoin-dominance-is-worrying-trumps-white-house-and-pushing-it-toward-ripple/

the right solution is that if China has the advantage of bitcoin China might not do that to destroy bitcoin, that is very detrimental to many things. so I think that is something that won't happen easily even though China has everything against the step of bitcoin.

While young Chinese who are exposed and tech savvy, see a future in $Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies,  government sees more of a rebellious tool that can dismantle the strict laws that may be the undoing of communism! The Chinese have spent the last 9 to 10 months beginning from August 2017, wedging a war they can't win! Did the try to shutdown ICOs yes, Did they try to Shutdown $Bitcoin mining farms yes they did! One thing I know for sure is that while they do all of these young Chinese believers are relocating to saner climes, so killing $Bitcoin is like blocking water from flowing, one way or another it will find its way around so its "Indestructible" So I think.

how not because China is the first country to spread bitcoin and make bitcoin popular until several countries around the world, because bitcoin originally came from China, the destruction of bitcoin can be determined by China because some big investors came from China and many news China began to make Their own digital currency means that bitcoin will become very worthless. Hello,

Of course china have a lot of power on BTC due to the size of the country and number of unhabitant + miners. Every decision on crypto has a global impact of the markets. But I really doubt that they will take the risk of loosing this global position by taking bad decision against BTC. Also they could not kill it as even if they are dominant they could not control all the minor and as it is decentralized asset it stay free.

Title: Re: China can destroy bitcoin

it is very difficult to change things like this because the nature of bitcoin is decentralized, there is no regulation to limit someone to mine bitcoin, most of the supply of bitcoin circulation has been obtained by miners in China,

Decentralized or no control from the government, is one of the main weaknesses of this system. The adoption of this decentralized system provides the maximum opportunity for untrue miners to exploit bitcoin mining in an unethical manner  (greedy).

Okay, let us say they may already made some money but is it already enough for ROI?

Their last intention will be to pump bitcoin at a large price to get it back. That is if they are really holding it.

I think it may be hard, but its not impossible. China is a giant with its economic system that affects the whole world in general. even, china has created trade war with US that disturb the stabilization of many countries. Bitcoin is decentralized, so there's no limit for people to have and collect bitcoin while people who invest on bitcoin mostly are from china, they really improved on it. So, I think there must be another 'giant' to stabilize the domination of china to keep bitcoin breath and built, not destroy.

I wouldn't say destroy but the China could effect the market in very bad ways. As far i heard the China have %35 of the bitcoin and %40 of International World trade. So it makes them number 1 in the World. First i would like to ask myself why would they destroy bitcoin while they have it most? And i answer, no, they wouldn't make any crush in the market. Also i am sure that no one can stop this blockchain and cryptocurrency world anymore.

I think it's difficult because most miners at the moment are controlled by China but seeing the fact that many mining projects are large-scale and use unused factories and use environmentally friendly energy it is not impossible that the prospect of the protocol will switch

I think that China can't destroy bitcoin. because the development of bitcoin is always improved so if you want to destroy it it's enough trouble.

China cannot destroy as globally but it can ban it in their country.. Chinese government is the first government who ban bitcoin in their country. Chinese government also passively influence its neighbours country to ban bitcoin like cryptocurrency in their country.. Chinese government ban it because it affects their national currency value at international market and because of this their is a negative effect show on their country economy. Another thing cryptocurrency also affects their country national bank profits and progress.

There is solution, but will be hard. China as we know control bitcoin price almost every year. When they made good news, pump will come and they can make bad news that will make bitcoin dumped. But if people not panic anymore,i think we can solve that problem.

another racist and not well thought out topic

I am highly informed by your clarification of the topic at hand. So with the information you have given here it means that China alone cannot make a decision and it will affect bitcoin for a long time.

only one thing, stop using pools made by China
they control 71% of bitcoin hashrate (according to info from this site: https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/mining/china/)

China holds threatening influence over Bitcoin - perhaps even the ability to attack and ultimately destroy the entire Bitcoin network.

They have the capability and strong motives to perform on variety of attacks against Bitcoin. Even worse, it is already exerting its power over Bitcoin in a myriad of ways.

Research shown that the Bitcoin mining ecosystem has become heavily centralised. The level of centralisation found in the Bitcoin mining ecosystem is the biggest issue for the peer-to-peer digital cash system today. As a technology depends on decentralisation in order to provide a censorship-resistant bearer electronic, any trend towards centralisation should be viewed as problematic. Having so much mining power centralised in any single country exposes the Bitcoin network to a worrying degree of political risk. This can be seen as a threat to china’s economy or a competitor to their own planned digital currency, they could wreak untold havoc in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Cryptocurrency miners have banded to such an extent that over 80 percent of Bitcoin mining is performed by six mining pools, with five of those managed directly by individuals or companies based in China.

Chinese mining pools control more than 70% of the Bitcoin network’s collective hash rate. Not only does China manufacture most of the world’s mining equipment, but massive mining farms are located there to take advantage of extremely cheap electricity prices.

The fact that Chinese mining pools control so much of the Bitcoin ecosystem has direct consequences.

In my opinion, china will have the upper hand in making a huge impact on Bitcoin.

Exactly! I believe that bitcoin can still strongly survive even without China, since it's success is not dependent in one country alone. China can have a big contribution in the success of Bitcoin, it can be one of the richest country in the world but I don't think it can eradicate bitcoin. Bitcoin has already been widely-known and adopted not only in China and it's network has been proven safe and secured.

CHina has become a threat to the crypto market, especially the bitcoin according to the latest reports. China is more like a psychological power the people created for themselves rather than them being actually powerful and having any real major influence in the future of bitcoin. and most of it i believe is because of the drama with bitcoin scaling and the fact that miners weren't accepting the proposals for a long time. so people started demonizing them and focus only on one company in China (bitmain).

The solution to stop that potency is to develop our own potency and only than we can stop china doing so.China threatens every time only because other countries don't have such power, facility and technologies.US has already started imposing tarrifs on china's mining hardware products. These products fall under U.S strict tarrif regime. Now this kind of step will make china's hold in global market weak and encourage people to built there own.

The total control of Bitcoin does not lie in the care of China. Although China holds the largest Bitcoin mining industries it cannot totally destroy Bitcoin. It will cause Bitcoin to fall in value but not destroyed totally. Remember, most of the Bitcoin mining in China moved out of China when the government of China banned Bitcoin.

China can destroy Bitcoin if only if they have all the Bitcoins like 15 million coins. It will literally destroy because they can control everything most especially the market. But for me it is impossible for them to have it all because I think it was all scattered through out the world by investors, miners, enthusiasts and traders. Though China has a lot of investors which makes the market affected when there is a kind of manipulation. But now not anymore as for me chinese investors might sold all their funds to exchanges or friends outside China.

this is good discuss “As the value and economic utility of Bitcoin have grown, so has the incentive to attack it,” the researchers explain. “We singled out China for analysis because they are the most powerful potential adversary to Bitcoin, and we found that they have a variety of salient motives for attacking the system and a number of mature capabilities, both regulatory and technical, to carry out those attacks.”

China may be motivated to weaken or destroy it to make an ideological statement; for example, demonstrating the futility of decentralized control paradigms,” the paper reads. this goal as long as it is highly visible.

even if it is inside of their own country , china cant ban bitcoin because bitcoin is online which means it can still be accesible whenever a user uses a special tool such as proxies , vpn's and other tunneling software . a country can only ban centralized stores or exchange that are related to cryptos .

but it can influence the other country to ban it in their country.

influence ? no i dont really think so .  other country have thier own reasons on why they restrict the use of cryptos but its not because of china banning cryptos .

That's what I think. Over time, China can destroy it if it continues to cause repeated damage. China has a huge influence on the crypto world. It can propel it at good prices, or it can destroy it, but not overnight. Let's hope this will not happen in the coming years.

The China can surely affects the Bitcoin today , since they have a lot of potential to make the price unstable. But surely it will not make the bitcoin be destroyed. Bitcoin has a lot of foundation which makes it pretty strong.

very interesting when we hear that academics from Princeton University and academics from the University of Florida have concluded that China has the potential to threaten stability, internet infrastructure, security and bitcoin development.

in the world of mining, China dominates using ASIC vendors. China controls mining hashrate, so they affect the bitcoin protocol.

Is there a solution to stop that potency  ?

wild opinion and the reason is too pushy, I think there is a lot of debate and shitcoin that wants to excel from bitcoin, but the fact is that until now bitcoin still can't destroy it even though there are many alts with even more sophisticated innovations.

In my opinion, I think China has the capability to damage the bitcoin but not really destroy it totally. As for what I have read, a lot of miners came from this country so if ever China government ordered their people to stop the usage and joining in cryptocurrency especially bitcoin then it will leave a huge damage in bitcoin. Many miners will lose and gone.

I don't think they can because if it is possible for them then they will already did that,so rather than assuming too much we just concentrate on the bitcoin adoption. No one one knows that China is really have more ASIC miners than other even if they have it was owned by the private users so they won't stop because they will lose their capital right.

Not a single state can destroy Bitcoin, including China, despite the fact that more than half of all Bitcoins are currently mined there. In addition, it should be borne in mind that Bitcoin is not mined by government agencies, but by miners, to whom Bitcoin is also not indifferent.
The Chinese government may cause bitcoin temporary damage, but Bitcoin will quickly recover.

we know that digital currencies will change the monopoly of a country's government currency, just as the internet changes the monopolistic practices of the telephone industry.

China always has a big ambition to invest in the crypto world, although not investing in bitcoin, the Chinese government wants to have crypto currencies that are competitive with bitcoin, and they must be able to control it.

The Chinese cannot destroy bitcoin because they are the first country to ban bitcoin back in the year 2016. Mind you, they also dominate the world of mining, ASIC and mining hashrate during that time. However, the Chinese are coward during that time cause the community they ban bitcoin because they bitcoin as a threat to their national currency.

China can make btc network overloaded for 2 weeks only and its all.
This will be if they all switch off all miners, hashrate fall down and other cant find blocks for 2 week then difficulty readjusted and all work in regular mode.

LMAO, is there something wrong about mining? or if a country has the most miners is there something wrong to that? so if China is not among the top mining countries in the world, does the country that has the top mining facilities will be a threat again? ??? LMAO, those academics from those universities think that they know everything in this world and they really believe that they can predict what going to happen. :D :D :D

You're correct, I don't know why these people keep on spreading this kind of speculation that the country named China can destroy Bitcoin and blah blah.
Even if China got the most mining facilities it doesn't mean that China can destroy Bitcoin and anything else similar to that and what's the point of saying that China can destroy Bitcoin ??? Bitcoin is a decentralized electronic cash or what we called Crypto Currency and there is no government or any kind of central bank that controls Bitcoin.
Sometimes I think that these people are only here to spread FUD LOL. :D

China has a low electricity cost so many miners are there, especially because of Bitmain, but I don't see the problem. First of all I think that soon someone else will start a serious completion with Bitmain, that has a monopoly at the moment, and then if the authorities decide to shut down those factories BTC's difficulty will adjust automatically in a few weeks.

so they are spent billions of dollar manufacturing and  building bitcoin farm on a large scale to destroy the bitcoin and to lose peoples trust all over the world on bitcoin and the people then transfer their trust to other crypto like litecoin etc? where is the logic behind these? and then after btc destroyed china then will spend another billions of dollar to destroy the next crypto that people put trust on and so on and so on. LOL! stop this non sense! if btc destroyed we still have thounsands of crypto out there. what the heck!
i bet chinese wont do that thwy love crypto, theyr not building something just to destroy when they spend billions on it, this is just a fud!

I do not think it would be possible. However, if so, then there is some logic.

If the Chinese could miraculously beat Bitcoin, they would prove their strength and superiority over others that no one else has the power to do it.

And hence ?

- They create their own new currency with their work and resources.
- They maintain their hegemen position so that no one else will harm them.
- They have their own monopoly on the currency and if it will be accepted, it will be called the "new bitcoin"

Little probable? Perhaps. But, however, probably.
So there is also some logic in this too ...

You talking about the effect, but what OP is aking destroying the bitcoin lol

No one that in their right mind will believe this hallucinations, yes china has big influence about the value of not only bitcoin, but all the cryptocurrency and it contributes large percentage but this is not enough to bring bitcoin dead.before china theres asia whos this country is only part, and majority of asia has trust in cryptocurrency, added is all the larger continent universal,so expecting bitcoin down is close to hallucinating

No country in the world has the power to destroy bitcoin, let's be clear on that one first. China can only impose the law on the Chinese bitcoin miners or ASIC chip manufacturers that perhaps might affect the bitcoin network. And in time, the network will recover because sooner or later the Chinese miners will move to other countries in order to protect their own businesses.

Things are changing in the market, even though China is the largest holder of BTC, and the number of miners from their country is also high, but the market is changing, yeah the market can definitely take a hit by the action. And it will be a serious one if taken right now.

I agree that the authorities of the country have enough tools to seriously affect bitcoin. This is a large concentration of miners and computing power. So, as more than 80% of mining farms belong to six pools, five of which are managed by citizens or companies in China.
But miners are not necessarily located in the same country as the pools. There are many miners where there is cheap electricity and loose legislation. If a pool is involved in a “bitcoin attack,” the miners will simply switch to another pool, not Chinese.

With the aim of wanting to take big profits. By taking advantage of falling prices. and sell it at high prices. Of course after the negative issue is removed.

definetly in this situation my,we cannot stop that potency of china to dominate in there own crypto mining, because they have there own law and rules being one of the sovereign country, otherwise china want to dominate there own cryptocurrency system, thats why they neglect the foreign ICO  going inside to there own crypto economy, therefore in my own perception its better that we not include the china,as part of the digital investment system technology.

China cannot destroy bitcoin. It was already established and many countries now uses bitcoin. China has a great impact in terms of the value and volume of bitcoin but not into the extent that they can destroy it.

Looks like China will not do that, China will only play with bitcoin, they are easier to make bitcoin prices rise and fall. I will not worry about this, because it is a risk too, just be patient and hope China is friendly with bitcoin.

Whenever you have a large share in something, you can always use that dominant position to threaten the system. However, I don't think that China or any other large player would destroy Bitcoin because employing a huge level of resources to destroy the whole system would amount to the attempt of suicide. Considering the current global situation, decreasing GDP of China and trade war is something that they would like to focus instead of destroying Bitcoin.

it is very difficult to change things like this because the nature of bitcoin is decentralized, there is no regulation to limit someone to mine bitcoin, most of the supply of bitcoin circulation has been obtained by miners in China,
Its actually not been clear that If china can destroy bitcoin or not. However bitcoin is that platform which are decentralized . Not only china are become handling the project but also whole over the world are coming to join .So that its not to be possible by china to destroy the bitcoin they only can resist.

I don't think so. Why should China want bitcoin to be destroyed? Even of they can mine many bitcoins, they won't try to decrease the price. I am sure they want the price to rise.
Also, there are many whales in the market, own many bitcoins. They are holding much more bitcoins than miners have. Those whales can affect the market more than the miners in China.

China is among the largest crypto users as well as mining that is there, so it would not be possible that China would destroy bitcoin.

China wont do that its because if btc died also their own coin will be dead too because no people will be interested in crypto currency anymore, bitcoin is the first coin that they interested thats why many people invested in crypto also this is the basis of the value of altcoin and we can called mother coin.

Yes, China has the power to destroy bitcoins . I think, there are no solution right now but who knows someone will come up to combat this. Think positive...
You seems not to understand that it not the matter of certain country controls mining hashrate or dominate the ASIC vendors because bitcoin was controlled by the community and most of the hashrate, ASIC and mining I own by private investors. Meanwhile, they have tried to destroy bitcoin in the past, they failed and was hurt for not holding bitcoin when it reaches the last ATH.
I'm somehow disappointed for your statement as a Senior account holder.
Do you think can chinese government design the legislation that would enable them to take away located in the China mining farms  from their owners? And therefore grab control of majority of the hash rate .
I dont know if the Chinese government planned a legislation to take away mining farms from their owner but I'm sure of is the reason why they banned bitcoin then which was because of bitcoin gaining more investors and traders there. Besides, people choose to use bitcoin than their national currency and all this leads to Yen devaluation and the Chinese government sees bitcoin as a threat to their national currency.

I agree. Chinese people has a huge impact to the bitcoin. The country itself is where you can find majority of the miners, therefore it will really have a huge impact. We can also predict that it might have a bigger impact especially that as of this moment majority of the users are panic sellers.

You are right, even crypto enthusiasts in China is very large, so, when the Chinese government banned crypto, the Chinese government cannot fight public demand.

and finally, the Chinese government has plans to create crypto, and they think to create crypto that has competitive values.

so, China will ban bitcoin and other cryptos, and control the crypto they create.

do you know that China controls the crypto trade until today?

when 50% of the crypto market trading is controlled by them, then this is a sign of crypto destruction.

China can control the volatility of bitcoin, they can make bitcoin die, and if bitcoin dies, the majority of other altcoins will be worthless.

do you know who made the value of bitcoin reach $ 20K at the end of 2017?

although there are other factors that make bitcoin reach $ 20K, but China more dominates.

The only way out I can see is to create a more powerful (international?) union of miners and thus counterbalance the might of China. Such countries like India and Canada, as well the West European region with relatively low fees for electricity could be the core of such an "organization". And again, there should be some international regulation pertaining mining that is conducted on an industrial scale.

I hope this law of property in China, will bring more moves from them soon.. If we could get Chinese people back on the markets for trading, this would be huuuuge marketcap boost.. could be bullrun capitalist! Now they are buying some with OTC option I guess.. Chinese money flow would rise up CMC a lot

I realize China has the power to give big impacts in crypto, including bitcoin. However, the power doesn't come from China only. There are many countries have power to control bitcoin. So, bitcoin won't be destroyed by China as a single power.

You also have to realized that they have control of mining so they can really create a a big impact to the market, but to destroy bitcoin? I don't think they can single handedly do it. They might impact the price in short term but bitcoin is global so its going to continue specially if the other part of the globe will just pick up and lessen China's monopoly of mining.

China has the largest population and once was the number one country with the largest Bitcoin mining industries. China has great influence on Bitcoin and the entire crypto market but the total survival of Bitcoin on the market cannot be entirely dependent on China. Although China can cause a great fall in Bitcoin price, it cannot totally destroy Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has gained much roots and support from investors across the globe. Bitcoin would have died when China banned Bitcoin.

China is quite a self-sufficient country in terms of the economy and their participation in the life of bitcoin plays a very important role. More than half of bitcoin wallet holders are in this beautiful country. Specific proposals at the moment do not see ( obviously) and therefore I propose to expect a change of events and keep things in focus. Write about changes.

I don't think it can totally destroy the bitcoin rather it can only damage it. As what you have stated, most miners comes from the China so if ever they are to pull out then I guess the mining would be weak. By that we can conclude that the China has the capability to damage the bitcoin in their own way but not really destroy it.

For as long there is no actual physical damage made to bitcoin, I do think not a nation will be able to destroy it. Bitcoin in its real state is just a piece of code. It doesn't even have the value. And what gives it life are the demands for its usage and the importance it serves to the daily lives of the people. So what will happen if china quits using bitcoin? It will still be the bitcoin we know and will remain as it is for as long as anybody will still use it. The price may go down but their will still be bitcoin.

Bitcoin cannot be destroyed by China even if they have 75% of bitcoin miner. They can only slow down its growth as other countries are using and mining Bitcoin too. The growth rate will only be slower. Remember, Bitcoin is decentralized and cannot be control and anyone

China is very powerful country, and consist of huge population. If all the miners there will agreed to destroy bitcoin for sure it can happen, and they will just support the coin that China's made if ever. There are some possibilities for this one but I hope it will not happen in the next 10 years.
Some Chinese miners had moved to Russia as this is a good indication that bitcoin will survive even without the support of China. I just hope that China will reconsider to support crypto to boost more their economy.

China is also the main reason of this dump. Imagine most of the miners are there and the also need to constantly sell their bitcoins to sustain their operations. Though I don't believe they can single-handedly destroy bitcoin. As we can see last year, they tightened up regulations in ico (and actually went far as to ban it) but after it happened, it didn't significantly affect the ico market then.

Yes there is a solution. We need to convince entrepreneurs to get involved in minning industry. Minning revenue should not be monopolized by one group or country, market will always find way to get balance condition. I hope most of people here aren't only concern in bounty campaign but also learn how to mine bitcoin and other coin or even create their own blockchain to ease their job.

We can stop that potency that you said, I am sure mining industry will spread evenly.

The Chinese government continues to implement measures to ban digital money transactions, tighter control of online platforms and mobile applications for this transaction.
In addition to the ban one-currency trading last year, the next target of the Chinese government is the domestic platform that allows centralized trading without clearly delineating the difference between these platforms.
Chinese regulators also target individuals and companies that provide clearing services, arrange and market. Small-scale (P2P) transactions are not affected.
Bitcoin plunged 1.2 percent to $ 13,580 in London's midday trading session, according to Bloomberg.

In the face of some people trying to deal with the ban in China, others in countries such as Japan and Hong Kong are profiting from Bitcoin and expose Dimon's plot. All have shown that Bitcoin is growing and is not susceptible to market manipulation. The government's ban and repression can make things more difficult for users. Bitcoin in China but doesn't mean that they can't overcome this hard. To improve the situation, many people affected by the ban have switched to using LocalBitcoins and even stopped using a state-controlled messaging app called WeChat.

that can not be, because for me there are no countries that can break a bitcoin. I heard again last year that china sometimes becomes banned by bitcoin, so for me all the nations are not perfect and hopefully it will not destroy a blockchain technology in the country nor affect the value.

of course they cannot destroy bitcoin but keep in mind that china is a huge country and alot of chinese were also known to be involved in cryptocurrency . so if ever they decided to ban bitcoin or cryptos in there country , we can also expect that the price can fall of sharply .

I think China has already put to an end on bitcoin and crypto adaption since last year. As a result, bitcoin has obviously collapsed but bitcoin answers back with a skyrocketing progress of its market cap and price until last December 2017.

no they werent . its not bitcoin that banned in china but it is other exchanges and some illegal ico's . i dont think china could ban  mainstream cryptos such as btc because thier business will totally be affected  . price fall isnt also because of china but it is because of other reasons like for example whales manipulation .

Big countries and developing countries like China might be able to destroy the price of bitcoin but I am sure that China will not destroy Bitcoin because China sees a good opportunity from Bitcoin.
- With a large number of miners and huge whales, destroy the price of bitcoin is a very easy thing for them but as you say, they will not destroy when bitcoin is still a place to bring a lot of profit to them, this is a gold mine, they will not easily give up and destroy such large gold mine. In addition, although they are a very powerful country with large economic resources but that does not mean they can dominate and do everything they like, miners and whales in other countries will not allow China to do anything to harm bitcoin, China also can not resist the fury of these forces

I don't think they can destroy Bitcoin, because blockchain technology now is here to stay, with or without Bitcoin, but they have a plethora of altcoins now that they are backing up and pushing out, so they will always promote their own and as long as they are making a shit ton of money from Bitcoin and controlling one big aspect of it, that's the mining, they will help to keep the feast running and the table full of goodies. They know very well how to make money form everything. Bitcoin also has caused an economic war, just like the trade war and people will want to have power over it as much as possible in the economic battles for world dominance.

Perhaps, this is only a FUD to create the relevance of china's participation. They were thinking that a great nation China should be given a good treatment for bitcoin which will relatively Chinese government should not likely to. be like this. Well that is only a guess but if there are some reason for this and whatever it is it could not affect bitcoin.

Having a look at the influence of China over Bitcoin’s infrastructure, the Chinese government has potentially the ability to destroy Bitcoin.
Currently over 80% of Bitcoin mining is performed by six mining pools, and five of those six pools are managed by individuals or organisations located in China.
Four different ways how the Chinese Gov can influence Bitcoin: disrupt competing miners, undermine consensus and destabilise Bitcoin, de-anonymisation, and censorship. and We know how China is heavily controlled by the government.
So potentially Yes, BUT would they do that?

51% is what we are really talking about, right?

China cannot destroy Bitcoin but it could damage is, we suppose. But why would they anyway? Surely this would be like killing the Golden Goose...

In time with the difficulty rise, it will be difficult for some to continue mining if they pay for electricity, may mining rigs on that note run on Hydropower and reusable resources so this is of little concern.

No one really knows the future of Bitcoin or the Altcoins, perhaps China may switch to other Cryptos if BTC mining becomes unprofitable?

For the moment, there is no way for the U.S to accept the dominance of China as a majority holder of this currency. Pushing an alternative solution via DLT might be a logic route or even just use brute force to shut down any usage by pushing new legislation and blockage.

I think that's wrong, Miners spread throughout the world so if china stop for mining, doesnt matter. And about bitcoin like miner bitcoin also spread throughout the world, so cant. Cina cant do that. And we already know bitcoin is decentalized, no one can control it. So about news, or statement about that don't be provoked

China is dubbed a country full of ambitions, they will not miss the opportunity to help them become world hegemony, because bitcoin is a huge advantage if they develop it.

very interesting when we hear that academics from Princeton University and academics from the University of Florida have concluded that China has the potential to threaten stability, internet infrastructure, security and bitcoin development.

I agree on that China cannot really destroy bitcoin. That e are so many country that is now still believing in bitcoin and i think China is only one of many country that used bitcoin, so even if China banned bitcoin. I think bitcoin will not die at all maybe it can give a huge down as effect of banning but it can't really make or drag bitcoin down.

depending on our perceptions, the problem is we always see the worst possibility of an opportunity and innovation that exists, that is what prevents us from moving forward, while china? This does not prevent them from continuing to develop it.

it would be better if we see good potential that can be developed and eliminate pessimism

if we think more clearly again maybe China wants to be a competitor of Bitcoin itself by launching technology technology and may be threatening to stabilize prices

Chinese blanket ban on Cryptocurrencies has been somewhat of strategic even as companies such as Bitmain have become some of the biggest crypto currencies in the world. China simply plans to harness the crypto wave in their favor and in full control of their central bank. In China, Tech companies and and blockchain itself are more shaped by the will of the government and than maybe in any other country. China's central bank has a more sophisticated understanding of how to leverage centralized blockchain than many other countries.

China once banned bitcoin, and cryptocurrency, and of course that affected the price. well, but I don't think it will destroy bitcoin. we know that bitcoin users are not only in China, but throughout the world.
